Well, found a way to get past the trade issue, and make a ton of money in the Americas without losing a single unit of troops.
Massive, lump sums of money.
I've literally bought myself trading partners and about half of the Americas now. Just finished off the Cherokees too, but I took the worst losses i've ever had in a battle. The indians SPAWNED behind my units even though both our armies (two of mine versus two of theirs, all full strength) were side by side. So, I lost both my best generals, and most of my units. The bright side was that I didn't lose many entire units, so I was able to reinforce eventually, but the loss of the generals was a hard hit, especially as I'm planning to start fighting the British, although just buying out their territories has been working well so far.

Yea those indians are pesky! Managed to conquer just about all of North America...wiping out the emergant USA in the process too. Need to start concentrating on my navy now though because the french/spanish/swedes have decided it would be fun to blockade my ports...grrr!

Same here i have been playing for like what 3-5 hours now and i have had only 1 crash because i set grapichs too high.Also loving this game very much 12 cannons rock the hell out of everything whit Canister shots
Bah, just tried playing it scince the patch. I still get the game crash when it's a certain AI's turn time.
I guess I'll just have to start again but I hope I don't get far in and have it happen to me again or I'll be really annoyed.
Hmm for any of you people running the game in a language other than english, apparantly they've fucked up the patch or something so just right click on your game in the my games list, go to properties and then change the language to whatever yours should be. It should then download the patch again and actually work.
There's too many game breaking bugs and crashes and multiplayer major fuckups right now. I'm gonna stop playing until they patch it.

Looking at their forums, they've fucked up the patch..would actually like to play games I purchase but nowadays it seems there's always waiting for a patch before I can.

How unfortunate that you have to have your graphics settings so low >_< Doesn't do the game justice at all...
Well, my game is in English by default and it wouldn't start, seeming there's a fix for other languages by changing it from English, to their language I tried doing the opposite. Put my startup language as German, steam downloaded game files/the update and now my game starts, the campaign still crashes on the AI's turn however..
I will try changing my language back to English now to see if the game starts, well tomorrow I will. I have work in 5 hours and I still need to sleep!
I can't wait to get me a new computer.... I'm running this game on medium, I'll imagine that ultra high (or whatever its called) looks simply beautiful :) oh well...

Quite high because the grand campaign are where most of the bugs are at.
Road to independence is steaming with bugs. haven't tried grand campaign but it probably has more.
Pretty sad because this game is fucking excellent and made me finally appreciate the Civilization series.
