Those captions OP put at the bottom of the pictures are horribly cliché please remove them. ODST looks to be a better Halo.
Removed just for you, now give me hearts! :clint: [editline]10:26AM[/editline]
A few more questions about Reach and the new mjolnr armor (been a while since I read the books) 1) Reach was the central training hub for all Spartans, excluding the SIIIs correct? 2) Spartan ones were considered to be the ODSTs, or were the ODSTs just a branch in and of themselves? 3) Also this is for clarification, but was the exoskeleton armor that John 117 went up against in a training exercise (the really big bulky ones that had twin mounted machine guns that fired dummy rounds) a prototype of S1 armor, or was it the S1 armor itself?
1) I'm not sure because when you say SIIIs are those the ones with stealth armor from Ghosts of Onix? Because if so then the answer is yes. 2) ODST's were there own thing all along. Think of them as the US airborn of the future, and think of Spartans as Sam Fisher with energy shields, and much less quite, and they kill... ok forget the Sam Fisher analogy lol. 3) It was the Mjolnir I the (SI was a program to create super human soldiers, the armor came afterward) armor was an incredibly bulky mech that needed to be powered by a wireless fusion reactor that had to be within planet wide distance, kinda sucks if you want to mobilize it for another planet. I believe the Halo Chronicles preview showed a Mjolnir I suite. However the Spartan I program was something different, that was to make super humans, and then the idea was to give those super humans, kickass weapons and impenetrable armor.
ODST is going to be out in just 7 days! I haven't been this excited for a Halo game since I read about Halo 1 coming out for Xbox...
Can't wait, Tuesday I shall feign death and pick it up for major firefight action.

Don't get me wrong, I love the series, and I felt EXACTLY the same way when Halo 2 came out, but H3 let me down, hard. I wasn't bad, its just that it lacked the 'oomphf' of the first two games, and was most disappointed by the fucking assault rifle. In halo: ce it seemed louder, more powerful and all around more badass and useful with 60 rounds. The Halo 3 one sounds like its fucking silenced for gods sake, its horrible. And while it seems to have a greater kill capacity then the HCE AR, the magazine half the size just make it seems like it abruptly ends when you reach the end of a magazine. Don't even get me started on the Halo 3 'magnum' I really have no fucking idea what Bungie was thinking when they introduced a new, shitfuck version of the Halo 1 pistol. They did it right in Halo 1 and 2. They may as well not have bothered at all in Halo 3. And generally the move of combat from mid-long range to mid-close range. That was the thing that frustrated me the most, for me it didn't make combat more brutal, it made it a game of who could hit be fastest. Whereas in Halo 2, longer ranges enabled actual strategies to unfold, and it increased the value of people who knew how to properly ambush people, and being able to use SMGs was a valuable skill. Now in Halo 3, the SMG is all but useless, along with the pistol since they incorporated weapons that do more damage at the same range. All these things, combined with the fact that half the shit wasn't even introduced in the game manual or game itself, have shaken my faith in Bungie to make another good Halo game. I look forward to ODST out of sheer loyalty to the series, and honestly I think Bungie needs to change engines for another Halo to be successful. *sigh* I hope this game turns out well...

Remember long ago the in-game demo that Bungie released for Halo 2 showing those awesome city battles that never ended up being in the game? That is pretty much what ODST is doing except now they reintroduced Health kits, single wielding and the lovable scoped pistol! My only complaint is that there will be no elites, which I felt should have at least been in firefight since that is separate from the main story. Also I totally agree with you that Bungie dropped the ball on Halo 3 "close range" multiplayer, the melee system is so f*cked up and when the game first came out I remember that sometimes it could take forever to respawn because you had to wait for your 1 ton ass to stop flying 100000 ft after being killed by a melee strike, at least they fixed that part... So I'm cautiously excited, but I think the addition of Firefight , the city missions Halo 2 promised, and the inclusion of all the Halo 3 multiplayer maps into one pack makes this Halo a winner.
:sigh: ODST is averaging a 9.0 in reviews, making it the lowest rated Halo game in the series. Oh well I got it using a gift card so for me it was basically free! source: http://www.gamestats.com/objects/852/852871/#reviews /sarcasm
Very excited then, I have been staying away from any leaks in ingame footage so far, I want that pleasant surprise to see it first hand.
Very excited then, I have been staying away from any leaks in ingame footage so far, I want that pleasant surprise to see it first hand.
I'm getting it tonight (tomorrow?) the Gamestop next store is doing a midnight release party. Should be entertaining even if only for a day, and plus like I said earlier I basically got it for free. Well hope you enjoy your copy, I'll post a personal review once I've beaten it and unlike :foxnews: mine really will be "fair and balanced" lol.
hot damn
If you guys haven't figured it out yet {Topic TL:DR}, It's Hungarian.
If you guys haven't figured it out yet {Topic TL:DR}, It Hungarian.
Very, Very late. Yes, I'm going to the midnight release for mine also, this will be the first time I have ever gone to a midnight release for anything. Was it fun last time you went?
What language is that?
Galic. [editline]10:42PM[/editline]
Agreed. But the Astartes are made in the Emperor's image, therefore the holy marines are invincible. [editline]08:52AM[/editline] Ha, I was right, the song is Gaelic. How could I doubt the language of my ancestors. Proof: "Song: The Gaelic song is a version of Café del Mar's "Light of Aidan - Lament", which is much more lighter and softer"
Halo 3: Odst is fucking amazingly epicle!!!! :d
coolness factor 9/10 informational factor 1/10 (seriously you get to got a funerals thats all i got fro, the TV ad, oohhh fun)
Wow, two retarded people one after another.
Got ODST today, finished the campaign in about 5 and a half hours, didn't explore much and I'm still missing a lot of audio logs. The story is very good, the action is fucking awesome and the last level is amazing, the scale is damn epic. Joins up to Halo 3 very nicely.
Wow, two retarded people one after another.
Retarded? All i saw (on the TV ad in the UK) was a short clip of a funeral where they were giving a 21 gun salute with that standard halo rife thingy. and ODST appeard on the screen. Wow don't tell me too much about the game!

