try removing -32biteverything.
From where?
How do I play against a computer in Dungeon Keeper 1, I get everything set but the map won't start and I can't choose a map.
Is it even possible to play skirmish? Haven't played the game in years.

There's a way to play against computer opponents in multiplayer, but I forgot how to do it. I believe you have to edit some confiugration settings for that. But if you want to fight computer opponents, why not try the Deeper Dungeons?
Bought a double pack with Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 and neither worked on my Vista machine. I should probably try them on a XP computer some time.

from the shortcut
Absolutely fantastic game.
from the shortcut
It wasn't in the shortcut
do this:
"If you have an Black Image tear in game for the shortcut add this line "-softwarefilter" behind the shortcut (it should look like this):
"C:\...\Dungeon Keeper II\DKII.exe" -softwarefilter
After that when in game make sure you go to your graphic options and un-tick hardware acceleration! Then your game should work when you either load a new map or go to the Main Menu! Make sure you make the compatiblity Win 98 or XP!!!"
or this:
"If you have an Black Image tear in game for the shortcut add this line "-32biteverything" behind the shortcut (it should look like this):
"C:\...\Dungeon Keeper II\DKII.exe" -32biteverything
After that when in game make sure you go to your graphic options and un-tick hardware acceleration! Then your game should work when you either load a new map or go to the Main Menu! Make sure you make the compatiblity Win 98 or XP!!!"
i hope this works

ok, i am not a tech guy at all and i am looking for help. I tried this but was "greeted" by a message stating
"The folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bullfrog\Dungeon Keeper 2\DKII.exe" -softwarefilter -32biteverything specified in the Location & start in box is not valid. Make sure that the folder exists and the path is correct."
Oh the joys of Vista. I am really trying to get used to it. Any idea how i fix that error? I love this game and would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

i believe you added the line in the wrong of the two boxes, try the other.
alternately change renderer via Registry (guide on page 1 or 2) and google abit too.

I got it to accept the tag "-softwarefilter -32biteverything" and flipped off the hardware accel but it still tears. Now the game won't load at all when I try to start it up. It tells me that the DKIIICD has stopped working. Any idea why it's doing that? Again, i appreciate all of you help with this.
well IDK about the ICD error in DK2 but in Theme Park World by the same company that meant that you would need to reinstall, i'd do that and then attempt the change of rendere sescribed earlier in the thread and on google, that would allow hardware accelleration too.
