Man, I'm up to the bit after you fight on Bunker hill playing as George Washington based in Boston as your HQ.. I've managed to take the two states left and right but the amount of shit the British are throwing at me is annoying. I can't get any ships out that are any match for theirs and they usually blockade my ports and they have annoying little 1 unit armies that go and sit on my resources then run off, fucking them up until I repair them which costs money. I can sort of hold where I am now but I have a feeling doing this is going to be harder than I thought..I have to RTS most of the battles because even when fighting against 1 unit of calvary my massive army AI seems to lose 40-80 men but when I do it, I lose nothing.. Gah! Game is awesome apart from the uneccesary battles and once they stop the Grand campaign killing crashes then it will be cool.
What didn't you get about it?
How to start out, it's just so different from other tw games.
Sod it, I'm gonna give myself a hell load of cash and have veritable armies guarding all my places, and I'm gonna start again.
Conquer Quebec and the Northern or Something first, that will give you peace at this side + 3 farms and 2 fur trade thingies and a good harbour.
I'm not really sure what to think of this game. I got it today and I want to like it, but for some reason it just doesn't feel right. Probably because I don't get the campaign at all
Well, if you decide you don't like it, I'll gladly trade you some keys; I've got a couple games (Common ones like Battlefield 2, Silent Hunter III, etc) that I don't enjoy as much as I thought I would and I'd gladly do a 2 for 1 trade kinda thing.
I've 'survived' quite well, without any cheats. Like others posted, I just built up my farms and such in the beginning, then allied/trade partnered with France, Spain and United Provinces. This way I focus on Britain in the north. One strategy I've tried, is if you just took a city you know is going to be attacked like shit, then sell it to an ally. They will like you more, perhaps give you some thing too, and also you then have an ally in the area to help you, and if it gets destroyed, so what. Just wondering, do you guys find it morally ok to load up saves if a battle goes to hell, or do you always accept the concequences? EDIT: Out of curiosity, how much do you guys tax your people? I set it to full taxes, and just exempt newly taken towns. This way, I'm gaining about 35 thousand gold each turn, and I can just buy stuff like technology from allies if i want it.

Prussia are stubborn bastards, I go to war with them because they attacked Poland, so I cut off their entire source of income. Didn't go for peace, so I tried paying them with money and tech, no peace. I take over Berlin, I offer it back with money and tech for peace, no peace. I muster an army and take their asses over. I'm at war with Spain now, took over Madrid, just need to destroy the rest of the enemy forces in the area and take Gibraltar, then Flounders (They took it in a war with France.) After Spain is mine, I'm going to follow up on the war that the Huron tribes declared on me, and expand in America. Then I will focus on Hanover and other German states...

For some reason, any fort that I ever attack never has any enemies actually defending the fort itself. I've never had a god damn siege battle because they all just run out and try to get me on the other side of the battlefield where I am. I kill everyone before I even get to the fort. any reason for this? Oh, and don't fight in really bad weather. Slowest fucking battle ever.
So, is anyone still gifting this thing? Or was that whole gift even real in the first place? For people with the game... Overall, would you guys say this is easier or harder to win at? (talking about the battles)

Seiges are just like random battles for me for some reason so I can't comment on that.
Land battles are only hard if you're clearly outnumbered. I just make sure I keep on eye on all enemy movements so I don't get fucked in the ass.
I just remember in the old medieval ones that if you had cavalry with a few swordsmen you could beat basically every enemy force. Just tie up their spearmen with the swordsmen and run around the back with cavalry.
Fucking hell the french where annoying today. I took over there fort and had 700 men left after the battle. I decided to keep the fort and rebuild and reinforce my army oh fuck no french decided to attempt to stick me in the ass. They send 1400-1480 units at me and i won and only lost 60 units and killed 1406 units. I think oh good when i attack there main city it would be over easy. Next turn i get hit with 1800-90 units and lost 170 units and killed 1800 of them then they just sent 300 units at me two rounds later. 20 or so turns later i fucked them up the ass with 2500 units. TIP: FORTS CAN MEAN LIFE OR DEATH
They don't when you blitzkrieg with 5-6 armies in all directions. (On the map.)
I completed Road to Independance earlier today, I found it an easy intoduction to the game, personally. If you are having trouble with the naval battles... capture Newfoundland since (atleast in my game) there was a Drydock there, so I churned out some 3rd rates and 4th rates. By that point I had already dominated the sea anyway, using fleets of 6th rates to sink the enemy (and capturing afew enemy SOLs in the process) and sloops/brigs to blockade ports and privateer. On the Grand Campaign as the Dutch, I've taken Austria, Bavaria, Hanover, Wootenburg(?) Prussia, Denmark and Poland-Lithuania already, and I'm at war with the Spanish now. It is only turn 60 aswell, so no major revolutions or anything have happened. I also played as the Maratha confederacy and that was really fun, especially having elephants as your generals bodyguard. I think I'm going to play British next, as the British did in real life. Here is a tip for the grand campaign. Get lots of traders and get them in every trading spot. One ship can earn you hundreds and hundreds each turn.
heh... I started a new campaign as the Marathas Empire around 10pm, look at clock now and 4am D: These guys are quite awesome too, camel and elephant charges are always fun, have all of india now and make over 20k a turn but i really lack a naval force. I have 5 ships total D:. Just need to finish off the Persians and see who declares war after those are gone...
This is what I call a Regiment! (Yes, 1200 Line Infantry)
How the fuck?
Merging together an entire army of line infantry into a single unit?
Except I don't give myself eleventy billion dollars so i can steamroll them, I just give myself enough so that i can have a start where I'm not reduced to a couple of men in a few turns.
Maybe you should just get better at the game rather than cheating?
How the fuck?
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=232113 Is the best explanation on how to do it.
Merging together an entire army of line infantry into a single unit?
Nope, look again at the unit card.
Maybe you should just get better at the game rather than cheating?
Kinda hard to get better when I don't get even the smallest of breaks. Also, that's small, check out this thread. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=234528 40,000 men onscreen
This game is greatly optimized running all high at 1680x1050 with 4xaa i can handle 6k units on screen. even more at 30-40 frames.
It apparantley though doesn't utilise dual cores.
Gah. I'm playing as Spain. I've gotten New Spain, and i've conquered all of the playable area of South and Central America. I'm powerful and wealthy. But NO ONE will trade with me. I literally only have three trade partners, and one of them took a region, all my tech, five thousand gold, and unlimited military access to get. Even very friendly nations, and nations in my own alliance. This is getting annoying. If I could get some trading partners, i'd be unbelievably wealthy. Wealthy enough to take down the British, at least, which is my ultimate goal.
Nobody likes Spain because they're a bunch of Catholic cunts.
Easier said than done really, as to buld up my forces to be able to take them on, I need money, and with my shit getting raided every turn, I can't get enough of it. Especially since with inferior technology, you really need superior numbers, which, as i said, I can't get. I usually end up getting attacked from 3 directions at once, left, top and right. I ended up using a trainer because I got sick of it, while it helped with getting units, mine still get owned due to the technological advances the brits have and my navy is utter shit too.
Lay down your arms and surrender to the British. It's the only way you'll make it out alive. Also, just station a single unit in your docks. It should keep the ships away, as they can't dock if there is a land army there.
Has the all factions unlocker been posted here yet?

As the USA.
