I've got a noob question. Is there a way to change governments?
I'm playing as India and my peasants don't like me for having a monarchy.

purposely set off riots and wait a while.

Manually jack the taxes to maximum for whatever social class you want to piss off. The riots and revolution should come within a few turns.
I'm playing as Spain. I am fucking super rich. Im steam rolling Austria for trying to lay claim to my throne. One huge army is owning them, and two more huge armies are on their way.
Lots of riots, it's been about 8 turns but still not revolution. Am I doing it right?

It must be a revolt in your capital, let the rebels live for some turns and you will be asked to join them or side with the government.

Thats Ironic, Spain tried to take my throne when I played Austria :P
Oh well it doesn't matter I won anyways. Chalk up one victory for Dryer in Empire Total War, India on easy.
Sounds like such a challange you're playing with there.
I think the hardest part was waiting for the victory screen to roll around after I completed my objectives in 15 years.
I hate Courland, bastards attacked me as Prussia just when I invaded Sweden, once I'm done with Sweden, I'm going to utterly destroy those fuckers.
[tab]I love playing as any Indian nation

They did not attack me i smacked them after i had russia, russians really should not have be friends with norvegians...
I downloaded a trainer and took over Europe as Russia by only using those close combat units with axes.
Was so awesome when I met a huge French army completely consisting of Cannons and Line infantry, the sight of 3000 Russian troops charging against 2000 Rifles and Cannons was just crazy.

I love Spain.
At one point I had over 3 million gold, with a 150k income per turn. Was quite nice.
The Surrender option when you besige a town is seriously broken, 3 town militia units vs my General, 4 Cavalry, 4 Sakers and 10 Line infantry regiments and they don't surrender? The fuck.

Well, I had like 3,000 men versus ~160 and they didn't surrender. It's kinda annoying, but maybe you have to wait a turn or two before pressing the surrender button. But that makes the entire button useless tbh, because you can just assault the town and win with barely any losses at turn 1 instead of waiting a turn or two to make them surrender.

See, I'm pretty sure that once I had the option to besiege a city, it told me how many turns until their surrender but usually on that turn they refuse surrender and always some how attack my forces seiging them.
When it's my city that's under seige, there's no way I can tell my garrison to attack the seiging forces, the only way to break the seige is to either surrender or attack with another army..
How do you use indian trade ships?
You gotta move them to a trade theatre and occupy a trading zone with them.
What's a trading zone?
If you move them to the edge of the map, you'll see rectangles. Put them in there, and it'll let you mvoe your ships to any of the continents, or a trading zone. (Trading zones are indicated on the selection map as small circular regions around the map.) There are four I think.
East Indies, Ivory Coast, Straits of Madagascar, and the Coast of Brazil. If you move your ships there you'll find circles with anchors in them. Put a trading ship (Indiaman ships or Galleons as far as i've seen) in the circle, and you'll automatically get a very good amount of money from trading the stuff there. Ivory Coast is great for, you guessed it, ivory. (Usually highest worth trade item.)
However, other nations usually grab them VERY early on, so it's pretty hard to get a foothold in a region without declaring war on quite a few people. Watch for pirates, too.
Thanks! =)
got some details on the next patch

What armies does everyone use? Mine are:
General
4 Cavalry
4 Cannons
10 Line Infantry
as my main Campaigning army, Cannons front and centre, line infantry just behind them, hold fire off, cavalry split into 2 sets of 2's at each side and my general safe in the rear.
Once the enemy tries to get close, I move my infantry forward, auto fire on, just in front of my cannons, i switch them to hold fire and let my line infantry do the word, I use my cavalry to stop flankers and to take out enemy cannons.

I don't ever really make a conscious effort to make my units like that, but actually that's pretty much what I do. I do tend to add more cannons occasionally though, since as you get farther into the game your elite units can handle a LOT more.
What type of cannons do you all use? (And cavalry?)
I tend to stick to a mortar, a rocket or two, and one or two 24 lb foot cannons. I used to like howitzers, but i've found they aren't quite as effective as foot artillery. It is a bit of a pain to position foot artillery where you won't shoot your own troops though. Rockets aren't that effective either (on land- at sea they're amazing) but they cause a huge hit to morale and if you fire them into the main mass of an army they're BOUND to hit something. Plus they look cool.
Depends on what time period my Campaign is in.
As for Cavalry, I'll use the Regional Cavalry (Not the Provincial ones) and for cannons, well, early game is usually sakers.
I don't just build my army like that, I also name it, so an army will be named from the area they recruited from.
For instance, my Primary army for Prussia comes from Berlin, so I'll have it is
I Berlin Cavalry
II Berlin Cavalry etc etc
I Berlin Rifles
II Berlin Rifles etc etc
same with my cannons, except with these I give names to like:
I Berlin Artillery "Hansel"
II Berlin Artiller "Gretel"
etc etc
Naming them makes you feel more attached to them, so you don't risk them as much and when they accomplish something, you feel great.
in all my gamign combined so far, I've lost 6500 or so men, compared to the 16500 that they've killed.
