Tell me more about this "starforce"..
Tell me more about this "starforce"..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarForce
Community response Some gamers have advocated boycotts of games or publishers known to use StarForce.[14] These gamers claim that StarForce software causes system instability and crashes, and that Protection Technology refuses to address the damage their software causes. Ubisoft decided to investigate the extent of the StarForce boycott and ran a poll on their forums, the outcome of which was against the use of StarForce.[15] As a result (along with a lawsuit[16] and general discontent on the web[17][18]), in Heroes of Might and Magic V and GTR2, StarForce 3.0 was replaced by SecuROM.

On January 1, 2006, Boing Boing, a popular technology weblog, alleged that StarForce was malware, citing several problems associated with the protection system, including disk drive performance degradation, weakening of operating system security and stability.[22] A month later on January 31, 2006 the reporter received an email from StarForce, threatening to sue, claiming the FBI had been contacted, and stating that the article was "full of insults, lies, false accusations and rumors".[23] CNET ran a similar story and received a similar email.[24] On March 5, 2006, a Protection Technology employee posted a link to a torrent search engine for the results of the search for Galactic Civilizations 2, a (highly profitable[citation needed]) game developed by StarDock which does not use mandatory copy prevention, as a demonstration of what a lack of prevention can lead to.[25][26] StarForce later issued an apology for this act after it received a great deal of attention on the Internet.
I've never had a problem with starforce. Or any other thing like it.
gah, Shadow of Chernobyl is taking ages to download. Ah well, it's worth it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarForce
Sounds kind of bad..
Sounds kind of bad..
Starforce is bad. Very bad. So bad, it should be illegal.
But I thought there was a tool they hosted on their website to remove it after all the bad publicity they got.
I take it you can't run the game with it removed? :v:
I just found an article in my 2003 Game Informer showing pictures from this game. It looked practically the same save for the awesome lighting. I might upload the article.
So anyone want to answer me on what i should edit to make the flashlight better? SomeFaggot posted a code a couple pages back that should replace the flashlight but I have no idea where to put it.
This might be the only game in the series that I will not use a trainer on.
What? STALKER Vanilla is easy even on master.
I love how all the Russian Publishers always go for Starforce. I guess they figure that after browsing some Russian Domains, your computers probably full of AIDS anyways, what could it hurt to piss in an ocean of urine.
They're not Russian.. They're Ukrainian..

Thank you.
So what part of Russia/Ukraine does this take place in? Still around Chernobyl I'm guessing, but where are the real life to video game areas you can explore? We've been to Rostok, Yantar, Limnesk. Where do we go this time? [editline]11:07PM[/editline]
Good thing the international version of CS had SecuROM, I assume CoP will do the same.
I fucking hate securom. My disk got fucked up, than I couldn't play CS anymore. [editline]11:09PM[/editline] God fucking damn. I really wanna learn Russian. Mabey rosetta stone works. You can find brain-jars in there if you go down to the factory.
Pripyat, which is going to be a real-to-life version of the Eastern section of the city only. "Jupiter factory," which is based off of some industrial complex near Pripyat. And that marsh area, I forget the name, which is based off of the Pripyat river, but in the game, is partially drained. There's comparison pictures somewhere, hold on.
One will be the Jupiter Factory, based on this weird-ass secret experimental government thing IRL. You can find brain-jars in there if you go down to the factory.
I'm gonna go look at the Ukraine on google earth.
I'm gonna go look at the Ukraine on google earth.
Here are some pics, http://www.wuala.com/Chernobyl/Pripyat/Pripyat%20Factory%20-%20Jupiter , but I don't know where I found the jars..
Well, I can't find the comparison pictures, but here's some more goodies. Box-art. Anyways, I made some comparison shots for you, using a satellite image of Pripyat and the surrounding area from Google Earth, and Flaming Neko's map pictures Original - Comparison Looks like Pripyat and Jupiter have been rotated by a certain degree in-game. Pripyat river looks to be on the money. They pretty much did the Eastern half of Pripyat true to life, as well as the Eastern and Southern parts of the Pripyat river. Not to mention the large chunk of the concrete desert they included. Anybody know what that's all about, anyway?
Yeah, after poking around, Everything is true to life in model, but almost all of it is moved around. Pripriat is to the north west of the NPP for one.
Yeah, after poking around, Everything is true to life in model, but almost all of it is moved around. By the way, that is some nice artwork for the box cover, those colors are turning me on.
Hey Holden, is that revolver still in? I want one as my sidearm for when I'm sniping. [editline]06:49PM[/editline] It IS! raging_bull.ltx found. [editline]06:50PM[/editline] And it uses .50AE ammo (duh). Awesome.

Pripyat keeps bugging me for d3dx9_41.dll and I have DX9 installed?
Pripyat keeps bugging me for d3dx9_41.dll and I have DX9 installed?
I can't see how it needs a d3dx9_41.dll since it's a town. Real-life is not even rendered.
I can't see how it needs a d3dx9_41.dll since it's a town. Real-life is not even rendered.
Hahaha i get the joke. :geno:
I can't see how it needs a d3dx9_41.dll since it's a town. Real-life is not even rendered.
What? Real life runs on the Life 2.3a engine, of course it's rendered.