The reinforcement these soldiers are no different than the marines of today but dropped into extremely dramatic circumstances. Made it epic. If you're not 8 years old.

As in i wasn't sure if they were sleiing me a video game or a movie.
Well as promised here is my unbiased review (I'm a Halo fan, but I'm also critical towards the games I spend money on). Story: The story takes place during the time shortly after the Prophet of Truth's ship opens a slipstream portal in New Mombasa blowing up the city as it goes. You play as the silent rookie (seriously I think Gordan Freeman talks more than him!). Overall the story was very edge-of-your seat, and some of the twists are quite good. But the ending falls flat and comes much to sudden (got about 90% of all the audio logs and did all the side missions and still beat it in under 6 hours). My only other complaint about the campaign is that you don't get to do more as the rookie. The difference between the rookie segments and the action sequences is like the difference between splinter cell, and Gears of war, so I wish they would have expanded the rookie segments and gave you more to do (rather than investigate). Gameplay: This is standard Halo fare, if you don't like Halo, don't play it! The addition of the "health bar" and stamina mechanic was an interesting change, but I never found myself really having to worry about my health even on Heroic. My biggest complaint here is the noise your suite makes when you get injured. Whenever your health drops below 40% a super annoying beeping noise starts playing, and the worst part? It doesn't stop until you find a med kit! I just didn't understand the designer's goal with driving the player insane. Firefight: Seriously firefight was extremely overrated in my opinion, I played it for a little while and then I really missed horde mode. There's just not enough variety in the enemies compared to Gears, and unlike Nazi zombies there's no money or weapons purchase system to make you want to stay. Maybe if they had put the flood and elites into Firefight that would have helped, but alas they didn't. My other disappointment with firefight is the design of the levels. There's about 8-10 of them, but they're mostly just rehashed campaign levels with non of that lovely Bungie touch that makes their maps seem alive. The amount of time it takes to beat a set mixed with the fact that you can only play with friends means that organizing a match and trying to stay together for 3 hours just doesn't seem worth it. Graphics: They are absolutely gorgeous. To anyone saying the graphics suck or the animations are poor, then they obviously haven't played this game, that or they never turned their visor mode off. That's the only complaint here, visor mode washes out the colors, and mucks everything up. Music/Sound: The music and sound were as always top notch, no complaints here, and the night time musical segments were chillingly beautiful. Overall: The thing I really have to dock this game for is its lack of staying power. It's like the best 6 hours of sex you have ever had, but then afterwards your lover chops your dick off. The game was amazing while it lasted but like everything else it must end. The real disappointment here was the asking price for what you get. You can pretty much ignore firefight unless you have a bunch of super hardcore, no life friends to play with you for 3 hours straight. I think Microsoft should have set the price at $39.00, I mean it took me longer to beat Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, and it only cost me $30.00. $65.00 for ODST is just impossible to justify. Overall Score: 7.9/10 It has amazing strengths, but it's faults help keep it from shining.
I want that song in the trailer.
I want that song in the trailer.
It is a custom remix (and a new singer) of the song Café del Mar's "Light of Aidan - Lament" Your not going to find the redone song by itself unless Microsoft decides to release it. Here's the original song;
I know it's a remade song, the original is very light. To be honest the remixed version sounds like a song sung in the meeting halls of celtic villages before a battle or something. Which makes it more awesome.
I really enjoyed the story too, and I didn't like how as soon as you got to a certain part, your ally was literally sprinting way the hell in front of you. Made me feel REALLY rushed, and while the game had that nice feel to it, that instance made me feel like I was skipping through everything. I disagree strongly with your opinion of the rookie segments. I liked the stark contrast between environments, and the abandoned feeling- its not like the battle was in full swing anymore, everyone had either evacuated or died, hense the relatively light covenant patrol. I LOVED the audiologs also. Also, what else did you expect the Rookie to do? He's a rookie, I doubt he would know what half the stuff going on 'behind the scenes' of the war (the stuff the MC, spartan and ONI operatives would know) even existed/happened. Also he's a ROOKIE for God's sake, what did you expect? Him to somehow destabilize the city and allow the humans to make a comeback? His purpose after he landed was to find his squadmates. That is the ONLY thing I can see someone doing under the circumstances, especially when you're being given clues and pointed in the right direction by the Superintendent. Not go blundering around a city for no reason. Oh, and I also only found 90% of the audio logs. Think I missed a few when I literally had to run nonstop through a section of a level. Also about Graphics, I couldn't agree more. Visor does mess things up, but it's a light amp and fof mode, so I cut it some slack there. I really loved everything about nighttime mode, my only complaint was that sometimes it forced you to use the ViSR mode too frequently, but I really didn't mind it at all.
