This is my first total war game too..
This is my first total war game too..
Because you only play FPS i guess.
Nope, I play lots of RTS games, FPS games a few RPG games (rarely) and Combat flight sims. It's just because I bought other RTS games that I thought were similar so I never bothered buying them, such as Age of Empires and what not. If I had known that the games were similar to this then of course I would've bought them but I simply hadn't heard of them. :)
Why is everyone so surprised that not all have played TW games? I have played them all since Shogun, but I still play many other FPS, RPG and RTS, I wouldn't be surprised if someone hadn't played any of them since there are many other games out there (few as good as TW, but you get what I mean).
Also next patch is scheduled for today.
Good to hear. At least CA isn't sitting on their collective asses.
Rome: Total War is the most epic.
total war is not like the usual RTS so if you're looking for something different this is the game... just look up the total war series on wikipedia... there's the info you need... or watch the IGN video review
I like Empire more then Rome now. More tactic, bigger camping and sea battles.
Haha, I parked one of my ships in an instant action sea battle on top of some sailors from a previous sunken ship, just to see if mine picks them up. Turns out it doesn't. And the sailors bobbing on the water clip right through the ship's bottom:
Also next patch is scheduled for today.
Great news. I thought CA said they were delaying it until next week. Mind you, they may just be fixing some of the things that the last patch broke. We'll see. EDIT: Looks like it may just be a fix for some bugs in the German and Polish versions that popped up after the patch. Nothing for the end of turn CTD.
This is my first total war game too..
Damn, I feel old now, I've played every single TW game, except for MTW, from Shogun all the way up to Empires and with all the expansions too. Sprite Samurai's ftw.
God, I always saw Total War games in the shops and never bought them, and honestly don't remember why! I can't believe how much i missed out on!
I wish that they'd remake Shogun and Rome on the Empires engine.
I wish that they'd remake Shogun and Rome on the Empires engine.
They will, unless they decide to go WW1 or 2 in the next, they don't have many more epochs to do.
Since my British campaign kept crashing, I started a new one as the Russians. Right now the situation is as follows: I'm currently at war with the Ottoman Empire, as the Russians start the game at war with them. However we have had no conflicts with each other. Attempts to gain peace with them have been turned down. I got under a disagreement with Sweden. We are currently at war. They have been busy raiding my farms and economy centers in the north west. However, my northern army has been successful in thwarting their attempts to disrupt my economy. They have sent three armies in so far - all of which have disappeared in the Russian territory, and never will come home. ;) Currently active military opertations include; To the north, defense of Russia from the Swedes. To the south, active military opertations in an attempt to establish a port in the Black Sea to increase trade and establish a better economy. So far, both campaigns are successful. We're holding out in the north, and my push south to the Black Sea has been contested, but my enemy has been ground down. We're currently holding a port city under siege and expect to take it soon. Future plans include... Once the port has been secured and the region defended to keep our port and defend the trade lines, I plan on concentrating my efforts northward and begin an invasion of Swedish territories in response to their constant raids.
Russia is way too easy just blitz the Ottoman mainland cities (Belgrade etc), ask for peace in request of Ankara and bam, you're set for the rest of the game. And then make trade agreements with everyone. Seriously, make some line infantry and storm the Ottomans. They have little to no defence, while doing this you can just wipe out Georgia and the other little annoyances.
How can you not have played a Total War game?
No. The only RTS games that I've played (that I remember) are Starcraft and the Age of Empires series
They will, unless they decide to go WW1 or 2 in the next, they don't have many more epochs to do.
The Creative Assembly are a bunch of smart people. I trust them not to make a WW1 or WW2 game unless they've figured everything out. I'm glad they're working on the Napoleonic era. :) Hopefully we'll see remakes of previous games.

Or at least they were until I sent an entire fleet of second rates to scuttle their galleys.
I haven't had a single crash yet. Also I'm sort of surprised that some haven't played a total war game, I mean come on.
I haven't had a single crash yet.
Continue playing, the crashes/freezes will come (unless you are really lucky), it's just that for some they come sooner, for some later. It took me nearly 15 hours of grand campaign to get to were the crashes start. Ofcourse it's not completely sure that it will crash at all. Edit: Yeah I know, I'm sounding like one of those pessimist always foretelling doom and despair...
I'm on 1785 on my English file.
Oh well, I'll keep quiet and stop foretelling crashes then.
Arrived a day early, installing now, but it thinks I already had it installed, even though I had made sure that both the demo, and Medieval 2 were uninstalled first. What do I do about this?
No. The only RTS games that I've played (that I remember) are Starcraft and the Age of Empires series
Oh lord, I beesech you, go out and get RTW/BI/Alexander, M2TW and Ground Control (GC isn't a TW title but what the hell, it;s fantastic, you can also get it free off fileplanet)
I was playing as The Netherlands and i took over England.. Have to admit the English people are pesky protesters xD

Lucky bastard.
Just progress in the grand campaign and it will start to crash/freeze, I think it depends on how much RAM you have, at least looking at what people say it would seem so, I got to 1778 or something with 6GBs.
I got to 1800 with 2GB and the game is still working perfectly.
Help, I click to run it in steam, and nothing happens, Empire.exe pops up in task manager for half a second, then vanishes. Should I just wait for the patch, or is there something I can do? EDIT: Nvm, worked after I restarted steam.
