ME2 made me mad because all your former squad mates are all like "Oh, well I have a job now soooo.... Bye."

I grew attached to some of the Left 4 Dead teammates. Their comments when someone died almost hit home for me.
i believe KONAMI was working on an FPS that was going to be like this but they scrapped it because, if my memory serves me correctly, most of the people on the teams themselves were having a sort of shellshock.
I think its called six days in fellujah, and as far as i can tell they are still working on it, but are having difficulties finding a publisher.
If you made a game emotional where would the fun be of not giving a crap and wasting a whole base?
Because games can be fun and emotional, that's like saying a movie can't be emotional or a book can't have a good story.
I bet Valve could make a game like this. And make all of us bawl like babies in the process too.
Valve does awful Emotion
Six Days in Fallujah. It was a game being developed by Atomic Games and Konami. In 2009 is was dropped by Konami due to extreme controversy about it's content that had been an issue since the game began development. This game so so intense that real war veterans who fought in the Second Battle of Fallujah and saw death and chaos were brought in to help with development. Although Atmoic games still wants to finish the game I doubt it will ever see the light of day. No one really knows what happened to the game, it is probably locked in a warehouse in Arizona along with StarCraft: Ghost, Duke Nukem Forever and Episode 3.
On March 2, 2010, IGN announced that the game is still coming out and is finished.
check ign bro.
Episode 3 was confirmed too.

At E3 2008 or 09

Valve is using heart rate monitors for testing EP3.
They are so stupid they cannot design an emotional scene without the help of excitement measurement equipment.
No.

yes that's it, i thought it was an fps for some reason. it's also not being made by KONAMI, i guess i thought it was canceled because KONAMI said naw man not gonna produce this
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One got me a little bit emotional, especially when in the last mission, Bloomfield says "I might just make it out of this war!" and is blown into the air by artillery seconds later. Oh, and when your squadmate kicks open a door in Italy, only to find a machine gun nest on the other side and gets filled with lead. The worst part is watching him fly backwards over the railing.
The writing in the first two games, the first especially, is very good. The voice-acting is okay too. What ruined it was the terrible editing.
The third game was dumb. They tried way too hard to make it an emotional roller-coaster but the writing and voice-acting were both poor. It wasn't helped by shitty facial animations that made the characters look like they were straight from The Sims.
Bullshit mang. I had the biggest goddamn lump in my throat when Baker comes in the tent and looks at crippled Red in the eye, and feels the sharp twinge of guilt.
There was a game however, that did an outstanding job of creating a very solid sense of camaraderie with your teammates, and then viciously ripping them away from you. I can't remember what it was however, I just remember the almost palpable sense of loss.
Area 51?
Crysis did that a little bit. I was pissed when Jester was literally torn away from me by a Huge Alien Cthulu Monster.
I think the best emotional game would be a WW2 FPS from german's perspective, in the style of Brothers in Arms. With a final mission of holding off russian onslaught to buy some time for the thousands of civilians running behind you towards the allied lines. Depenting of the outcome your squad either dies to the last man, sacrifising themselfs for the civilians. Or fights their way to the river that has the american and british troops on the other side waiting for you.
It would be actually historially correct. on the last days of WW2, I don't remember where, but the last remains of Division "Grossdeutchland" fought bitterly somewhere on southern germany to hold off the russians from reaching the civilian convoy escaping to the allied-held side of a river. After the civilians got across, the remaining german soldiers then retreated and surrendered to the allied soldiers.
It would greatly encourage the player to actually figth like hell, because everyone knows how brutal and vengeful the russians were towards german civilians

KONAMI didn't have the balls to publish it due to the controversy.
Apparently the game is pretty much done, but still no luck finding a different publisher
Well in order to make a emotional war game you need :
-much playtime
-allys with different personalitys, not all players are gonna like on type of person (example : Mass Effect)
-a good presentation (visual, audio)
-a "bad" ending
However there's pros and cons considering the above in the development of a game.
Pros:
-Well it's a emotional game now!
-Hardcore gamers are gonna like it
Cons:
-Huge Development costs if pulled off right
-Long Development time
-Average Gamers probably aren't going to get 'emotional'
So seeing from the developer's perspective, it probably isn't really profitable to do it (mah opinion).
Making realistic war into a game and making it enjoyable wouldn't go down well in the media.
Modern warfare 2 isn't realistic, not by any stretch but then again, realistic combat is super hardcore.
In terms of actual combat emotion, not so much.
But Metal Gear Solid 3 accurately depicts the huge amount of distrust and betrayal that was present in the 1960s at the beginning of the Cold War.
The paranoia of the era was shown through the relationships between Snake, Eva, The Boss, The Cobra Unit, and Volgin which really took a toll on the characters and made you feel for them. It was a pretty emotional game, especially the ending.

The ending was an "Oh fuck, please don't tell me *finger slips onto square button* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
The war game that made me really feel the horrors of war is an indie game. You play as a soldier in an unnamed war fighting unnamed enemies for an unnamed country, as you descend deeper you advance not only in space, but also in time. As you go deeper into the game propaganda newspaper headlines float past you as well as news of protests. You can choose to kill or not, Kill and be a hero, become a pacifist and remain unknown. once you die, thats it game over.
Health is regained by going into tents after which a female scream is heard.
All in the name of your country.
Oh god.. All I want to see in life is a World War 2 game with a Heavy Rain-like detailed story. :crying:
There really needs to be more war games that shows the emotions of war and not the "hell yeah, killin japs is awesome!!!" *proceeds to kill 500 enemies without getting scratched*
Six days in fallujah. I would love to play that game if it ever came out. Fuck if I was a publisher I'd publish it just for the sheer amount of work they put into it.
The new Medal of Honor game looks pretty emotional.

I agree with that. It's one of the few emotional parts of that game. Everything else is just senseless fun.
Arma II does a very good job of showing the realities of war without gritting it up like an emo gothfag or farting puppies and rainbows everywhere. It's an interesting and meaningful take on the subject I'd say.
No dismemberment I'm afraid, but when someone eventually does gets hit or some spoilerific story things happen, it can be pretty damn tense.
Actually ArmA has the opposite effect unless the other soldiers I'm fighting with are living friends playing online with me. But when it's the AI I can't help but go "Fucking finally, deserved it for being a dumbshit."

Anyone who has read Forgotten Soldier by Guy Sajer would agree.
Another possibility would be Black Edelweiss by Johann Voss, who was a Waffen SS Gebirgsjäger, but I haven't finished reading that one.
Forgotten Soldier however would fit the bill as an emotional wargame perfectly in more than a points. [sp]Poor Ernst.[/sp]
I want to see a War Game that's billed as a survival horror, since that's what actual war is. And, it would be interesting to see a horror game not relying on the supernatural and/or crazy hobos to scare you.

What's that game called? Sounds interesting.
