Yeah, but by the time MGS 2 was out, none of this mess was untangled. I hate this in Kojimas writing and generally, if a story goes batshit insane and they just leave it to you before something is came up with in a sequel. If I play a game, I want a story, that doesn't expect me to play the game multiple time until I partially understand it, not because of its complexity, but just because it is unnecissarely confusing. And If you have a series, then dont force me to play every part to fuly grasp what is going on, leaving me unable to understand anything if I just play one part (or those that came out for my system). That is a really cheap way to build up a fanbase, making only those who stuck with is from the beginning to end have any obscure enjoyment of it, even if it was just constantly hoping to get conclusions. Then you get a silly explaination and more riddled crap to make you stick with it. Its this 'LOST' method and the reason why I never watched lost. I want to just sit back and enjoy. Sure, I fancy a complex story very much, but only if it is an intelligent one. DEUS EX or Vampire: bloodlines are good examples. throughout the story you get confused, but also get HINTS so you get intrigued and start making your own conclusions. It gives you the feeling that the story is going somewhere and gives you a chance to figure out the right explaination by yourself. And in the end there is a surprising, but PLAUSIBLE conclusion. THis is what I miss in MGS 2 and many other games. The writers just dont seem to know where their story is going themselves, because there are no clues. It is just one big riddle and then an explaination. this is bad writing, because you know exactly, that they just needed something confusing to get you intrigued and didn't really think of the outcome until later. And If they really had it thought through, but it still jumps from mindfucking mistery to obscure explaination, then they didn't make the palyer think for themselves and I can hardly imagine why you would want that, other than selling it to people who are not so good an thinking or in order to make people come up with crazy (fan-) fiction to build up... you know a big trusty fanbase.
i get you, i get you... but it's not just that single game... the whole series is one big refferal to earlier events or games... but you're being funny... almost EVERY game except Pong and space invaders does this to some extend. and, mate... when the PS3 is down to 100bucks... go get MGS 4... it ties almost everything up leaving tiny bits up to your imagination, such as just when ocelot got a bionic arm and if he ever HAD liquids arm at all. and that "fortune" thing is never resolved either. but the rest is neatly wrapped and your headache is gone. but, all games refer to earlier entries or events in lore...
Oh and any game which has Halo 3/ CoD style multiplayers. They're what I call HD shooters. HURR DURR
Those type of shooters are the type of games where the community ruins the experience EDIT: Big turn off of mine
pong
My, its a shame, I couldn't enjoy MGS 2 because it was so heavily driven by its story. The gamplay was excellent, and filled everything that the old PS1 game missed. If only I could play snake eater, or whatever the remake of MGS 1 was called. I really like that game. Everything stays within certain borders. Sure, you get psycho mantis, a telekinesis magician guy, but he is explained that way: BAM! Telekinesis guy. He can do Telekinesis. Fight him now! And that is all the seriousness such a character should be taken with. Add a backgroundy that doesn't involve secret gouvernment organisations and Aliens and Wizzards and you have sucessfully implemented him into the scenario.
Mass Effect. It's a good game but the citadel and the ships look polished. They look odd. Im just used to seeing something like that.

although its not a game, footmen frenzy on warcraft 3. holy shit I don't know how anyone can have fun on that fuckin map, all you do is send footmen at each other.
Pokemon, Zelda, CoD
although its not a game, footmen frenzy on warcraft 3. holy shit I don't know how anyone can have fun on that fuckin map, all you do is send footmen at each other.
i like it... dunno why.
also, get Snake Eater... it's the best story in the series and makes the most sense out of any of them, very Bond-ish.
Fixed.
Fixed.
you basically quoted me 1:1 and expanded the sentence to Politician... appreciate that actually... i've never wanted to learn that language, too much bullshit is said to say nothing at all.
STALKER Clear Sky wasn't really that brilliant. Bought the first game as well, but I haven't tried that one.
Fallout 3.
I didn't really enjoy Fallout 3 either but I didn't hate it. I got up to the radio tower and I stopped playing for games I enjoyed more.
you basically quoted me 1:1 and expanded the sentence to Politician... appreciate that actually... i've never wanted to learn that language, too much bullshit is said to say nothing at all.
wtf?
wtf?
^politician... spends his days stitching together mindnumbingly long sentences to answer yes/no questions... if you try to ask em if they have a Cigarette they end up going on about how they may and may not have one at this minute and how they tend to have one Thursday night, but never at monday mornings. the rest of us would say, "yeah sure" or "piss off, get some work and buy your own"

MW2. Watching CoD4 load was more fun than that hunk of garbage.
MW2. Watching CoD4 load was more fun than that hunk of garbage.
wait....you have general shepard as your avatar but you hate mw2?...wtf
Pokemon too. It was just spam B until you're enemy dies. I didn't see what made that game so strategic. [editline]04:40PM[/editline]
wait....you have general shepard as your avatar but you hate mw2?...wtf
I suffer from chronic laziness. [editline]04:42PM[/editline] STALKER too, I liked what it was trying to be, but something about it wasn't fun to me.
I know what a politician is, i just don't know why you called that post something like one would say.
i was just pulling your leg because your post was both CLEARER and more detailed than my own. comeon, can't a guy have some fun, eh?
Borderlands
Borderlands
I agree, it is really one of the most overrated games of last year.
I agree, it is really one of the most overrated games of last year.
And it pains me so much to know that it could've been so much more in it's earlier stages.
I agree, it is really one of the most overrated games of last year.
It just gets tedious after a while. Having to walk across the map thing just to teleport to another map thing and walk all the way across it and pick up an audio log. I know you get vehicles but they get boring because it's so hard to steer when the enemy is moving, it's a one hit kill, just too sensitive.
Empire and Napoleon Total War are utter shit games. I can't believe I spent $80 on the Empire collector's edition thinking I would get a print of Radoslav's concept illustrations.
Empire and Napoleon Total War are utter shit games. I can't believe I spent $80 on the Empire collector's edition thinking I would get a print of Radoslav's concept illustrations.
Rome: Total War was the only game I bought, played once, then never played again.
And it pains me so much to know that it could've been so much more in it's earlier stages.
I was seriously let down at the ending.
Some gay free online game called Rumble Fighter All my fucking friends like it, like my friends an I are all 15-16, and they play games like this shit?
I've played it, it's a dumbed down version of final fight with a terrible community.
Halo 2+3+ODST, battlefield bad company, gta:sa; I liked vice city/3 a LOT better, guitar hero, noby noby boy/flower, god of war series, fable 2 was horrible and I have a feeling fable 3 will be too.
anyone who says half life is an enemy to the republic
So basically anyone who actually DOES what the title says right? Also, PORTAL sucked. :smug:
