I tried the free version but i apparently didn't have any of the bullshit software it requires to run installed.
These guys also made the blocky water simulation thing, I don't know the name though. [editline]26th September 2011[/editline]
I tried the free version but i apparently didn't have any of the bullshit software it requires to run installed.
the read-me has download links.
Also, you can try it out with the lite version wich is always a month outdated, if you want it directly you must buy it.
I love to idea of creating massive floating fortresses traveling in open space. BUT a lite version? Meh, if I only paid once, then maybe I'd buy it. But not yearly. [editline]26th September 2011[/editline] Plus, minecraft will either be there, or be modded there soon enough.
The thing i like in this is how the ships and the asteroid each have their own center of gravity, so if you got to the asteroid you rotate with it, but if you move far enough away it spins on it's own.
Just read they are gonna make the lite version up to date with the main game and they will maybe change the payment way.
maybe? I'm sure they'll do so fast enough with this amount of sales.
I've learned to stop buying games before they're finished. No thanks.
This could end up being really good, but that pricing model is so goddamn dumb.
This could end up being really good, but that pricing model is so goddamn dumb.
Yeah, I found this game just only today, I'm also really dissapointed in that pricing model, but I'm sure this game is gonna be great.
Yeah, I found this game just only today, I'm also really dissapointed in that pricing model, but I'm sure this game is gonna be great.
I am curious as to what makes this seem great to you? All i've seen is minecraft without the mine and with guns. It's so early in development that there's ahardly any notable feature that would indicate great potential.
Tried the lite version, upon running it just instantly terminates with the Windows "application has encountered an error" dialog. I have NET Framework 4 and XNA Framework 4. Specs: Core i7 640 @ 2.8 MHz 4096 MB of RAM Nvidia NVS 3100 M (should be more than enough, can play games like Company of Heroes on High) -edit- Oh, nevermind, for some reason I thought OP was one of the developers. I'll go post this on their forums.

I don't understand why I can pre-purchase but all it does is take 50% off release one and gives me a demo. This is not how pre-purchase works.
It's so early in development that there's ahardly any notable feature that would indicate great potential.
So what i said about it isn't good then?
I don't understand why I can pre-purchase but all it does is take 50% off release one and gives me a demo. This is not how pre-purchase works.
At the moment its just a way to support the developers, later its gonna give you more features.
I don't want to support developers who charge on a yearly basis for updates that should be free. I can see charging for DLC. But from what I gathered they are charging every year for plain game updates, right?
Yeah charging yearly is a dick move, no way around that fact. They should have gone with the minecraft model which is perfectly reasonable, it's not like it's untested because a few other indie devs also have a payment scheme like that. Also the game looks horribly unfinished in it's current stage, the premise is VERY cool but right now it doesn't look really impressive.
So what i said about it isn't good then?
Hmm yeah that's interesting. I didn't find this effect when i tried the demo though.
I'm playing the Week 20 Version, not the Week 12, so it's probably an added thing, i dunno.
huh did you pay? [editline]26th September 2011[/editline] I can only choose that W12
I don't really like their pricing model, but I understand it. You can't pay multiple developers full time for many years if only sell a couple thousand copies at 10$. They'd have to charge significantly more than 10$. Minecraft can only be so cheap because it's so popular. Also, how many 70$ games do you know that are so awesome that you'll still want to play it after a year? Very few, and this only costs a small faction of them.
huh did you pay? [editline]26th September 2011[/editline] I can only choose that W12
Why do i keep feeling like people are ignoring me. :(
I think i accidentally just bought it for a dollar.
sorry :(
I sent the guys an email containing many replies from this thread. I hope you don't mind. :smith:
On Mon, 26 Sep 2011 21:22:10 +0100, Blazingfly wrote: The game sounds sweet and all, but why the strange payment model? Pay every year and get a chunk of the game? Word of your game is spreading through internet forums/social sites alike, and while the general reactions have been positive, reactions to the pricing model have been largely negative. People see it as paying full price for ..part of a game. A couple of reactions gleaned from a thread: "The game is 10 dollars, its pretty cheap, but its a shame you have to rebuy it every release, but you will get a bigger and bigger discount each release you buy." "The game is being released in yearly parts and you have to pay for each of them!" has a reply of "lost interest here, sorry" with 41 'agrees'." "We'll sell you that game in a few easy installments of a payment that should be paid once." "I would never pay for something this amateur. I'm absolutely all for indie developers coming out with creative projects like this, but there's just no way I'm going to pay for it until it's proven itself. Look at Ace of Spades, that game is great but I would never have paid for it, cause for all I knew it could have been shit." - Nine agrees. "Rather ridiculous payment scheme. Would have probably bought it if it was priced normally." "What a batshit pricing model" "I love to idea of creating massive floating fortresses traveling in open space. BUT a lite version? Meh, if I only paid once, then maybe I'd buy it. But not yearly." So there you go! Just a heads up . I personally love the idea of a game where I can walk around a fully destructible spaceship and land on planets that spin and blow chunks out of them with glorious weaponry. But I stand with those guys, I'm probably not going to purchase it if I have to rebuy it every year. No hate/rage intended, just thought I'd let you know!
They replied in about twenty minutes with this:
Thanks for the heads up! We're well aware there's been a rather negative reaction to the payment scheme and we'll be revising it. We had intended for it to be something honest to allow continual funding for a game that will take several years to build in its entirety, however it just appears too convoluted for too many.
They fully understand it had a negative reaction, and are revising it. However, you get to see it from the developers point of view as well.
Imo if they want funding which is completely understandable, they should use some donation plan rather than doing it like this. (donate this and get access, donate more and get this extra, donate even more and never pay for future releases).
...you have to rebuy it every release, but you will get a bigger and bigger discount each release you buy.
and my interest immediately dissolves into dust [editline]3:52PM[/editline] oh hey i'm late
As soon as they abandon the current payment model, I will buy it. This idea is too promising to be killed by a silly release plan. Building gigantic battle fortresses in space is just too cool to abandon. I really like how they thank infiniminer and Notch on their homepage, that is the gentlemanly thing to do.
can you even fly the ships in the lite version? [editline]26th September 2011[/editline] nevermind
Definitely holding out on paying for this. Way too early in development and way too stupid a pricing scheme.
