Auto-resolve can also be used if you're attacking a citadel and only have a catapult for siege weaponry.You'd never make it inside normally.

I have always loved the total war series.
The grand campaign online is probably the most interesting addition (it was in the medieval 2 expansion too, but only on local), finally I will be able to play against a human-controlled faction.
