One thing about the broadside firing is though, that it would look cooler if it didn't fire every cannon instantly at exactly the same time. Better if it fired like in the trailers, like a wave (from the start to the end of the side of the ship).
Just order your ship to hold fire then undo it when your ship is in position, I got the same Master & Commander effect.
It was pretty epic, I nearly cried.
Edit:
Also, anyone who even considered attacking the Americans head on at the right flank is crazy.
It was so obvious that you are supposed to send your entire army to the left flank, crush the rebels hiding in the forests and meet the enemy on open ground just outside the town.
No. The Total War series' battles relies on large units with a lot of cohesion. That really breaks down during and after WWI.
Actually, technically it broke down in the mid 18th century with the Jacobite uprising in 1745. I've forgotten the exact battle but one of the armies ambushed the other early in the morning instead of waiting for them both to line up nicely to be shot or cut up.
Awesome game, the loading times are evil but apart from that everything runs fine.
I feel slightly patriotic when i'm mowing down the rebels as the British.
I will definetly buy the full game, I just hope the loading times aren't as bad.
After some interesting maneuvering I got one of the larger enemy ships (I think it was a 2nd rate) sandwitched between two of my biggest ships, at a very close range. I was just about to fire a massive fucking combined broadside when.. the game crashed.
GODD DAAAAAMMNNNN
And on another note, curse my dirty mind.

Pound me please. :)
I'm glad I preordered this :]
I won the land battle, but got raped at sea.
I am running on ultra settings, with everything enabled and it looks pretty good.
Stop saying the graphics suck, how would you like thousands of troops with crysis graphics?
It would rape all PC's.

You need to give your larger ships more attention and control, the smaller ones you can just order it and attack and forget about them for awhile.
Also, has anyone else found boarding useful?

Yeah, the ambient light/shadow feature cuts my FPS down to nothing. :)

Agreed. They're pretty enough as is.
I don't see why every single soldier needs a different face anyway.
Tried the demo, It is KICKIN RAD.
Fuck, my download was at 96%, I restarted steam and now I have to start from 0% again, damnit.
Yes, I know this was probably a bug that does not happen often, I'm not criticizing steam.
I'm guessing that it's 0% of the 4% you didn't download.
I'm guessing that it's 0% of the 4% you didn't download.
Sadly it does not seem so, since it's at 4% now and ain't starting.
I'll wait and see if it goes up to 5% or if it starts. And now it's DL'ing at 1.34 KB/s...
Yeah, it's the final bit. I was up to 46% yesterday and had to restart steam, when I came back it was 0%, but only 0% of the files I hadn't already downloaded.
It will go to 100% of the last files, not 4% of the 4%...

Oh ok, but still I have a feeling that this 1% left will take a lot at 2.1KB/s.
I've played it, it's good. Although I lost on both maps, it's great gameplay and graphics.
But yeah... it's a 2gig demo that downloads at 90-KBS
Can anybody record some footage of you playing the demo and then send it to me so that I can imagine that I am playing it?
:(
I'm reinstalling Medieval II because of this demo.
Need total war!

That goes so well with your avatar.
The only thing that is troubling me is the sound. So far I have only played the land battle tutorial and the sound somehow crackles.
Probably is just my headphones. But the sound is fucking sweet when you hear the cannons firing at a long distance.

I had the same crackling, especially close to my troops
2GB isn't that big. It's big to download, but not for a demo. It has to download all of the things used in each of the maps, the models for all of the units, faction stuff, menu stuff, AI, basic game rules and of course the battle engine.
Just downloaded the demo, really, really good.
PC Gamer UK were right.
I'm back!

Same here.

Takes a shitload of time to download 15% at 5-30KB/s >_>
