How does the AI 'notice' you? Does it just sense you within a certain range?
spawns in a shopping district, ransacks and sleeps in a: medical store, gun store, and a grocery store. goes to take a break comes back to find i got a screensaver, logs in, NET FRAMEWORK ERROR LOLOLOLOLOLOL, white box with red x. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Finally died on my 24-day run. With two CHAR armor suits and several shotguns, pistols, and medkits in the team, it wasn't the zombies that finally did it, but starvation. Food's a royal pain to find after a while, never mind enough for four people. :saddowns: Think I hit a bug in the post-mortem. I pressed Enter to read some more since it only showed the first 3 days' major events. Only showed an empty page when I did, and I had to ALT+CTRL+DEL so I could restart. Anybody else get that? No, but once it's below the white line, your base speed (tiles moved per turn) goes from 1.0 to .66, that of a typical zombie. The next and last level of sleep deprivation sends that to .5, so you'll have to run and tire yourself just to barely outpace a shambler. Almost got me killed when two of my early companions managed to die to a single zombie.
I GET THAT ALL THE TIME! It's when ever you survive for more than like 10 days I think.
When I go to install it tells me it's missing 'Microsoft.DirectX.AudioVideo playback version (whatever) be installed in the GAC.' :<
i got myself a good setup in a grocery store. not much food but plenty of racks to cade with, i should last a while before i have to move. also A nation guard squad has arrived! repeat a hundred times for the next 10 minutes EDIT oh shit someone or something is breaking my cade :( EDIT either zombies can have ADD, CHAR CORP is a bunch of tards, or the national guard was pulling some pranks... i will (hopefully) never know. EDIT Had to barricade my food supply off, the npcs in the grocery store are trying to mad grab at it, damnit guys, you are NPCS! YOUR LIFE ONLY MATTERS TO ME IF YOU HAVE A GUN! EDIT THEY ARE BACK AGAIN BREAKIN MAH CADE!
I can't start a new game, wh... It just goes to a red "x".
So do I. Can anyone help us?
Enough editing that post, but seriously... why in the hell are some people disturbing my cade, leaving for 30 minutes, then go back to fucking my shelf barricade? EDIT they appear to be picking it appart row by row... what the hell is going on over there? quick question, is this zombie or human behavior? i heard about humans picking barricades apart sometimes to get in to places.
How does the AI 'notice' you? Does it just sense you within a certain range?
Yes. Different enemies can sense your blood (I imagine) from a certain distance. Not only that, but if they SEE you, they'll hunt you down until they lose you, or find another civilian along the way. That said, I don't think they can sense you through buildings.
I took over an area of a shopping district consisting of 2 grocery stores and a hardware store. There were 3 people hiding in one of the grocery stores and 5 in the hardware store. I used shelves to block off the roads and effectively isolated myself from the rest of the district. Zombies will usually just treat the shelves as wall and rarely bother to smash them. So on Day 7 I find myself with a small community of 9 survivors. We have plenty of groceries to last us and we're armed to the teeth if zombies break in. For the first few days we just make the barricades stronger, but eventually our food starts to run low so we decide it's time to venture out into the rest of the district. It was awesome. I had 3 followers, all armed very well. We started sweeping through every house and store there was, leaving a trail of dead zombies behind us. Now it's Day 18 and the shopping district is under control, you can roam the streets freely and you'll find many survivors doing the same. I'm taking a party with me to the residential district to try and find more survivors. This game is so god damn addicting, even though it's a bit rough around the edges.

em ddA
Lol why is it taking some of you so long for district simulation? Mine takes 10 sec max.
Some people (like me) probably put it all to max, or it could be other things.
guys, we are doing a group circlejerk of rogue survivor, add me on steam and i will invite you to group chat.
How the hell do we even move? [editline]11:05PM[/editline] Oh numpad. [editline]11:06PM[/editline] Died within first minute, cool.
What the fuck my AVG detected a virus in it and proceeded to delete every file related to it...
