You guys are getting your centuries confused. 18th century = 1700s 19th century = 1800s 20th century = 1900s Welcome to the 21st century, folks.
Isn't that basic knowledge one should already know?
Rifles were only used by skirmishers and such. And they weren't crappy. The Ferguson rifle used by the British and the German Jaeger rifle were excellent weapons. The musket was the primary infantry weapon of the era.
I saw the rate of fire of the Ferguson rifle in one of the gameplay trailers, damn quick. Just imagine one line of them mowing down line infantry.
Heres a thought: Maybe the game automatically limits the graphical settings based on how powerful your computer is? Like if it doesn't think you can handle ultra high, then it doesn't allow you to? (Maybe because this could subliminally make you think that the game can't lag, a plus for creative assembly?) Just a conjecture.
I was replying about my sound problem. The sound crackles if my volume is high enough. (And it can't be my headphones since other people have the problem too)
I decided to meet the enemy head on, throwing my entire army at them on their right flank. I distracted their artillery fire by cleverly hiding my 6 pounder guns in the forested hills where they could not hit me. Then, I slowly moved my entire army up in column formation. I got my light infantry to deal with 4 of their artillery units nearest to the river. With that done, I sent my light infantry to cut down their minutemen, militia and light infantry. They were unfortunately slaughtered by the American long riflemen who seemed appear from no where. I then sallied forth my two companies of guards. After firing several volleys into the enemy militia, they were fast to engage in hand to hand combat. Pissed, I sent in all my Hussars and a company of highlanders to help them out. Meanwhile, I move all three of my Hessians to the riverside and have two companies of line infantry, light dragoons and a platoon of Grenadiers in reserve. It didn't go so well for the Hussars and highlanders, both sides experienced heavy losses and were routed shortly after. I charged my light dragoons into the centre of their formation, giving me time to form up my Hessians on their right flank. Consequently, the American right flank immediately fell apart. In the heat of battle, I had forgotten about the artillery still up the hill on their left flank, I quickly ordered a company of Hessians to dispatch them. My soldiers experienced for the first time, canister shot, this obliterated my Hessians but they fought on and stabbed the bastards to death. I sent forth my Grenadiers and line infantry to support my Hessians, who were finishing off the 2nd line of American infantry and were about to be charged by George Washington. My Grenadiers were quick annihilate his bodyguards and kill the great general himself. After this victorious achievement, I sent my proud Grenadiers to rout the rebel artillery on the rebel's extreme right flank. I formed up and prepared for the dastardly forest hiding long riflemen to come out and fight. They were more than happy to rout what was left of my company of Hessians but were soon overwhelmed, despite their humongous range advantage. The last remaining unit on the battlefield remained hiding in the forests near the open field by the town. I raced my entire army there, expecting them to come out. Naturally, the cowardly rebel scum did not do so. I formed my entire army a stone's throw away from them. The muskets of 2 companies of line infantry, 1 platoon of Grenadiers and 2 Hessians opened fire, I ordered a charge and they were immediately routed. All in all, I suffered 700 loses. But that was fucking fun. PS: I'm really bored. Also, exams are coming up and I just thought I would practice a bit.
Just a side note, the AI is set at medium. You can change the preference files and setting it to very hard.
I wonder if you can research the dragoners to shoot while moving, that'd be awesome, they could always move from left to right and back and shoot while doing so.
Woah! I'm loving this demo! I'm already pretty good at the land battles ( Already down to only 350 losses :D ). But damn, I suck at the naval battles, each time i have a go at the demo mission i get my ass handed to me. If anyone know any good tactics, please share! EDIT: NVM just figured out how to. I just won a naval battle with zero losses :D.
I got big news about empire total war It haves Ragdoll at least some kind of ragdoll!
And did anyone notice gore in this game?
I did notice the ragdolls, not the gore.
There is no gore.
The game is either really heavy, or badly optimized. I got a q9550, 8800gtx and 6GB DDR3 and I get 30 fps at high if I'm lucky. Altough maybe it is the GPU that isn't fully up to the task. Edit: Actually, I get 20 fps at high, if I'm lucky.

Edit: @Killuah: Yeah, the drivers are up to date, I'll try again shutting down background operations and see how it works out.
I really hope that this demo is an incredibly dumbed down version of the full game. Edit: British had Ferguson Riflemen at the Battle of Brandywine. So yeah, it's currently lacking in the demo. Maybe they don't want to give away too much.

"Only in the 19th century did nations as a whole..." Victorians stopped line battles and organised warfare. "Although this type of fighting began in the 18th century", around the 1750s. Then I went on to talk about WWI, and didn't mention the century at all.
Just a little tip for anyone stuggling. Groups are VITAL for easier victories. In naval battles, group all your ships into one group straight away, and they stay in that nice line formation the whole time. This makes it much more organised, and stops you from having a hard time single handedly controlling each ship at a time. The other key thing for land battles is try and keep your squads as wide as possible to allow maximum amounts of guns to be firing at the enemy. Try and only have your squads two or tree lines deep. Enveloping works well as you again bring more guns down upon the enemy. Remember canister shot against close range units - it works wonders.
FFS double posted.
Driver-Date? Newest drivers, runs perfect on my 8800 GTS with high.
Heh, its seems that it was on ultra, not on high, anyways on high it works fine. There is probably a graphical feature that eats fps, becuase going from high to ultra strips me of nearly 25 fps.
Apparantly rushing with your troops all in melee mode is not a good tactic in the land battle... It worked in rome!!! ^This is sarcasm incase you didn't get it
Apparantly rushing with your troops all in melee mode is not a good tactic in the land battle... It worked in rome!!!
This isn't your common strategy game. Also, you're super stupid if you think rushing with melee against guns will work.

Rome was main infantry + ranged force vs enemy main infantry and ranged force with cavalry circling around the back and flanking the shit out of everyone. Medieval was very similar but there was more sending individual units out in waves. Empire is about ranged battles and some flanking and cavalry to disrupt the enemy lines.

They are crazy and the moral-impact is huge, I just would add that to what you've already said :)
