but isn't the point not faking it?
The physics aren't being faked here in theory, just the source of the impact. It would be tough to wrap full-on ballistics into this system (not to mention that most FPS games use hitscan anyway, so it would be nice just for the sake of compatibility), but having the car 'pretend' a bullet just hit it would still enact real soft-body physics based on the theoretical force/angle/bullet size. The bullet decal would on only do the 'torn metal' effect but also add a fake hole as I'd imagine that sort of destruction would be impossible without voxels.

I really do hate people like you.
This is cool and all but why?
Why not?
Why have physics in a game? Why have realistic textures in a game? Why have complex animations?
Heck, why have the game in the first place?
If it's a middleware then will it be free?
Beautiful, but make sure some pieces don't stretch across the map like it always did in Rigs of Rods. Subscribed by the way.

what is fun
Awesome work, i can't wait to see this further develop. I played RoR back when it was rather new a lot, in 2006. I'm going to subscribe to the youtube channel.

Where is that truck model from?
When I first saw these physics my jaw literally just dropped
Rigs of Rods since 0.31a <3.
P. sure I played RoR when it was in the .20s, if not earlier.

I would assume they made all of it, considering all the interior parts that would never get made if they weren't shooting off the engine block at mach 2.

Really? 0.31a was out about five years ago.
Freaking Burnout worthy.
Flatout UC on CryEn3 with this beauty, anyone?

How easy would it be to port RoR vehicles to this?
Also, I'd like to add that I'm finding hard to stay sane and not just shower you with audulation, because you've just shown me a working implementation of something I've dreamed of since I first played Destruction Derby for the PS1. Have a heart <3

It'd be a welcome change from bouncing off the wall to then keep moving in a straight line at 100kph. Coupled with realistic handling physics it'd actually make you think about your driving, and this is only a good thing. If car chases in games just handled themselves properly they wouldnt have to resort to overly stupid things like earning boost to remain entertaining.
Fuck your boost. Fuck it dead. This is a real car chase.

The only thing that I do in Mafia 2 is do the little freeroam car chase that you can download. Just because the car chases actually feel like car chases. Cars have weight, the police aren't incompetent, etc.
They have released a second video:

Website updated with screenshots.
Do want.
Some of those scenes reminded me of police chases.
