bunny hopping would be retarded to use as a primary game mechanic, it's nothing but frustrating as fuck for anyone but ~~SKILLED GAMERS~~ and it would reek of laziness from the developer. "movement based gameplay" is something that Mirror's Edge would fit into, and soon Brink too though not quite as much. not quake 3 (although with all the fucking jumping at 300 km/h it pretty much has turned into it)
There's entire communities that exist just for movement based gameplay. How would it be 'lazy' by the developer? Think outside the box. It doesn't just need bunnyhopping. Quake 3's Defrag mod is exactly the kind of game that would fall into the 'movement' genre.
You guys be ignorant. I mean I tried learning how to do this on that one source mod that was built for bunny hop trial maps. You need to be fucking super precise. It's crazy.
Kreedz Climbing? Thank you, few people in this thread actually understand it. I think most of the hate in this thread comes from a general misunderstanding of how bunnyhopping is performed, and also that many people in this thread describe their experiences with bunnyhopping as in a deathmatch game, and simply being on the shit end of the stick. That's why bunnyhopping doesn't exist in many games nowadays, but setting it aside for it's own genre would be sufficient - since at one time, movement was a lot in games, especially multiplayer.
It's because it's annoying. Yes, it does hinder people's ability to shot you. Make fun of it, go "haha you suck at aiming" but no. It seems like it would, but it does. I don't want to have to worry about whether or not the guy is going to spin around a corner going half the speed of light a meter above where I was aiming, or have them jump AROUND me or while I'm prone etc etc. It's dumb. While I don't support Arma like physics (lol u weigh 500 puonds), bunny hopping is silly. [editline]13th January 2011[/editline] Also, Kreedz and other jumping source or source-like games are out of the question. That's a game built around bunnyhopping, nobody cares if you're not a bunnyhopping acrobatic turd and you stick to your own game. But when you do it in games where it's really not supposed to happen it becomes annoying.

If people doubt the involvement and skill required to be able to even bunny hop correctly to complete the maps. I would recommend trying to do the tutorial in Kreedz Climbing. It took me an hour to even complete it after trying like 1000 times. (the bungee cord maps were fucking awesome though)
And Mirrors Edge is fun because you don't need to worry about where your invisible feet are or pressing the space bar within the right thousandth of a second. Why are you bitching about singleplayer games revolving around semi-realistic grabbing, climbing, and running? In real life parkour and whatnot, with practice, you control your own body with such precision it's scary. You can't replicate that in a video game, really, and Mirrors Edge doesn't want to be based around a perfectly upright box with a player skin inside it hopping around, so it does that.

Bunny Hopping trial maps have nothing to do with Mirrors Edge. And require more skill also.

Games aren't fun when in order to win you have to spend every iota of concentration on jumping precisely, and the penalty for not doing so is ruining your ability to play. It's more fun to eliminate the ability to even have the advantage of bunnyhopping - then everybody can concentrate on other things that are more fun. Wavedashing in Smash Bros was lame too.
Having played both, I can say Mirrors Edge is more fun. Woop woop skill, not much when the entire community is "skilled."
Though bunny hoping is part of some games, especially Quake III or some half life 2 mods (that one with teletubbies involving death matches had automatic bunny hoping and it was fine dealing with it) in most of the multiplayer games it's just an annoying exploit that has no goal except to piss people off and win with supposed skill. In other words, bunny hopping is fine in several games.
i buny h0p in mw2 it maeks me harda 2 hit and go fasta :downs:
i buny h0p in mw2 it maeks me harda 2 hit and go fasta :downs:
You can't bunny hop in Mw2, after one jump you have to rest before the next one, or else your jump won't be as high.
that's the joke [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] hey shouldn't you be gold member
Not sure if it's the same, but defrag in Q3A is always some badass sports.
that's the joke [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] hey shouldn't you be gold member
Subscribed on 31st of January. Won't be gold until then. [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
Not sure if it's the same, but defrag in Q3A is always some badass sports.
Quake 3 was made for bunny hopping though.
I don't think you two understand at all, honestly. The entire kreedz community is built around 'kreedz' maps, designed specifically for jump tactics. If the update was released, it would break these maps, and the community - a community with over 50,000 players. Perhaps if you actually understood the argument you'd know this. I love these maps, and in actual gameplay, I don't use bunnyhop. Read the thread, please. I even highlighted the main point twice in this thread, in red text...
50 000 players, HAHA YEAH RIGHT
i'm not even sure what the op is bitching about [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] like from the title of the thread he seems dismayed that bunnyhopping doesn't exist in most games anymore [editline]14th January 2011[/editline]
50 000 players, HAHA YEAH RIGHT
maybe he's doing that thing in some european countries where a comma is the equivalent of our decimal 50 people sounds far more reasonable
Quake, if you can't strafe jump, you will fail in MP, miserably.
If you are trying to bunnyhop with space, you are doing it wrong.
Hey look, more blind hate towards spacebar. I know people, myself included, that can shit on you kids using mwheel. Just because you have bad timing doesn't mean space is bad for hopping.
So this is basically circle/strafe jumping from q3/crysis except more spastic? I actually kind of like quake live and its crazy acrobatics because it actually presents a challenge, but trying this in a normal game like counterstrike is pretty retarded.
So this is basically circle/strafe jumping from q3/crysis except more spastic?
wait, what?
wait, what?
You could circle jump in crysis. Speed mode and right before the jump, switch to strength, then circle jump and you move incredibly far. In the original crysis there was also another type of jump I could never do where you run at a wall and spring off and upward letting you jump really high.
because you're casual and play for fun right
Yeah I do. If playing for fun is being a casual gamer, then I definitely am (games are entertainment, nothing more).
You could circle jump in crysis. Speed mode and right before the jump, switch to strength, then circle jump and you move incredibly far. Crysis is just ridiculous. Even on Delta in SP you can just keep spamming jump and nothing can hit you. That's not fun that's just cheap.
because you're casual and play for fun right
That's what games are made for you dolt.
Why the hell is that twat in the first video shaking his view around like that? Damn near painful to attempt to watch.
i did that second thing a couple times, but i gotta try this circle jump out later. sounds like it could be really useful. would i have to switch to armour to protect myself from the fall?
You'll probably take damage, but it's like any other situation in crysis, do you want to lose energy or health? The best jump I ever did was going from the roof of the big building on steelmill and hitting the invisible barrier on end of the map :v:
Why the hell is that twat in the first video shaking his view around like that?
