Good article on the gameplay demo we weren't able to see.. http://www.starwarsmmo.net/news/star-wars-the-old-republic-e3-demo-preview/ Some cool highlights:
A Mass Effect dialogue wheel. We chose an option and lo and behold, our character was fully voiced (by the wonderful Steven Blum, well known for his portrayal of characters like Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop) with his own expressions and so on. This continued for a few more lines before we were sent off to do our duty.

As was shown, the Bounty Hunter was capable of firing his gun while moving in any direction.
It would appear that combat is not "locked" as more traditional [MMO]RPGs are (like NWN)
The Smuggler is capable of using cover. How this works is that when you walk up to certain objects like corners, trees, boxes, and so on a little green silhouette will appear. You click on this silhouette and he will take the position, hiding by either crouching or standing depending and firing at his opponent. This system was pretty fluid in the alpha version we watched.
Cover system seems to have a good idea behind it.. I hope it is implemented well. Reminds me of Gears of War. The Co-Op part near the end of the article is pretty sweet too, but you'll have to read that on your own and wasn't boba's armor jango's armor? it was still a mandalorian type armor..
so they didn't learn anything from SWG and decided to make jedi playable right off the bat again -_-
Think about how crazy and awesome the fight's are going to be! Hundreds of Jedi in a huge epic battle like in the trailer.
That will never happen and i guarantee it
I still do not see the problem with large amounts of Jedi and Sith in this time period
I still do not see the problem with large amounts of Jedi and Sith in this time period
The problem isn't with the story, it's with the gameplay.
The problem isn't with the story, it's with the gameplay.
It would make less sense if there was only a few select people as Jedi.
Jedi/Sith will probably end up as tanks, so they will be in some type of demand for groups.
The problem isn't with the story, it's with the gameplay.
You know what kills Jedi and Sith extremely fast? Normal based projectile weapons, like bullets. Even if they hit the bullet with their saber, they'll still be hit with super-heated metal-based plasma going the same speed as the bullet.
Yeah, but the projectile is lasers bullets, which the lightsabers deflect. The only class that should have a one kill bullet is a sniper, like a scout.
Why not just use shotguns?

Everything I've seen is light based. Clearly a long time ago, despite having hover cars, hovering cities, space travel, mind tricks, and more, whoever was in charge of developing weapons was stupid as fuck. I guess it's the same hole as in Harry Potter, that was at least set in the real world where bullet-weaponry existed (Since the book mentions playstation, etc). Sure, you can deflect my spells with your wand. It harkens back to the question: Why not shoot Voldemort?
I have mixed feeling about the Jedi/Sith playability. On one hand, giving out force-sensitive characters randomly would be a complete bitch (as we learned from the TF2 sniper/spy update). On the other hand, I bet every 12 year old kid and his mum will want to play as a jedi.

Actually, if I remember correctly there are also some specially purposed Anti-Jedi/Sith weapons on the Black Market which are Slugthrowers.
Pretty sure an automatic gun would be less expensive to make than a lightsaber.
Why not just use shotguns?
Good fuckin' question.
Maybe since bullets are physical the Jedi/Sith can just force push them away? I'm guessing.
As hinted in KOTOR 2, Revan left to fight the true sith. By true sith I mean the actual race of sith, not the shiny armored posers. I will be a Jedi most likely. I wish you could have a blaster pistol in 1 hand, and a lightsaber in 1 hand. However this is not WH40K, so this will never happen.
The real SITH THE RACE IS DEAD he went to find the TRUE sith Empire
You're not a true bro unless you play stormtrooper or bounty hunter.
That trailer was fucking sexy, probably better than the star wars movies ep 1-3. If the game is anywhere near this good I'll buy it.
Maybe since bullets are physical the Jedi/Sith can just force push them away? I'm guessing.
There are stories where Jedi/Sith can use the force to push blaster bolts out of the way, so bullets would be treated like blasters. Do remember also that unlike blasters slugthrowers can be silenced, producing no sound nor light upon being fired. A modern sniper would probably have no trouble taking down a Jedi/Sith who doesn't know they are there, they would assume (incorrectly) that the projectile heading for them would be stopped by their saber.
will this game be turned based like KOTOR 1 & 2?
needs moar gameplay.
will this game be turned based like KOTOR 1 & 2?
Nope.
Looks good imo. Considering buying
Definitely getting. Hopefully it's SWG 10x better and they make a spy/rogue type class.
Another question, is it auto-attack or action-based?
That trailer is fucking amazing.
SMUGGLER CLASS INFO ADDED http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/smuggler
Some interesting screenshots: http://www.swtor-fr.com/screen-2442.html http://www.swtor-fr.com/screen-2786.html (multiple races, perhaps?) Anyways, the site has a lot more..
Definitely getting. SWG had no classes, they had professions, which were like talent trees, you could customize your character, want to be a doctor and be able to snipe people? You could, want to make delicious snacks and foods as a chef, and kick ass in melee combat as a fencer? You could. Anyways enough about SWG this game will be good, but never SWG good.
