Or you have the common sense to run it using Dosbox.
I call people that can use Dosbox talented programmers.
THANK YOU :ccb:
I'm guesing it worked? :buddy:
Oh fuck, nostalgia. I loved this game so much.
This.

[editline]08:54PM[/editline] Magic carpet 2...
Magic Carpet 2 was rushed to completion by EA in order to make the holiday season and the release shipped with many bugs including a fatal bug that often caused the game to crash. This fallout prompted Bullfrog designer Peter Molyneux to part ways with EA.
Oh fuck EA.
Ah, I used to love this game. Thanks for reminding me to dig it out!
I wish Dungeon Keeper 2 would work with XP. It just will show a black main menu and black screen of gameplay. I've tried turning off acceleration but to no luck, it just turns it's self back on!
oh and for dk2 on vista or xp, youll have to go in the registry. somewhere under software/bullfrog youll find DK2, then find the video tab and change the ENGINE value, i don't remember what it is by default, but i know one is openGL and the other is D3D, and another thing is i don't remember if the vaues for it is 0 and 1 or 1 and 2 but what ever it is set to, change it to one of the other and it should change renderer and work, sorry for not being presise but i do not remember the path clearly. this will cost you all 10$ each.
Could you be a bit thorough? Also, by registry, you mean the Registry Editor, right? If it is, I'm still lost.

I.E if the value is 0 you will definetly have to change it to 1. this will change the rendering engine to another and should work. i'm not sure but it should be some thing like: 0=D3D 1=opengl (it may be 1=d3d 2=opengl, i'm not sure) this should work, it did for me. you can also play the game at higher resolutions, but not all resolutions are compatible: 1. Start REGEDIT 2. Find the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Bullfrog Productions Ltd\Dungeon Keeper II\Configuration\Video 3. Expand the Video option 4. Double click on the option Res 1024*768 Enabled, then in the value data box replace the 0 with a 1. 5. Do the same for the other Res XXXX*XXXX Enabled keys, then exit REGEDIT. lemme know if it works for you.
It was set at 2 - I tried setting it to both 0 and 1 to no avail.
this puzzles me, do you have the Directx SDK?
this puzzles me, do you have the Directx SDK?
No Should I?
i play DK 2 in LAN, sometimes online, but lag's ...
No Should I?
download direct x sdk and install it. when done start directx controlpanel 32-bit and go to the d3d tab and uncheck hardware acceleration. fiddle a bit with the "engine" string in the registry and let me know once again if in works, if it doesn't i'll keep looking.

This was one of my favourite games ever. Peter Monologue is awesome.
Did all of that, still no luck.
have you tried patching it to 1.7?
I found my old DK disk. An ancient Kodak CDRW. With the letters DK scrawled upon it in black texta. I brushed the dust off, and out of curiosity put it into my drive, since I had no idea what it was. Installed it, put compatibility mode on after several crashes, and played for 4 hours straight. Awesome game.
have you tried patching it to 1.7?
Yes.
If you didn't buy this game when it came out, you can still buy this game used, and sometimes new, but as far as I know, only on the interwebs. Otherwise... :pirate: ...it still requires DosBox or similar programs to run it, however.
I have it and it works on my XP PC fine. No patches or anything. Only mild problem is the scroll speed when not in game. ((Woah, when the thread loadxed after me posting it I'd already got 5 dumbs.))
Just found my disk to number 2 : does it require a cd key? [editline]08:21PM[/editline] you don't
Bomimo, is there anything else I could try, or am I fucked? I've tried googling this issue but I always come up with the same fix - "turn off hardware acceleration," and that'd be fine and dandy, but I cannot alter the hardware acceleration settings at all.

Then your game should work when you either load a new map or go to the Main Menu! Make sure you make the compatiblity Win 98 or XP!!!" does that work?

it worked!!!? OH TRIUMF! have fun:)
Now I want to go dig it out the original as well as deeper dungeons.
it worked!!!? OH TRIUMF! have fun:)
Yeah, except after playing, I find that I crash after I've researched any more than two spells. Once "possess" gets researched, clicking on the research tab or hitting escape results with a crash-to-desktop. :aaa:
