My perfect army is 3/4 line infantry 1/4 Fergusson riflemen.

No cavalry?
How do I install the blood and smoke mods? I put them in the data folder like it told me to but they didn't apply.
Create a .txt file in your scripts directory where your preferences are saved (Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts on XP) named user.empire_script.txt and in that type "mod patch_mod_smoke.pack;" without quotes and save then launch the game.
Anyone other than me gettinga huge lag spike when selecting the prussian army that starts off on the map (lead by Alexander something)
How come he has to do that but I don't?
How am I meant to know that?
When do you get to use the deployable defenses in battle?
When do you get to use the deployable defenses in battle?
If I'm not mistaken, it's when an enemy (the army inside of the sieged town) attacks your sieging army.
How am I meant to know that?
In other words, how did you know to do that?
If I'm not mistaken, it's when an enemy (the army inside of the sieged town) attacks your sieging army.
If I'm not mistaken either, when the enemy attacks any of your armies that have been idle for a couple of turns indicated by the wooden stakes surrounding them.

Aaaahhh, I was wondering what those meant. That seems the likely answer.
When do you get to use the deployable defenses in battle?
If you don't move your army for a few turns, you'll know when spikes appear around it on the campaign map. It also works if you leave them in a city for a few turns, then the city is attacked.
From a thread on TWC about creating a mod (and I logically applied it to downloaded mods)
Ok, I got it working.
I have just found the usefulness of skirmishers, in 2 unit vs 2 unit battle I have a skirmisher and a line infantry, then have my skirmishers harass hem into my main line.
Build pleasure gardens, they keep your shit happy.
fuck em, their love of the empire will keep them happy enough (also their love of Dragoons)
By the way, you can also deploy defenses if you are being sieged but don't have any town fortifications.
Ok, I am going out and buying this game right now. This thread has inspired me.
FUCK, I saved over my world domination save because most recent save don't go to the top, I want to fucking shoot someone, so i don't have the crashes but other stupid things
One thing I like doing is random quick battles with over the top amounts of units, and I just discovered how awesome shrapnel shot is.
I had a full stack of 24lber cannons in an upside down V formation, and three enemy line infantry groups.
I didn't really know what shrapnel shot did so I tested it out, and on the first successful hit it took out 20 troops in one blow. The full stack of cannons firing, it was devastation.
Anyone tried first person view from rocket units... its insane!! I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

Haha wow, i've noticed bullet following when first person viewing infantry before, but never tried it on artillery.
I really wish they improved it for some units though, especially ships. I don't want to see the inside of the huge ships, there's nothing to see. I often find myself positioning one small ship in my fleet so that I can watch the whole battle from the deck of that one ship. But you really ought to be able to look around or switch units.
Other than that though, I love it. I can't wait until some mods come out to fix some of the most common problems.
Also, I just had a Spanish empire reach 1796, with a 150k income per turn and a total amount of like 3 million gold. Now i'm crashing. I did find out that my strategy of buying out regions and techs with massive amounts of gold has a huge downside. I'm now conquering some of the countries I bought from, and they all seem to be fielding absurd amounts of full strength armies. Hrm.

Most likely they took your gold and said "k thanks we'll build a huge ass army now"
yeah that's why I didn't do that
How exactly does research and technology work? I mean, what the hell are research points? I upgraded Cambridge but it didn't seem to do much at all. I can only research one thing at a time and technologies take the same length of time to research, I think.

Stick gentlemen in the university, research faster.

I got me motherfuckin' Newton in there. All research ought to be instantaneous. (lol, calculus what)
Anybody using Darth's mod and Quixote's combat mods?
Anybody using Darth's mod and Quixote's combat mods?
Explain what those do.
Darth mod improves AI and makes the game even more playable.

Explain.
