Just so you guys know, countless details were omitted from the demo to keep it at 2 gigs.
This isn't your common strategy game.
Also, you're super stupid if you think rushing with melee against guns will work.
Actually I was bored I won both battles on my first try, the naval without ship losses and the land one with 200 losses.
I'm not stupid you know.

Well how big is the game anyways?
Full game will be about 15gb.

Rome Total War was like 5 gigs or so.
Medieval was like 7-8 gigs.
The amount of stuff they have in their games is outrageous.
I just played the demo and here's my two cents:
> I can play the game with the settings maxed out fine, but the loading times are pretty long.
> The ship battles are awesome although as more and more ships are added it starts to feel a little hectic... but not in a 100% good way.
> The Historical Battles are still well harder than the main game.
> It annoys me that when you zoom in to the ground, people screaming as they die is louder than musket fire for some reason (maybe it's just my sound - I don't know).
> The quotes in the loading screens don't have quote marks (don't ask me how I noticed, and don't ask why I care!).
> I wasn't blown away by the game, but it's still good and I'm gonna definitely buy it.

I think Rome was 3 and Medieval was 4... Maybe you're just looking at your folders and seeing mods too.
someone made a good point about the quotes
where are the damn "" marks

Yeah, with all the ships moving around, the only way i managed to control them all was to put it in slow motion for the entire round (in lieu of pausing every five seconds).
> The Historical Battles are still well harder than the main game.
I think part of this reason, is because they choose the battles for historic battles, yet in the campaign, you pick your own fights :)
> It annoys me that when you zoom in to the ground, people screaming as they die is louder than musket fire for some reason (maybe it's just my sound - I don't know).
I noticed that too... maybe if you balance out the sound more, if thats possible? Like less for screaming sounds and more for shooting? On second thought, its probably all grouped as general sound effects.
Also, i think putting steam in 'offline' mode will drastically cut load time, at least thats what i heard.
they were incredible inaccurate and weak.again.
I don't think they were "weak". Brown Bess shot a .75 caliber which instead of piercing you would "push" its way thru. You'd get fucked up.

.75 CALIBER?! The biggest bullet we have today is a .50 cal...
Back then they had a small lead ball that they shot, and it was actually so weak that on contact the ball would actually be crushed flat against the guy getting shot, and the force of the bullet's shrapnel would enter the body.

but it was a fairly large lead ball.

Have you ever seen what a musket ball looks like?
Approximately the size of a marble.
Musket balls were of a diameter considerably larger than today's modern rifles - the Brown Bess fielded a caliber of more than .75", and hence the ball could cause large wounds. The smooth bore muskets of the Brown Bess period had considerable hitting power and were able to penetrate the armor of the day, but had limited accuracy due to the lack of rifling in the barrel.
And .50 caliber is the largest diameter round we use today? What the hell are you smoking?

There were many sizes, and that ball most likely eroded away. .69 and .75 were a common size. Again if you got shot by that it would most likely make a mess out of you.

You're 100% wrong.

Yeah, but consider that firing a .75 cal modern bullet with a modern weapon (sniper?) would be much more devastating than those ones.
And yes, .50 cal is the largest weapon that are not mounted (and that is effectively used), there are .75 cal handguns and prototypes of even larger snipers (more like portable autocannons), but those are either not in production yet, or are completely useless in combat (HUGE recoil) for now.
Yeah sure, the T-rex is .577, but again, they are in no way practical to be used in a war.
A .50 will do much more damage than a musket .75 ever will. Why? Because the powder charge is improved, so the .50 leaves the muzzle with much more velocity than the musket ball. The musket ball might punch a hole in your arm. A .50 will rip it off.

And we fire actual bullets too.
GOOD NEWS EVERYONE

A guy won a journey to the magazine I linked you to and was able to play it or something. Anyway, he played the game.
I will translate and summarize
- Soundbugs fixed, yes the demo has soundbugs, the fight now actually SOUND like fights
- it's hard as hell to win in the advanced KI settings, the KI is just that good
- there are many different firedrills, example: 1st row on their knees, shoots, 3rd goes to front, shoots and so on
- ships can't land everywhere, only in special zones
- KI can do much stuff, rushing, flanks, ambushes, all you wish for.
- Maximum fights is 2 vs 2

What? Only 2 vs 2? As 2 players versus 2 players MAX?
What? Only 2 vs 2? As 2 players versus 2 players MAX?
I would imagine that the number of unit cards you can have is bigger.
But still, only 2 vs 2? Is this in online or skirmish etc.?
Edit:
Also, are the different drills researchable? Or are some enabled from the beginning?
Researchable I think, he isn't quite clear about that.

You do know that we have 20mm, 30mm, and 40mm guns out there, right?
There are some sniper platforms in 20mm. And they are not completely useless in combat, and yes, they are in production and have been for a long time.

Doesn't mean that a musket ball doesn't do horrendous damage.

Yeah, but they are anti-tank, not something you should use against human targets, a .50cal will do the job just fine.

Those don't fire bullets, they fire explosive shells.

This isn't really a problem; matches with more than 2 people have the armies start out really far away from each other, so it's like fighting seperate battles anyway.
Can't wait. This is getting really annoying.
I'm working on making the battle much larger =D
