Someone's never played a Total War Demo before. Their fans always mod the shit out of the demos. I remember having like 1000 elephants in the Rome Total War Demo
I need to get my ass off into modding this demo soon. Some dude already changed all ships to 1st rates.
Why does the first row of people with guns not go to their knees?
Moddable. Look on that forum link someone posted earlier.
*Poland-Lithuania Hell yeah! First time I see LTU in a game! Could someone please tell me if LTU is in the demo? I'm downloadin' it right now!
You can manually unlock whatever you want in the prefs file.
Can't find it. Help?
Factions in demo: Land battle, Battle of the Brandywine, British force v American defenders Naval battle, Battle of L-Something (1760s) 5 or 6 british ships v about 4 or 5 French ships.
Can't find it. Help?
Are you on xp or vista? Basically there are files you want to find (text files) that one can easily change. I think you can simply use a txt editor to change them too. Okay, I found the file here: C:\Users\Brothers\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\EmpireDemo2\scripts It should be called preferences.empire_script.txt or something like that. Hope that helps..... EDIT: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=227327&page=1 was mentioned before, search through it and it should answer any questions.

2 days at work, come back, check out the thread. 340 posts since i last visited. I'm thinking what the fuck. Then it hits me, the demo came out.
Why is it that when I have a massive line of infantry trying to shoot the other team, they just stand there and shoot one shot and then wait about 10 minutes to fire again? Did they run out of ammo or something? They just fucking sat there.

All they had back then were muskets and handguns, which are single shot weapons. Each bullet (or rather, lead ball) has to be loaded manually into the barrel along with gunpowder, pushed down with a metal rod (which takes centuries to do in itself) then aimed and fired. Besides all that, they were incredible inaccurate and weak. If they were just standing there the whole time, it's because you have your settings really low, or it's glitching out. They should be standing there, shoving their metal rods down their barrels over and over again.

I read somewhere that soldiers shot a maximum of 5 shots in a battle anyway and went melee after that because if you shot more the enemy would already be so close you would HAVE to melee. Anyway, if it is really such a long wait it might be some mistake, did you enable Fire At Will ?
erm this isn't the 1500's
Point being? They still had crappy rifles in the 18th century.
How did you guys do the land-battle? There is a fuckload of cannons on the right side in VERY good positions, I tried to storm them while not looking at the other men but I lost a LOT of men in the river while the main part of my army took the left side and got behind them. In the end I had a HUGE battle near that townhall and didn't win because of my tactics but more because I had better troops....
Point being? They still had crappy rifles in the 18th century.
Rifles were only used by skirmishers and such. And they weren't crappy. The Ferguson rifle used by the British and the German Jaeger rifle were excellent weapons. The musket was the primary infantry weapon of the era.

I just went around the right with all my troops and completely destroyed them. I won with about 70 losses in all.
Battle conclusion screen please.
Battle conclusion screen please.
I'll do it again tomorrow. Don't feel like it right now.

Pretty simple. I don't understand how anyone could possibly have trouble winning; I even started goofing around trying things differently (like lining up 3 different units inside each other in 2 man deep ranks to let loose The Patriot style volleys, taking the units off fire at will mode and making sure they all reload before I tell them to fire again) and still managed to win.
I modded the demo a bit, gave myself 3 units of horse artillery, some long riflemen and a shitload of highlanders each with 160 men in the unit, I fucking MASSACRED the americans, also, long riflemen (in large unit numbers) have the ability to drop half an enemy unit before they even know where the fuck there getting shot at from. edit: HAH! Silly George Washington, I had my riflemen hidden in the trees, gen's bodyguard comes charging at some highlanders, riflemen open fire and ALL the bodyguard (including old georgey) drop to the ground.
Wow. They have to reload.
I know that, but they just stood there literally standing with their chin up just staring at the face of death that is 50 feet away from them.
I know that, but they just stood there literally standing with their chin up just staring at the face of death that is 50 feet away from them.
.... so they've got balls of steel? make sure "fire at will" is checked, otherwise they'll only shoot once. Also, theres nothing quite like the feeling you get when watching 64 grenades explode within the ranks of some minutemen, half of them getting blown apart then watching them shit there pants and run when they see the grenadiers charging with bayonets through the smoke.
Cripes, it isn't hard. Charging the Americans head on at the main crossing that they're clearly prepared to defend effectively, is suicide. Oh and the reason the soldiers just stand there to be shot in a nice neat line is that it was just how battles were done. They were disciplined. Armies fought traditionally by preparing on a field and facing each other neatly and officially. It wasn't until the 19th century that nations as a whole started to think "Shit, maybe it would be better if they didn't line up like that in lines" although this sort of fighting did begin during the 18th century. Tactics only changed fully in World War I, during that war soldiers were sent marching in neat rows into the welcome arms of machine guns and shells.
You guys are getting your centuries confused. 18th century = 1700s 19th century = 1800s 20th century = 1900s Welcome to the 21st century, folks.
MoW > Empire: Total War in every possible way.
MoW > Empire: Total War in every possible way.
what the hell is MoW
MoW > Empire: Total War in every possible way.
Apart from they are entirely different types of games. Empire: TW battles are more than 10 times the size of MoW battles. Empire: TW features an entirely different time period and an entirely different form of warfare. Not to mention the fact that Empire: TW has a campaign map similar to Civ 4. Go die in a fire of aids, you retard.
