I've actually started playing Rome: Total War again because loading and waiting for your turn in this game takes so fucking long :/
I would've loved to, but as I said, steam locked up and task manager was not responding. I restarted my computer, managed to start the installation, and as soon as it was done unpacking and starting, it bluescreened.
you neet either a reformat or new hardware, cuz either your os is damaged or your hardware is mildly fried.
Fuck that. External drive, laptop, 1 hour 30 minutes of file transfer off the dvds later and i've got it installed.
Playing as the natives is awesome, the fact you can sneak up on your enemies is fairly negated by low income and long recruitment times.
I really hope the turn times are made a bit faster...
Is anybody else getting CTDs when declaring war on minor nations/factions? If so, does anybody know how to fix it?

yeah the only issue i have with this game is loading times in general they take the piss.
I started a new campaign as the pirates now.
It's pretty fun, but you can't recruit anything other than the bucaneers (which are swordsmen), and only 8, so I must play very carefully. Since I only can have eight, I must try to get them to the highest rank possible, it's my only hope of actually doing something, so every last one of my units is damn important.

My game crashed when I declared war on the United States as Great Britain in 1707. The Iroquois captured New York, then in the next turn, New York turned into the United States. It probably crashed because the United States isn't supposed to become a nation untl 1740-1750.

This is a hilarious idea and I am so trying it.
I'm playing as Georgia at the moment, plan on recreating an eastern christian empire. They're pretty hard to get going because of lack of funds, trade routes and being surrounded by enemies, but they have some good units and the regions are quite resource rich. The biggest pain is keeping control of the islamic provinces after they've been captured -_-
Mine tracks stats, just go ingame and click on multiplayer and click on Player Stats, or do you mean showing up on your steam page etc?
... Hmm I just rechecked and stats are there, guess It's solved :3:
Had an epic sea battle just now, two relatively large fleets duked it out. I ended up winning but with nasty casualties, only a 2nd rate, a 4th rate and a heavy 1st rate (demasted) survived out of the battle with bad damage each.

I've never had a large sea battle on campaign yet, most was when I had two 2nd rates and 3 rocket ships vs about 6 others :l

When I invaded the pirate settlements they had a lot of guns, but maybe they were just the "firelock armed citizenry" of pirates. When I attacked there were about 12 citizen units defending the pirate settlement.
I've thought of playing a pirate game, could be interesting. Having your army limited to less than a stack at all times doesn't sound great though.
I'm quite good at sea battles though. I manage to take minor damage usually, and sometimes I capture a couple of ships. Earlier on I managed to capture all 14 Indiamen in a Spanish fleet with 2 Sloops, a 6th Rate and a 5th Rate. Parking that newly captured trade fleet on a spice trading post netted me about 5000 a turn.
I'm playing with Quixote's stuff and it doesn't seem that it doesn't have the 8 unit pirate limit. So I'm using my swashbucklers like a swarm of bees.

Yeah, I hink I remember gun wielding pirates too. But untill now I havn't seen any.
It's a bit hard with only half a stack, and I don't know how I will be able to attack larger cities, let alone Europe...
Also I need to get a school/university, I really need the naval technologies.

I'm limited to 10 (I'm using not any mods), I just found out that I had 2 units waiting in a city.
But those 10 are getting really good at it (I also have 2 generals, so I have some cavalry).
But I think I will be forced to DL a mod to remove the limit later, I can't even think of attacking France with what I have now.
Note for several of the above:
I really hope the turn times are made a bit faster...
You can set up your campaign options to not display any foreign turns. It scrolls through the flags without showing movements, and cuts turns to 5-20 seconds. It still displays enemy movements in your territory and around your movements so you won't suddenly find the enemy is in your base, killing your chaps.
Just hit escape and options.
Did they ever fix the memory leak with the campaign map?
Yes
How do you guys make 4 turns for 1 year?

A mod.
A link to an index of all mods was posted in the last page I think.
Edit:Actually, it's in RayvenQ's post some posts ago.

I was playing a siege battle against a friend, he was going to be sneaky and end the game quickly so he spammed cavalry and put all of it outside the fort...
Well the charges routed many fo my units but one unit managed to get up on the walls of the fort and... capture it hense locking my friend out from his own fort.
I was trying to start an empire as the Hurons, so I allied with all the other Indian nations except for the Cherokees and Iroquois, and I allied with Britain. I captured upper and lower Lousianna, New Spain, and New Guatemala, but I got bored and frustrated with constant rebellions in my hard earned colonies, so I quit. I'll probably try to destroy all of New Spain with the Pirates in the next game.
That's it, this topic has convinced me I need it :O

God fucking dammit I hate the Huron, they always declare war on me then fuck around with the one piss poor defenseless colony Britain gets in Canada, at the moment though, I have a massive army headed up there to exterminate the fuckers once and for all.

Actually, the Indian factions aren't as annoying as they are when you don't play as them. Their melee troops are cheap to recruit and are incredibly effective in melee combat. The only problem about playing as them though is they don't have much money, can only build Indian-related buildings, and can only build trade ships for fleets.

Probably, I wouldn't be able to play as the Indians though, doesn't suit my play style at all, probably because my play style involves riflemen, elite line infantry, heavy cannons, and heavy horsemen.

Indians have the heaviest cannon (64 Pounder) and the heaviest cavalry (elephants).
