Lite version is just the full one without the latest updates?
Definitely holding out on paying for this. Way too early in development and way too stupid a pricing scheme.
the forum has some talk about a proper shipyard implementation, with support for ai construction bots for those mega projects, as well as prefabs and an external editor. if that becomes reality ill buy, as the current building system is derptastic [editline]26th September 2011[/editline]
Lite version is just the full one without the latest updates?
it's missing damn near everything besides flying and building
Here's the problem with their payment scheme. You are paying for an unfinished product and showing support. Someone can just buy the final iteration and save more money than the early adopters (the people essentially paying for its development). It's bullshit. It is like punishing the supporters.
They probably do this payment method in order to say "you are getting this game at this state". I think they see this as a way to counter retaliation if the project doesn't meet it's goals (ie. cortex command). Which I personally see this as a bad way to go about it.
I sent the guys an email containing many replies from this thread. I hope you don't mind. :smith: They replied in about twenty minutes with this: They fully understand it had a negative reaction, and are revising it. However, you get to see it from the developers point of view as well.
You are my hero! I also updated the OP with this news. I didn't expect they would change it, these developers are awesome.
If only they'd ditch that retarded payment model, I would whole-heartedly fork over the dough. I'd pay $15 - $20 for a lifetime guarantee.
If only they'd ditch that retarded payment model, I would whole-heartedly fork over the dough. I'd pay $15 - $20 for a lifetime guarantee.
Would be nice if we could have a guarentee that it will actually be released with all its features :v:
The game looks good, I'm not quite sure whether I want to drop $10 on it quite yet, as it still looks pretty unfinished, also the current payment model is pretty crap, I hope the developer fixes that ASAP.
I very much like the way this is going and will definitely buy it once I see the revised paymodel, hopefully the finished product will have more reliance on things like resources, though, as I can see a huge potential for griefing. (Unless some sort of anti-teamdamage system gets put in.) Of course, it's probably too early to think about stuff like this. [editline]27th September 2011[/editline]
Would be nice if we could have a guarentee that it will actually be released with all its features :v:
Knowing these guys, it probably will. These are the same guys who made that miniature block based fluid dynamics simulator, which would contribute a lot of experience to this product. I'm very confident that this will be updated quite regularly. In fact, by spreading the news, it would likely get this project out much faster, as it would encourage more people to pay for it and watch the development, therefore encouraging the developers to complete the game and add new features.
I'd like if if they added life support and door controls, for example: when the hull gets breached, the air gets sucked out, and you can close blastdoors to prevent the whole ship form running out of air
Really looking forward to it due to the way they explained it on they'r last project. I really doubt the project will be bad or terrible because the past two projects they've had were awesome. I mean, they've had a recreation of the zerg from Starcraft 2 to Warcraft 3. and a very simple block based game with awesome water physics.
Looks cool, but hell if I'm going to drop money every year on it. That's got to be the most retarded payment scheme I've seen in a long time.
What about paying for it every second you play it?
The amount of time I wasted building big, fuck off static spaceships in minecraft is ridiculous. This game would eat my time way too much. But only if they, like everyone else has said, don't have such a silly pricing model.
My question is this: Why do so few indie developers go through Kickstarter? Kickstarter is a fantastic program that guarantees the safety of the individuals investing in these little projects from fraud, so it's essentially fail-safe.

I'm kinda wondering how planets will work when they add them, since there's no perfect spherical surfaces, it could be really annoying to navigate them. Unless the players are always going to be flying around with jetpacks? [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] Found this on their forums http://forums.blockaderunnergame.com/index.php?topic=88.0 Game Engine: -Costum forms for ship building (R1) -Full fluid simulation for atmosphere, fuel,... They will use the Liquid Cube algorithms: http://www.moddb.com/games/liquid-cubed Yes. [editline]28th September 2011[/editline] Also, apparently Blockade Runner is a shop for civil war merchandise. Holy fuck why do my posts always kill threads This is ridiculous
Holy fuck why do my posts always kill threads This is ridiculous
Nah you're just posting from aussieland. Not too many posters on in the North American time zones right now, quiets the threads a bit.
And People in UK aren't really up at this time, you get a few like me who are though.
so fluid simulation for fuel? that'd make it really interesting.
I think it'll take far too long to build any ships.
I think it'll take far too long to build any ships.
You are not autistic enough.
The developer team emailed me again, with updates on the new pricing model.
We'll be revising the pricing model to fit a more typical game's "release" and the game being expanded with expansions. Go ahead and read this rough draft of the new pricing model, let us know what you think! How much does Blockade Runner cost? $10 while it’s still in alpha. Why should I pay for the alpha game now? You gain additional features compared to the lite version, receive a discount on future expansions & add-ons, and save money in the long run. When is Blockade Runner’s Alpha expected to end? We’re following a roadmap for early/mid 2012, with the Beta expected to end later in the same year. What are some core features expected once the game’s out of Beta? Currently planned core features are the “living starships” (utilizing cellular automata), robust first person gameplay within and outside of the starships, a procedurally generated portion of space with quests and missions to perform, an extensive editor to make complex ships easier to create, and a basic form of our intended multiplayer. Future expansions are planned to extend the game immensely from there. What will Blockade Runner’s price be once it is out of Beta? TBD The game could have an enormous amount of content, how will this be done by the end of Blockade Runner’s Beta? After Blockade Runner’s Beta ends, the game will be extended immensely through major expansions. Does the game require a subscription? No, once you buy Blockade Runner, you own it forever. What happened to the old pricing model, “releases”, etc? The old priceing model was a little confusing, and so we’ve made a pricing model that is hopefully easier to understand. The changes are explained in further detail here (link later).
A much more minecraft-esque model, the promise of an actual completed game once it's out of beta, instead of bits of the game you have to pay for yearly, and expansion packs to add extra content from there. How's that?
Just came to notice that loads of indie games i know are all coming out in 2012 :v: 2012 will be the year of the indie games
I'm kinda wondering how planets will work when they add them, since there's no perfect spherical surfaces, it could be really annoying to navigate them. So exactly how many time am I going to have to rebuy this game if I were to buy it now?
zero
So exactly how many time am I going to have to rebuy this game if I were to buy it now?
You'd buy the full game once. Then there'd be expansions.
You'd buy the full game once. Then there'd be expansions.
Blazingfly, you are just pure awesomeness. Just had to say that. :v:
