I woulndn't say lazy at all...
they are actually putting a lot of extra work into this style of mapping... its not just the textures... its room layout, light sources and a lot more
just most people only ever notice the textures... and they are doing it because this is supposed to be a direct sequel to portal
and it does look cool :)