The death of Walter Norton: He spent the whole game going from place to place, barricading off sections of districts with store shelves and boards, and bringing survivors to them. He always left these little "communities" with a decent amount of food and weapons, then opened their front gate and left. He went around doing this for almost 2 months, then he began to go back and visit the communities (marked with spray paint.) The first community he set up was still going, and the entire area was populated with many more survivors than he had left it with. Unfortunately, the next community he revisited was overrun with zombies, and he saw many zombified survivors that he had helped survive. In a fit of rage he began gunning down as many zombies as he had bullets for. After going through 3 rifles, 2 handguns and 2 shotguns, he pulled out his shovel and started running. Midnight struck, and suddenly he found himself in the middle of a road with tons of zombies coming from both sides. Accepting his fate, he held his ground and fought till the last breath as the zombies swarmed him from all sides. Funny thing is he actually killed another 6 or 7 zombies before he finally got taken down.
Fuck I barracaded a grocery store all up and had about 30 bags of groceries and layers of shelves blocking the entrances. I decided to go outside to scavenge for more guns and got swarmed :(
This is just dumb. There doesn't seem to be much more depth than what I'm getting, and all that's happening is I'm getting mobbed by maybe 1 or 2 zombies, and I'm either pathetic with a melee weapon or stuck with a crappy shotgun or pistol... What's the appeal in this? [editline]12:31AM[/editline] Seriously, all this is is just running around, slowly dying, until you get killed by a couple zombies. Where's the fun? One zombies just took out half my health. Guns only carry 7 or whatever ammo? What the fuck, they don't even do that much damage.
What's the appeal in this?
For me, it's the same thing I've found fun in other roguelikes. You start off a bit clueless and explore a lot, figuring how things interact with each other. As you die and learn from your mistakes, you find new ways to be more efficient at surviving, killing the other bastard(s) before they kill you, and reaching whatever goal there may be. So yeah, steep learning curve, exploration/experimentation, challenging combat, randomly generated environments, and in some cases, sandbox elements. Take your pick, I guess. 'Course, every one is a little different. DoomRL might be more your speed if you're not squeamish about ASCII graphics. It's far more developed and fast-paced than this one. Makes great use of audio (including music) too, something I don't see a lot of in roguelikes. There's also Spelunky, which is played as an old-school platformer instead, and might apply better to you. I could go on, really. :v:
Lol why is it taking some of you so long for district simulation? Mine takes 10 sec max.
I have higher settings and how many turns have you had before you went to a new area? I've got 16,000 turns to simulate, taking about 18 minutes. [editline]06:24PM[/editline]
This is just dumb.
Lol why is it taking some of you so long for district simulation? Mine takes 10 sec max.
Well, some of us do have the city size settings maxed. Even on my i7, district, simulation takes over 1 minute. [editline]10:37AM[/editline] Compared to a Q6600, that uses 4-5 minutes. [editline]10:41AM[/editline] Can't wait to simulate 25K+ turns with the Q6600 i'm currently on.
Hello again. For those who can't play the game at all, try downloading the directx runtime: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en I thought the installer would do it for you, but apparently not  Remember to uninstall the game first. If it still doesn't work, please mail me with your config: - laptop or desktop? - desktop resolution? - gfx card model? - which version of windows? Sorry for the bugs, interface and stupid followers, next version will improve all that! Thanks and keep dying with a smile! :yohoho:
This game really fucking hates me. Basic rundown on last play: When I started I was the only one in a building. It contained a shotgun and 2 pistols in it along with some groceries. So right now I am thinking "Fuck yea! Time to kick some zombie ass!". Then I walk out of the building,I get shot by a National Guard, and I fucking die. One fucking shot and absolutely no chance to defend myself at time. Needless to say I raged, I raged so fucking hard. The best survival time I have got in this game was about 3 days. I died of starvation that play-through.
Day 54: Just found a BIG grocery store, and for some reaseon there was no zombies in there, and there was no humans robbing it. Aka, i can probably live here for another 20 days. [editline]11:29AM[/editline]
Thanks and keep dying with a smile! :yohoho:
Thanks for making such an awesome game! :v: [editline]11:37AM[/editline] Well, i ran out of food on day 60, expected it to last longer... :saddowns:
