The brainchild of two harvard students? Wow, a real rags to riches story. I just hope some day in the future that we can buy all our games online so we don't have to go through gamestop, essentially a giant middleman.
I just hate how my preorder codes from there never work. That's bullshit.
I've been meaning to see if they left a Blood Dragon Armor code in one of their Dragon Age cases. DA:O is a cool game, but I really don't want to buy it for some cool ME2 armor.
Well you have to admit that the customer service there is amazing. The clerks are really nice.
Gamestop sucks
Not really, they have great deals, old games used for 20 bucks? Fucking awesome Bargin Bins full of old goodies or classics that I like but others hate, FUCKING AWESOME
Well you have to admit that the customer service there is amazing. The clerks are really nice.
Situational, it takes a real person to work min. wage and not hate their job.
I remember Babbages and EB Games. They were awesome. Then GameShit came in and became the greedy fuckfaces they are today

gamestop is always a good store i dont know why facepunch has a grudge against them. sure trading in games is a rip-off but how else are they going to make money, and if you actually trade them in your an idiot for not selling it online.
GameStop is only good for trade-ins, and only if they have a special going on.

i miss EBGames they sold used pc games then gamestop bought them out and it all went to shit fuck gamestop
Yea guise lets haet a business cuz they are maeking profits! Lul the facist bastards, making money is a crime!!! seriously guys, shape up you lazy sacks of shit, no one is FORCING you to shop and trade in games there, so don't do it.
lets buy gamestop out and make them sell more PC games.
GameStop is only good for trade-ins, and only if they have a special going on.
No you can almost always get a better deal selling it yourself.
Maybe not rip off people so they can make such a gigantic profit (i mean sure huge profits sounds like a good thing but when it comes to buying a game for $4 and then selling it for $20, that's fucking bullshit)
pretty much every other store i know does the same thing though, so i don't see why it's a big deal if gamestop does it.
Why buy at Gamestop when I can wait for a steam sale and get a game for 50%, maybe even 25%, of their price.
I like Gamestop personally, I've picked up a shit ton of cheap games from there. Nowhere else would I get like 4 PS2 games for $20, and there's no shipping involved. Sure other places have items cheaper, but when you factor in shipping gamestop really does have a good business. I'd never trade in anything though, that's where consumers get fucked.
Gamestop is ok. Thankfully, though, there is a non-Gamestop game store near where I live, so I don't have to go there if I need to buy from a brick and mortar store.
I used to go to a videogame store downtown that sold oldschool stuff such as NES and Intellevision consoles. Their trade-in deals were great, I used to be able to sell 2-3 xbox games and get one free. The staff was also very friendly and knowledgable. But now I just don't have the time to drive all the way down there just for a single game. I doubt they are still in business either. I don't think Gamestop is bad or anything, but they're no different than Best Buy and Future Shop when it comes to buying games.
The Orange Box on Steam: 30 dollars The Orange Box at GameStop: 40 dollars :colbert:
Think about this. Digital distribution costs bandwidth to distribute while retail costs dvd's, packaging, shipping and a profit on the stores end. An advantage to retail is that you also have the games in full on cd/dvd, meaning no extra downloading and wasting your limited bandwidth (if need apply (considering updates to TF2 the orange box may not be a good candidate for my example, but there are many others that do)). :colbert:

Oh lord i've bought 8 rare ps2 games from a different store (the name slips my mind i think it's gameworld or something) and it was all for around $40. And by rare i mean Silent Hill 1, 2, Resident Evil 1, MvC2, etc.
Gahahah, video game stores.
They overprice their games. I'm not spending 40 dollars on a 20 dollar game, thank you very much.
What? The used games pricing goes down over time (I get mine for under 15$), and Gamestop doesn't control the $60 price for (new) current gen games. Platinum hits are $20 new, and that's set by Microsoft as well. What kind of crazy alleyway merchant are you buying shit from?
i miss EBGames they sold used pc games then gamestop bought them out and it all went to shit fuck gamestop
That's becoming impossible due to DRM, but feel free to blame a retailer hurr durr
Maybe not rip off people so they can make such a gigantic profit (i mean sure huge profits sounds like a good thing but when it comes to buying a game for $4 and then selling it for $20, that's fucking bullshit)
FYI that's basic entrepeneurship. I guess now you should criticize stock trading :downs:

My brother bought Bad Company 2 for Xbox360 the other day... He hates waiting when he really wants something, so he bought it at GameStop. The price? 699 kronor = about 95 bucks. And yes, the VAT is high for games here, 25%. :frown: The normal price for console games here is 599kr, which is still outrageous.
Prices in retail shops are not controlled by Microsoft.
Purchase vs. retail pricing basically sets the default price at $60.
They should add: "In 2010, GameSpot went retarded with their Condemned 2: Bloodshot and other reviews."
