When I mean bad FPS, I mean that it took me a good 7 minutes just to get to the barman from the Wild Territory entrance.

Yeah, if you really don't want a gunsplosion and have already gone to the bar, install all the patches and start a new game. I applied the patch when I was still in the Cordon, didn't start a new game. Haven't gone to the bar yet.
since you can do 3rd Person view in SoC, is there a mod that will show your legs in 1st Person View (you look down and see your legs), I have seen it done with Left 4 Dead, but that doesn't mean its possible for this game.

On probably my fourth playthrough right now, this game is so much better than I remembered, apart from the many random slowdowns and crashes, SMP is great.
