Deus Ex #1 i want some of whatever /v/ is smoking
What? Deus ex is one of the few games that actually deserve that place [editline]13th July 2012[/editline]
I dunno. Deus Ex is one of my favorite games. Then again, I played it when I was younger, so Nostalgia goggles maybe? That's always the problem with these lists, half of it is all Zelda and Pokemon, and you just have to accept that's the nostalgia goggles talking also no max payne wtf
It's not nostalgia The first time I played it was last summer, and I am still convinced that it is one of the best games ever (if not the best game)
What? Deus ex is one of the few games that actually deserve that place
oh come on graphics were incredibly stale, especially by 2001 standards the voice acting was charming in the same way old b-movie horror flicks are charming and the gameplay was as balanced as a person with their leg blown off i like the concept, and it is a good game, but 1st place? you really can't think of any other games that had top-notch concept AND execution?
Come to think of it, I really don't know what game I would give first place to. It's not Deus Ex but Deus Ex would probably be at least top 10.
Doom all the way at 84. What a disgrace.
seriously facepunch, the fuck is wrong with you occasionally people judge things based on different perspectives than your own I'm not the biggest fan of reddit in the world but every single time someone makes a list of anything, literally everybody pipes up with their personal favorite and the related outrage as to the fact that it's not everybody's personal favorite
Doom all the way at 84. What a disgrace.
Papyrus was an important step on the road to modern paper, but it probably wouldn't appear on my "top 100 recording methods of all time."
Papyrus was an important step on the road to modern paper, but it probably wouldn't appear on my "top 100 recording methods of all time."
To be fair, Doom still is really fucking fun.
This is awful.
Papyrus was an important step on the road to modern paper, but it probably wouldn't appear on my "top 100 recording methods of all time."
You can't go back to papyrus and enjoy using it, Doom you can go back to and enjoy it as long as you can look past the graphics. That's like saying Diablo 1 doesn't belong on that list just because the sequel had more features
seriously facepunch, the fuck is wrong with you occasionally people judge things based on different perspectives than your own I'm not the biggest fan of reddit in the world but every single time someone makes a list of anything, literally everybody pipes up with their personal favorite and the related outrage as to the fact that it's not everybody's personal favorite
Aren't you being the same way dismissing Doom just because it's old, saying it doesn't belong on the top 100 and all? I mean, occasionally, people judge things based on different perspectives than your own
Battlefield 3 on the list Battlefield 2 NOT on the list Fuck off.
I liked HL2, but HL1 deserves the top spot.

where is SSX It's one of the few games I can just go back to and have fun
Portal 1 and 2 in top ten, and Half Life 2 at #1 while Half Life 1 is not even in the top ten. horrible
/v/'s list is actually neat, mother 3 and mgs3 are both such oudstanding games but i think mirrors edge deserves a place there, the game has no replayability at all but its quality is amazing [editline]14th July 2012[/editline] and deus ex being first is a no-no terrible ai, terrible combat, terrible voice acting (charming though, as thisispain said), sub par graphics even back when it was released dont get me wrong its a candidate for top ten for its amazing story and atmosphere but definitely not #1
Deus Ex is pretty cool but man has it aged like shit
No Quake? Or even any game from the series? Weak.
Now that I think about it, why is Goldeneye 007 praised so much? It's aged poorly and Perfect Dark is by far superior.
where is SSX It's one of the few games I can just go back to and have fun
it's not "deep" enough to make reddit's list of contrived circlejerking bullshit
Deus Ex is pretty cool but man has it aged like shit
yeah i can understand how people that have never played it before can enjoy it but when you play it when it came out as a young kid it's really fucking cool. when you come back to it in the year 2012 it's literally the biggest most ill-conceived piece of crap ever. i can't even get to hells kitchen without dying of boredom. it's such a shame. i can't speak for everybody but oh my god, it's so boring. same goes for thief in a way. it was really intense when it first came out but it's seriously irritatingly lame just think, though. in another decade we're all going to look back and think of games that set the bar now with original story and interesting storytelling methods (like mass effect for example) and be like WOW THIS GAME IS PLAYS LIKE DONKEY DOO-DOO
MGS at number 35. List immediately invalidated.
Can't we all just agree that games are fun and thats it?
Portal 1 and 2 in top ten, and Half Life 2 at #1 while Half Life 1 is not even in the top ten. horrible
Portal 1 should be replaced by Half-Life 1. Portal was a cool new concept when it came out, but Portal 2 is leaps better and Half-Life 1 was more influential.
half-life 1 looked great at the time but oh my god, it's sooo boring. i don't understand how it gets so much credit other than leading up to a pretty decent sequel. it's like any other average shooter that came out at the time. you know what else came out in 1998? rainbow six. god forbid someone would remember a game that had substance to it. [editline]14th July 2012[/editline] tbh you could compare half-life to daikatana. sure, they came out at different years but both games have god-awful AI and pretty average visuals at the time. if it wasn't for the modding scene and enormous amounts of advertising from gaming magazines, nobody would even think about half-life. it's kind of like blood or MDK. those games were all over gaming mags at the time. unfortunately MDK has been pretty much long forgotten [editline]14th July 2012[/editline] in fact when you think about it, games like gunman: chronicle (which is essentially a half-life mod) are like 200x better than half-life. you get to DRIVE TANKS in that game. what does half-life have? shitty tramways that go in one direction
Only Call of Duty is Call of Duty 4 at 58. I guess 58 is an alright number for setting the new standard of shooter post-2007 (:downs:) but no CoD1?
/r/ is full of casuals, what do you expect [editline]14th July 2012[/editline] and bro gamers. can't forget those
Half-life was amazing when it first came out because before that everything was doom and quake clones. The AI was pretty spiffy for the time too. [editline]13th July 2012[/editline] parts of it haven't held up very well but goddamn I do love the heck out of most of it.
the most frustrating thing about the list and gaming lists in general is because people post game titles for nostalgia sake and not for the sake of them being GENUINELY GOOD hey guys remember zelda? obv yes, now name me a game that'd be worth replaying. you know... something like baldur's gate?
lol Battlefield 3 and Halo 2 over MGS3. Thanks OP this is the funniest thing I've seen all week.
lol Battlefield 3 and Halo 2 over MGS3. Thanks OP this is the funniest thing I've seen all week.
i think he was culling in votes from /r/ and not posting his own opinion, so it's reddit's fault for voting. if facepunch did a poll i'm sure a lot of people would rage at the difference of opinion too. a lot of the users here are here because of half-life and garry's mod, even though those of us with a brain know that those games are really just insanely average
No Jet Set Radio? Shenmue? Well okay then. Then again I have zero interest in Reddit so I don't really care.
