Ha, just destroyed my friend in guerrilla tactics. He had a unit of fully upgraded guards, I had a unit of line infantry and a unit of fergusson rifle men, I said it was a 1 card vs 1 card battle. I placed my line infantry in the back, and my fergussons in the front, hiding in the grass. He marched to my men thinking victory. I ambushed his ass with the riflemen, then fell back behind my lines. I fired one rank volly at them, then charged. My line infantry was destroyed, then I continued to shoot and run away with the fergusson riflemen. I didn't lose a single riflemen, they lost their guards.
You sir are no gentleman.
Quick question: How does assembling an army around a general work? Do you have to que the units up in the various regions around him and then move them to him, or can you do it directly from the general, or...?
You can do either, but doing the various units around him (more than one city) makes you have an army faster.
You sir are no gentleman.
troop positioning and having ace-in-the-holes to whip out are 3/4 of a victory head to head slugfests is not how a gentleman does things
Telling your friend it's a 1 card vs 1 card and then having a second card is unsporting old bean.
troop positioning and having ace-in-the-holes to whip out are 3/4 of a victory head to head slugfests is not how a gentleman does things
Actually that's exactly how it was. Anyway. I just had a good battle with the French as the British. Started using the artillery shot follower, and got this nice picture of the French army marching towards me. You can see another shell from the barrage slightly to the left and down of the center. Unfortunately, it crashed as the shrapnel from the shell started to emerge, so I had to do it again. Still won pretty easily though. Brand new army.
Telling your friend it's a 1 card vs 1 card and then having a second card is unsporting old bean.
oh you're talking about cards as in troop cards I was thinking of it more like "my army goes in straight forward with no tricks while your army comes at me straight forward"
There was tricks! I had a super secret rifle squad in the middle, which ambushed the dudes, then I used shoot and run to defeat him, I'll post the replay if I could figure out where they save.

Actually gamereplays has a pretty good E:TW section, I got my multiplayer unit setup from there.
10 mortars and 10 line infantry. No joke, you can defeat any vanilla AI with that. When I actually have to try to win say with Darths mod. 2 Mortars 2 Calvalry 9-10 Line Infantry 5-6 Grenadiers <- Work wonders to throw grenades while the line is in melee. This combo never fails and it good for attack, defend and siege.
What do you guys think, round shot, canister shot, or explosive shells?
Where's your light infantry? They have range, and can cloak on some terrain, some of them can even move and shoot from cloak, allowing for some killer ambushes. In terms of artillery, for howitzers and mortars, always explosive/percussion shells, for cannons, shrapnel shot. Only other thing I use is round shot for breaking walls/buildings, Lime and Carcass shot are utterly useless. Canister is good at close range, but shrapnel shot supersedes it when you research it.
What do you guys think, round shot, canister shot, or explosive shells?
shrapnel shot round shot is useless for anything that isn't buildings
What do you guys think, round shot, canister shot, or explosive shells?
Explosive for long range, canister when they get to close, also, I fucking LOVE howitzers & mortars with explosive rounds, just watching the bodies fly everywhere when a round explodes right in the middle of an enemy unit.
I love Spain. At one point I had over 3 million gold, with a 150k income per turn. Was quite nice.
How the fuck?! Did you upgrade all income buildings? Or what?! And what difficulty?

Everyone watch Prince Of Madedon's vids on youtube. He also has some good Rome: Total War ones as well.
Baww, no update for me yet. I restarted steam :(
Everyone watch Prince Of Madedon's vids on youtube. He also has some good Rome: Total War ones as well.
yeah and good way to learn some tactics too
Hes a very good player and explans what he does and why he does it.
Update still doesn't fix the turn CTD bug with Great Britain. In fact, it just does it on Persia now instead of the Inuit. I'm amusing myself with the American Grand Campaign...but still this is getting silly.
Yay, this patch has fucked my game some more! Now when I go to the load menu, everything is all grayed out and I have to task manager to get rid of the game, super! I'm not the only one having this problem either.
Tried to play just now, but the whole map was fucked up and things stretched into fucking everywhere. Don't know if It'll happen again. haven't had the pacience to try
Wait, so this patch fucked things up more?
Wait, so this patch fucked things up more?
Not had a chance to test it! :( Getting a bit twatty now, it's been ages scince I've played this game but I can't do anything till they sort this thing out.
How the fuck?! Did you upgrade all income buildings? Or what?! And what difficulty?
I had every single region in the Americas and a good amount of trade zones. (Five to seven, I think, mostly trading ivory.) This was very, very late game (In the 1780s and 90s when I hit 3 million) so I had pretty much fully upgraded ports, plantations, and every thing else. It was normal difficulty.
Woo the new update didn't fix my bug and, I'm really addicted to it.
