This was an incredible battle, when I first got to Prussia they kept hitting me with more and more separate units, keeping me at the seaside for a fair few turns, when I looked at the city from the overhead map I assumed it had a wall and sent one of my ships back to get a cannon.
In short, every turn another volley of Prussians would attack, I did win every attack, and eventually I had a fight with all of the platoons I hadn't entirely killed in previous battles, so I was attacked by groups of 10 and 20, that was an easy battle but ultimately I thought that I would be hit by a bigger enemy troop before I get a cannon (A stupid thought, England's only 2 turns there and back.) but ultimately I head right for the city, hoping at least that all the enemies I decimated prior would account for something.
I really thought I'd lose when I saw the figures, but I thought I'd go ahead with the fight rather than retreat, I spend the first bit of the battle hiding my line infantry and militia in a forest I started infront of, and send my horsemen (general's bodyguards.) out to lure the enemy (I only had 10 horsemen, I didn't think to much of losing them.) when getting their attention didn't work, I just decided to line my men up in between a small amount of trees and a barn, and situated them down a short hill, I'm not sure if that counts as cover in the game, either way I'm not sure if it worked, my men died like normal from gunfire.
I tried to hold the line as long as I could, one troop set up behind a small nearby wall and was trying to pick off the troop of mine that was nearest, my horsemen were on the opposite end of the map, behind the enemy, I tell my horsemen to rush up behind the wall dwellers and introduce them to the sword, my 10 horsemen take out enough of this 30 to make them run, and I only lost 1 horseman in the fight, I then tell my horsemen to retreat behind my infantry line, I hope to use this tactic to at least take out another unit.
This time a fair amount of their platoons approach, to much to risk my horsemen again, I'm hoping my line holds out, I start losing men faster than them, so I decide to just give in and send my horsemen rushing in, as they run forward all of the enemy troops run back to a distance where gunfire can't be exchanged... I have honestly no idea, I'm thankful for this but still, odd.
a minute later they approach again, after some more fire is exchanged me sending my horsemen forward works again, they pull back.
Now I really thought I was going to lose, every time they pull forward I lose more men than them, so I just think screw it, I'm going out taking as many as I can, my priority, another small force that set themselves up behind the wall, I send a men to jump the wall and then run them into the center of the field to line up for a shot at the enemy, but then all of them run forward again, it's here I decide "Fuck it." I tell all my men to attach bayonets and charge.
I send my horsemen to the men on the main side of the fence (the side facing the barnyard.) and they kill a rather large amount in their initial charge, the following bayonet charge also sets them off.
My men in the field I had forgot about when I told the rest of my troops to engage in melee, they were being attacked by a force that outnumbered them in melee, the force taking cover on the wall took notice of them and ran out into the middle of the field to start fighting, but bayonet beats no bayonet, after they win I try to send them to kill the men flanking my horsemen and pull them away.
the area inbetween the barnyard and the forest is also fighting, I'm trying to clear the enemy platoon here quickly so I can send these extra men around to deal with the largest concentration of enemy surrounding my general and the infantry already assisting him.
My troops in the field make short work of the remaining enemy, but are attacked by another small force, delaying them somewhat, doesn't matter, my general and his helpers are also having a relatively easy time, just as my men are extraordinarily outnumbered, most of the enemy begin routing, my general unfortunately dies, but the troops that killed him are soon also running for it.
I pull all my men out into the field where the last few enemy troops not running are still holding out, by this point I've got the number advantage, the remaining enemy is also quickly defeated, and I'm left dumbfounded, the charge I assumed to be my suicide rush turned out to lead me to victory.
By the way, that save button at the end of battles, please tell me that's a replay of the battle for watching, I really want to witness this battle again.
When I try to connect to 90% of online games, it says something like "Error: Player statistics not available" and returns me to the game menu. I've managed to play one 1v1 I hosted and a 2v2 by sheer chance though, both non-ranked. I think the problem is ranked games, it won't let me host them either so...
What's going on?
There is one weird thing: France is made of up of one city, whilst Germany is made of many cities - yes, I know that's the way Germany was back then, but maybe they could have split France up into multiple provinces? It doesn't really affect me I was just wondering.
:words:
it is.
it is.
Any idea where I can access the replays?

Yeah, that bothered me too. Yes, Germany was made up of a collection of small nations but not only they should have detailed regions, Alsace-Lorraine is a region, it is a small area on the border of France and Germany, yet the entire other part of France is just one chunk with one city. In previous games there were at least 3 cities in the France area. It seems only certain nations get detailed levels of regions, the Ottoman Empire has quite a few, the Mughals have lots of regions, America is made up of lots of regions... So why not major European powers?
Because no one cares about the French.
Steam is being a cock because of the fucking Team Fortress 2 Update.
Dammit, the Special Forces edition is sold out across Vancouver.
That's 14gb of .pack files to backup and unpack.
D: I just can't do it.
From what I saw in the demo, they're not in the pack files. They were under a folder called graphics or UI or something.
Because no one cares about the French.
lol, I second that.
Multiplayer match stats seem silly. You don't get a "win" when another player (forfeits) leaves! I just played my first game won it and noticed there is no stat updates because the other person disconnected. They should make leaving a forfeit. So people won't just disconnect when you're playing against them. This is going to get very annoying.
This spontaneous crashing on the campaign map is driving me nuts!
Will updating my drivers give me an FPS increase?
Possibly
Has anyone finished the Road to Independence campaign? And if you have, what year is it when you start a new campaign as the Americans?
Help?
I was playing as russia, so much fun.
Goddamn Swedes.
As Britain I own all of the Americas apart from the starting Dutch Colonies, Iroquois territory (Allies) and the Inuit/Plains nations. I also own France, Portugal, and am working on Spain, Morocco and the Barbary states.
This is all on the hard campaign settings for a world domination campaign
What kind of MP skirmishes are available? Is it only 1v1?
What kind of MP skirmishes are available? Is it only 1v1?
None, currently. Full MP Skirmishing and Campaigns are to be introduced via patches
None, currently. Full MP Skirmishing and Campaigns are to be introduced via patches
What? Why am I reading about MP matches in the steam forums and at TWcenter.com?
Are you able to take POWS in this game and add to your forces?
Help?
1776 or somewhere around that date.
That's if you play the last chapter in the Road to Independence.
god this game i love it
I'm playing the last chapter in the "Road to Independence", every god damn nation out there wants my American territories.
>:( And I'm very short of cash and am about to attack the British.
Edit:
When I did attack the British, the game crashed while I was waiting for my turn. "Insufficient memory to run game", I'm guessing it's because I have 2GB on Vista. So, adding another 2GB will probably make all my games run better.
Finally my campaign is back on track, the Persians are out of the way (AKA dead, I even pulled off a 300 on them, just that mine were 250, and theirs were 900), money is flowing in at a 8000 a turn, and no European power decided to invade me.
No crashes in the campaign here for now, it did crash in custom battles tough, and one of my friends is experiencing multiple crashes, so lets hope they release a patch soon (until then there will be a lot less players playing online).
Is there any way to rename units?
Also, I hope people will mod in units with proper bearskin caps and conflicts all the way up to Crimean War.
This is awesome.
I took Alsace and then France as British, and all of Germany apart from Prussia are protectorates.
I will invade Spain next.
