that kinda happened to me just let ur pc get used to it the first time
Yeah got a tad bit better, but still is horrible.
My computer was dying on just medium settings and I had massive load times... 4 GB RAM. My 256 card isn't that bad.... This sucks. The graphics looked like shit even when they lagged up on higher settings.
Quick, someone teach me how to play before it finishes downloading, I sucked really bad at the Medieval II demo.
Well at least pretty much everyone here is having the same graphics woes. Edit: I'm hoping this is just a demo problem...
I agree the land battle demo should have been a different map. Trying to focus on two forces at once in a forest landscape would be difficult for those not used to Total War. That said, I just sent my whole army round the back route and had a huge line battle with my entire army vs the entire enemy army, minus their cannon.
Quick, someone teach me how to play before it finishes downloading, I sucked really bad at the Medieval II demo.
Shoot at the enemy and then charge and them and poke when with sharp things.
Shoot at the enemy and then charge and them and poke when with sharp things.
So like, how do I do that? Is there a tutorial? The one in Medieval II didn't help at all...

-snip-
Waited and downloaded. Now it says the game is unavailable. What the hell?
What's so hard about the land battle? I just set my cannons up near the river, firing on the enemy artillery, once most of that was gone I sent 2 units of line infantry to fire at the nearest Americans. Meanwhile, I sent the entire block of line infantry which is to the side over the further shallows and marched them in a massive long line towards the back of the enemy infantry, who turned to intercept me, where we had a battle that was slightly favourable to my side due to formations, I sent the rest of my army to the first crossing and mopped up the wavering enemies, then I sent my Hussars charging at the enemy lines at the other side of the battlefield and scattered them unit they surrendered. And I think of myself as not very good at RTSes. I mean, the British won anyway in reality... The AI seems to have been quite historically accurate in the parts I did the same: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Brandiwyne_(1777) And I'm glad the load times aren't just me, although I'll probably still need a new processor before March to stop the occasional stuttering. Anybody else crash when they start firing grape shot halfway through a volley of chain balls?
Ok to start i've owned all of the TW's (Rome being my favourite). The graphics are really good (im running it on ultra btw), there are also some nice details if you look (like the dude drumming really fast as the line fires) Theres no background yelling noise when units are fighting eachother in melee which leaves only the sounds of individual grunting and stuff as people die. I'm not sure if that was done on purpose or what. For the naval battle, I LOVED it. I thought it was really fun to do, I even boarded the enemy flagship with my own flagship (too bad they killed my general). I thought the animations and graphics and everything was really done nicely (when ships were sinking you see people jump off or fall off). There is room for improvement but I think it's really fun and i'm definately going to buy this when it's out.
[BEFORE YOU READ - I AM NOT TRYING TO PISS ANYONE OFF OR TROLL, IT IS SIMPLY MY OPINION OF THE GAME] Just played the demo Rather disappointing and no it's not because of the hype(I haven't even followed this game) Sound isn't good at all, muskets sound like pellet guns. Not much smoke at all. Combat is clunky, the horses are on some kind of drug that makes them go extremely fast. Graphics aren't that great either, it's all "LOL BLOOM+DARK COLORS = ROCK" Don't even get me started on loading times. If I were to rate this on the demo I'd probably give it a 6-7 out of 10. It doesn't feel like a total war game at all. But I'll give the full version a chance and buy it when it comes out but all I can say is that so far from what I've seen I'm rather disappointed.
The reason why it looks like crap is because you're not running it on ultra. Good day sir.
The land battle was like god damn D-Day. Getting blasted to shit by their 24 pounder guns.
Load times on this are crappy. I think it's worse than my other TW game, Rome. Naval warfare is good though.
The reason why it looks like crap is because you're not running it on ultra. Good day sir.
I can't afford a computer that can run it that high. Good day sir.
Yes the tutorials are better, they should help you this time round.
Kind of, but they don't really teach any strategy, I still thought making my entire force charge into the Americans was a good idea, and for some reason the general got there before anyone else and died instantly. Also, the load times make the game almost unplayable.
Also, the load times make the game almost unplayable.
In the full game you won't be loading just to play a couple of pre-set scenarios. It'll either be self-made skirmishes that I'm sure the "restart" button will return in. Or a battle between two armies or fleets you care about because you own them in Campaign... Or one of probably about 6-8 pre-set scenarios if you like that sort of thing.
If the load times in the campaign are anything even close to what they are now I will be autocalcing most of my battles.
Loading times aren't even that long, what are you talking about. Also, I totally raped the rebel scum. The only units I used were Hessian Line Infantry, Light Infantry and Guards to mop up the fleeing scoundrels. The AI was a bit dumb, I managed to cut down their forces considerable when they sallied forth to meet my army hiding in the forests. :) I did better than my first try, I got "Decisive Victory". :) Edit: Also, those fucking 24 pounders are so annoying. They just shoot into hills and forests, I cut them down with my Hussars when I got the chance to break the enemy lines. Edit: Can NOT WAIT FOR THE FULL GAME!
great graphics (played on ultra) great gameplay (Holy shit ship battles are hard at first; but once you get the hang of it they rock. Also, the land battle was p cool but I didn't like how bottlenecked it was- although sending the army around the back and into the American field by the town hall yielded a cool line battle and glorious British charge) This game is pretty cinematic on ultra, and the new gameplay style feels a lot more tactical and refined than the previous "send in the horde" type gameplay. My only complaints is that the sound needs work (not so much the weapons or effect sounds, but the voices are pretty bad and there's no massive angry mob-yelling in melee like in Medieval 2). Also, the UI needs some work- it's hard to tell what unit cards are highlighted on the bottom panel. Also, the horse animations were a bit silly looking and when you order a half-dead Dragoon unit to mount their horses, you get a bunch of riderless horses in your goddamn formation that really screws everything up. Overall it feels pretty solid, with just some superficial issues. Combined with the grand campaign, this game is a definite buy for me. Keep in mind we didn't get to see refined unit technology like platoon firing either- that will be interesting to behold. Wow, I just got my ass royally handed to me, I had a damn good time doing it though, game runs perfectly smooth, looks nice, I'll definitely be buying this when it comes out.
I couldn't hear the horses galloping unless I had 2 or more cards worth of horses charging.
Same with the troops, also the continuous RATATATATATATATATATATATATATAT of the drums got old, it'd be nice if there was an actual tune to it instead of sounding like some downs baby is playing the drums The sound was just buggy overall I guess

I thought they'd be like a whole unit of fifes and drums to boost morale and maybe increase stamina, maybe that's in the full game. If not, hopefully there will be mods to add cool marching drum tunes. I want Preussen Gloria playing in the back ground while Prussia totally rapes everything. Even something this simple;
It was good, except that a lot of times when I tell the units to do something they're either unresponsive, or do something entirely different.
Did I get a fucked up version of the demo or something? It won't even let my settings be adjusted past medium, and the lag suck tits. ಠ_ಠ
Is there anyway to form 3 ranks where the front rank is kneeling and the rear rank is firing over the shoulders of the middle rank? Will that be researchable?

ONE MORE BLOODY THING. How come the highlanders have no bagpipers? Blasphemy!
Is there anyway to form 3 ranks where the front rank is kneeling and the rear rank is firing over the shoulders of the middle rank? Can someone take some pics of the sea battle and land battle after pressing the insert key? I heard that if you press insert it gives you an eye-level view of the battle so you can see what it's like to be in the thick of it. Apparently pressing insert multiple times skips to different men. (closed out of my game and I don't feel like starting it up again) Maybe this'll let us see into the interiors of the ships?