The music is incredible, I'm listening to the OST now and it's just DOOSKIE! Marty & the team really can produce the most suiting music, for the style of ODST and it's scenes. It's just perfect.
Actually that is not true at all, and I never understood that in Halo 3 or ODST. Only New Mombasa and the Space based Naval forces had been destroyed. It sounds like the rest of the planet had been left relatively intact since the covenant had only been ordered to secure and excavate "the artifact" So I never understood why there weren't bigger earth based battles, when humans have shown to be excellent guerrilla fighters (no pun intended). Also think of the comback the humans mounted during Halo 3 in just New Mombasa alone, obviously the battle was still not completely over.
Also he's a ROOKIE for God's sake, what did you expect? Him to somehow destabilize the city and allow the humans to make a comeback? So for instance you go into a plaza and see the Covenant are constructing an AA gun and you can do an optional side mission to try and disable it, and in return the Superintendent opens up a new area. Or how about missions that the superintendent nudges you towards to try and help him recover more abilities (the audio logs state that one of the superintendents duties once the invasion started was to help identify and track Covenant targets. So maybe you could help him "tag" targets) Obviously the stuff I suggested is just that, suggestions. I didn't design the character but Bungie probably could have come up with more to do, its just that the city environments were so beautiful and then I was stuck playing underground or on freeways for the last 1/3 of the game. As for the blundering about. What do you think your doing when you look for the audio logs the Superintendent is nudging you towards? Those are completely useless in the Rookies mission and serve only as a distraction (as for me the player I loved the audio log story). So it really comes down to a balance of realism/fun, who cares if a rookie wouldn't do those things if it's fun to do. It's not like there is such a thing as shield covered cybernetic bad asses roaming the galaxy either.
As far as I know, it was a planet wide invasion, in the beginning of The Ghosts of Onyx I think its safe to assume that once the covenant came back for round II they pretty much obliterated the rest of the MAC stations, and almost completely wiped out the navy, allowing them to deploy a greater number of troops to finally wipe out humanity. I mean, they finally found their greatest enemie's last bastion (which incidentally contained a forerunner artifact) why wouldn't they press their advantage and exterminate them completely? That's my reasoning for a planet wide invasion anyways. That's not to say the humans didn't put up a fight- I think in the beginning of the Ghosts of Onyx book (If I recall correctly) a few of the SIIs destroyed space elevator some brutes were using to ferry supplies or whatever into orbit. I still disagree with the whole 'side mission' suggestion, because its a Superintendent AI, not a military one, it would not know what most of the previously unseen covenant weaponry was. Yes, it knew what their vehicles, and more notorious species were, but even then it's information was incomplete. Also, there is high probability that the covenant had compromised some of the other sections of the city, blocking access from the Superintendent. But, as you said it was a suggestion, and since neither of us are game developers (yet) it is just a matter of preference. I always thought the 'nudges' were the Superintendent's (I won't give the subroutine's name to prevent spoilers) way to get the Rookie to check on a particular individual since they no longer had the means to communicate with him. Also, I felt sad at the end because I didn't get to find out what happened to that individual due to me being forced to rush through the latter levels. It makes me sad :( (don't tell me though, I'm going to go through on Normal and take my time looking for them all)

Also I need to revise my Campaign assessment because now that I'm playing the game on legendary the Rookie sections seem about the right length since there is much more fighting and action to get to the flashback segments. My recommendation now to people that haven't started campaign yet; if your decent at video games start this one on legendary, its not that hard and it extends the campaign a bit and makes the battles much more epic and exciting. I've been playing Legendary for about 2 hours and it is the way the game was meant to be played.
