I installed Complete 2009 because I read that it fixes all the bugs and stuff with the original game, plus it improves the graphics. I wouldn't play a game-changing mod without playing the vanilla first but as far as I know Complete 2009 makes the original game a better experience, same quests etc but less bugs/annoying stuff.
If you HAVE to play with a mod without playing vanilla. I suggest you use ZRP, it's just bugfixes.
Get it HERE
It includes a modifier program which helps you choose what fixes and such you want to use. Just read the instructions.
Which is why modders exist.
Sent you that mesh Thorny.
You are officially my hero for the next five minutes.
SMP is giving me shit, as in freezing every 5 seconds while walking around for like 5 seconds, and when quicksaving.. and constantly. Didnt do it much until I got to the Bar/Wild Territory
(no it isnt my computer specs thats a problem)
Oh wait it's SMP a terribly unstable mod. I even had 4GBs of RAM and didn't even manage to start it up, and yes I know S.T.A.L.K.E.R. inside and out.
Can anybody provide me with a picture of the freedom faction patch? If I get it, I'll make it into a real patch and put it on my flecktarn for airsoft. Yes, I will deliver pictures. when it's done.
Just having more kinds of gasmasks would be cool.
It think the stalkers look kinda dumb with their SPESHUL FORCES - ZONE EDITION gear. I'd rather have torn jackets, denim, big backpacks (which are dropped for the duration of the firefight), maybe some vests, and mostly homemade shit or military surplus. The Sunrise suit looks like ass and doesn't really fit in with the "scrounge to survive" thing. Duty etc is a different thing of course.
realistically it wouldn't work well that way. and for a game that shoots for realism, that's important.
Sidorovich explains it well in Clear Sky. back when the first Stalkers had come into the Zone, it was like that: no special suits to protect from radiation, no special weapons, no detectors; just bolts, outdated weapons and the clothes on your back. problem was, you could only stay near the perimeter of the Zone because from the Garbage inwards the radiation was too high for anyone to explore. it's safe to assume that this is where the Sunrise Suits came in. dunno when the first ones were made or where they get made (according to their description they're home made, but who in Eastern Europe has the supplies to make an anti-radiation suit from scratch? in this case this is where the MST3K mantra sets in: "repeat to yourself 'it's just a [game], I should really just relax'"), but they were effective enough for deeper exploration of the Zone.
Then I want a Stalker game set at the time of the first stalkers :saddowns:
[editline]09:49PM[/editline]
Why couldn't they at least make the Sunrise suit look less like ass
Buddie, I freaking <3 you so hard. First you re-do all of the game inv icons incl the Redux ones for me, then you fix my problem :3:

And let's not forget, Ukrainian Government makes special suits for military(Beril-5M series), reasarch teams(SSP series, SEVA) and military stalkers(Bulat and SKAT-9 armored suits), plus the illegal factories in Ukraine are developing third generation Exoskeleton armors. Why have shitty equipment when the whole North Ukraine is trying to make a profit by making cheap stuff for stalkers, illegal or not. Hell, I can afford a Sunrise suit by the money I made by mowing lawns and fixing TVs.
that's my main issue with all STALKER games
The first two didn't really have this issue.
Well the CoP sidequest system basically means well written limited quests, not the usual endless randomly generated shitfests.
I agree on the CS/CoP artifact system, the SHoC one is just plain stupid. Artifacts just randomly floating around in the middle of the road? Sure makes them seem rare.
I hate how you can stand right next to an artifacts and it won't appear until you get out your detector. I think that artifacts should show up whether or not you have a detector if you're within a close range to it. Doesn't really annoy me, it just doesn't make sense.

The reason why they don't show up is because the anomalies implode and release their content when the detectors are turned on. Hence why when you get the Svarog detector you go to the cooling tower in Jupiter and the Space anomaly implodes, releasing all of it's content.
Is there any way to use Russian text in SoC? I want to try and play the game that way.

if I remember correctly, in-universe, you can only find artifacts with detectors that are in active scanning mode (passive scan only tells you if anomalies are near with that beeping). apparently, the active scanning mode somehow overloads whatever it is that hide artifacts from sight, thereby revealing the artifacts.
I'd like to know what it is that hides artifacts from sight in the first place. my guess would be mini-space anomalies. reasoning being that if you have an advanced detector in CoP, you can find the Space Anomaly in The Area Around Jupiter that overloads and dumps those Dutyers out. I was thinking that the Detector (I had the Svarog) overloaded the Space Anomaly to dump the Dutyers out, so maybe it can do so with the artifacts if they are indeed being held in mini-versions of Space Anomalies.
... did that make sense?
EDIT: damn, croguy beat me to it. I should really stop typing so much.

This.

Then again I doubt a piece of armor with radiation protection, kevlar and ceramic trauma plates would be as cheap as it's in the game.
Fucking detectors, how do they work?
magic everywhere in this Zone!

well, Sunrise suit costs like, 3000 USD in SoC so I guess it's preety expensive.
Anyway guys it doesn't really matter whether I have a mod or not, I'm playing the original story so it's all good.
I've nearly finished it now anyway and I'm the sort of person who will basically abandon a game once I finish the main story and not come back to it for a long time. Also I'll most likely be playing CoP vanilla when I finish SoC :D
Yeah, but seeing that practically everyone in the zone has one, there's probably some hidden factory somewhere that runs off of illegal child labor or something.

Kevlar vests cost around $500, full body armor up to $1200 from what I've seen.

As I stated before, everyone is trying to make a profit out of the Zone. So my guess is that Southwest Russia, Belorussia and North Ukraine are illegally making stuff for the STALKERs and then selling them to the traders. They probably aren't using children because you need equipment that works better that swiss watches in the Zone to last long with that equipment. My guess is that every expert technician in the former eastern bloc is making money off of creating stalker suits.

it makes a lot of sense. I'd like to know how the technology to develop Detectors came about. since the only way to find artifacts are with Detectors, they must have came from already existing technology. some type of radio wave frequency maybe?

You got it right.
You got it right.
I feel too knowledgeable for my own good, and I barely even browse the STALKER wiki or pay much attention to the dialogue in-game, unless it's story relevant.
Another thing: Lebedev is the most biggest lying bastard in the series. He was one of the project leaders for the [sp]X labs[/sp], he was working on the [sp]Gauss Rifle[/sp] and the [sp]Psy-emission[/sp] projects and I could bet he knew about [sp]C-Counciousness[/sp], too. At least he sort of trying to make the things he was ordered to work on to stop with Clear Sky. That is, until his [sp]brain got fried[/sp].
It'd be best if you [sp] tag that.
Stalkers deserve to know!
Well stalkers who want to play the game and find out for themselves don't want to know. I have no problem with it since I already beat all three however those who haven't won't appreciate that.
What if [sp]Lebedev is the guy you see at the end of SHOC plugging strelok into CC?[/sp]
If you guy's want a super-realism and hardcore mod, get LURK and add some motion blur, play on Veteran or Master....
You can only carry 35kg (theres an extra option to change it to normal or make it even higher in the main DL), new prices for things, every mutant you kill has some kind of thing to sell (body part, most of mutants actually not all), It's /sexy/, you're not a super soldier who can shoot a paper clip out of a sprinting bloodsucker's hand.. there's none of that starting gear in the beginning (AK74U in the bag is gone, merc suit is now a rookie suit)the hud is way different, it only shows your weapon/ammo and health/energy bars..
I can't even explain. It's such an awesome mod, I ditched SMP and got it and its both stable as hell and awesome as hell.
