Downloading now. Can't wait.
2.9 kb/s and I have even paused my torrents. Baw.
Why does noone know that even if you pause your torrents, the program will still slow your connection down.
Finally got it downloaded. Naval battles are so frustrating (Need to get used to it I suppose) Land battles are pretty good, cavalry charges ftw.
This is the most difficult and most tactical Total War game by FAR. They did a great job with this one. A true gem. We'll look back on this game in the future as a classic, to be up there with such games as RoN, AoE, Starcraft, etc.
Ship battles are awesome! Had the entire french fleet in my semi-cricle of ships and they just got slaughtered. Managed to put all settings on high and it looks as good as it plays :) Probably will leave the land battles till tomorrow.
I am sad now, I just went over to gametrailers and watched all of their Empire Total War stuff and now I want the game so bad but since my pc sucks ass.. all I can do is to complain in this thread and be jealous of all of you lucky people with good rigs that can handle this amazing game. Have fun guys.. have fun. :(
I FUCKING HATE STEAM. I started the download 3 hours ago, and get to about 10% when I go and just pass time. I minimize steam. I come back 3 hours later and it says "download starting" and it starts at 0% for about 15 min before it goes to 1%. I have to fucking redownload it.
how the bloody hell do you win the land battle, if there was a big open field battle Id work better but so many damn trees bottleneck you
how the bloody hell do you win the land battle, if there was a big open field battle Id work better but so many damn trees bottleneck you
I send my army over the other crossing, using the mercs to flush out the couple of units hiding there for my cavalry. Then I moved the rest of my troops into formation and faced off against the enemy army at field past the woods, before finishing off their cannons with horses and mercs.
Good to see the first impressions are positive.
I got to 87% in like 10 minutes and now I'm stuck.
Steadily downloading at 230kb/s. Hopefully it'll be done by at least 8:30 :D
Wow. Usually I suck at the Total War Demos yet... This time, everything clicked, save for my general getting himself ahead of everyone at one point. This game is a WILL buy. Just need to dig up £10 for the CE...
what the fuck dick shit god damn it doesnt work :(
30% and stuck..
argh I just clustered all my line infantry on that creek and they got their poop rocked once I get on the grand campaign ill be have a lot more flexibility in my battles
[BEFORE YOU READ - I AM NOT TRYING TO PISS ANYONE OFF OR TROLL, IT IS SIMPLY MY OPINION OF THE GAME] Just played the demo Rather disappointing and no it's not because of the hype(I haven't even followed this game) Sound isn't good at all, muskets sound like pellet guns. Not much smoke at all. Combat is clunky, the horses are on some kind of drug that makes them go extremely fast. Graphics aren't that great either, it's all "LOL BLOOM+DARK COLORS = ROCK" Don't even get me started on loading times. If I were to rate this on the demo I'd probably give it a 6-7 out of 10. It doesn't feel like a total war game at all. But I'll give the full version a chance and buy it when it comes out but all I can say is that so far from what I've seen I'm rather disappointed.
I just need to ease into fighting with guns and not swords
This game is raping my pc. Huge loading times. Takes at least 2 minutes to get into the main menu, and it just freezes randomly. 4850 Q6600 4gb Ram.
By the looks of things, your graphics aren't even maxed so you can't give an opinion on the graphics.

Takes ages for me to load to the main menu too. The naval battle is really fun and challenging, though I lost all my boats but 2.
I've bought every TW game since Shogun and this demo only fills me with disappointment. There is no way a large naval battle won't degenerate into total chaos without near constant pausing. I also found naval battling just not very fun. Only a few games have ever done it right (sea dogs) and the best ones were fun just because you got really attached to your own personal ship and crew. The land battle was a terrible terrible choice for a demo map. New players will be totally put off my trying to manage two far away forces at the same time. The graphics for some reason looked worse than Medieval 2's and it was overall just not a satisfying battle at all. Even the cannons didn't give me the joy of burning treb shots. The grenadiers were kinda fun, but something with combat is seriously irking me.

This game looks AWESOME. Downloading the Demo now. (quite big)

Yet, I didn't find anything wrong with this demo and actually loved it? Whys that a terrible choice when I beat the battle first time with a nice chunk of my army left?
It looks good, runs smooth. Loading times are horriffic though
Whys that a terrible choice when I beat the battle first time with a nice chunk of my army left?
The average gamer is freaking retarded and impatient. All your troops are way better, so you are still destined to win if you are any good, but it's way too complex a scenario to show new players.

Trust me, this game has worse graphics than Half Life 1 on the settings I play on, and it still laggs. As for the game, it's fine. Sure I am not used to the combat, but I will get into it eventually. Only thing I was bothered about is the horns (during battle I heard some horn sounds?) well anyway I hate those (I am incapable to be 100% happy with anything)

I maxed them even beyond what most people would consider playable so I could try and gawk at units up close. It still looked pretty shitty. It also looks like it barely even tries to use second or third cores for anything.
