I love games like CoD cause everyone sucks which means easy kills.
I am sorry to inform you BENJA5, but FP is on average is incredibly intolerant towards any discussions that even remotely venture into the realm of serious and or competitive gaming, talking about these types of things here is usually just a frustrating waste of time. There are probably plenty of other forums which would actually find yous discussion interesting and support it. While FP is very pro open source, modding, and indie. It also somehow manages to be almost comically against comp gaming or any even relative discussions about skill, technique, or strategy.

In light of this, Facepunch is also incredibly aggravated by differing opinions. I try my best to retaliate with what I believe is a compelling argument, and sure, my arguments have had some flaws, but calling me a "bad poster" in what I can only conclude originates from my opinion, and my love for Movement-orientated gameplay, is just in bad taste. tl;dr lol

If I were to actually express my opinion on the originally discussed bunnyhopping (I actually prefer the term strafe jumping), then it would be this: Originally, strafe jumping was most likely not intended to even exist as a game element, and was most likely brought into gameplay (or rather the capacity of existing in gameplay) by some random loose engine code, or a lack of engine code to prevent such an accidental element. When it was originally discovered by one of the communities of the fps grandfathers such as quake and unreal, it was probably considered as a malicious unfair exploit which quite probably caused a lot of distress and annoyance at first. But then as time went on, it became a virtual gameplay staple for many quake-like shooters, and became known as a curious sprinting alternative which actually allowed more control over player movement then a fixed sprinting speed would. I personally now consider strafe jumping to be a native mechanic to many traditional shooters or rather a mechanic which became native over time as a pleasant side effect. Unfortunately while it gained the status of a quake-like game staple, and has tons of wonderful tutorials about it, in some sense it will still always be partially known as a pleasant sudden gameplay side effect. And unfortunately yet again, a large quantity of current modern shooters focus on being "casual friendly" and "easily accessible" rather then focusing on having unique gamepnay elements or having a borderline eternal community. These areas do not necessarily have much to do in the area of ACCIDENTAL mechanics, but they certainly do not contribute towards the areas which could possibly include them (such as genuinely trying out new things and conducting experiments.) Another thing would be the fact that while the computer world is still extremely young, the creation of games is just not as abstract of a field as it used to be anymore, the capacity for some equally as major side effect as strafe jumping to exist in a game is simply becoming progressively less. Fortunately or unfortunately, a large quantity of game developers simply have a much better orientation then they used to 10 years ago. A lot of game creators simply have too developed of an understanding to allow for something like strafe jumping to occur, it is just not as probable anymore. In other words, unless someone picks up and continues using strafe jumping as an actually intentional mechanic, it is far from impossible that we might eventually witness its death. (or a much faster death compared to it being intentionally used somewhere.)
Take Gunz The Duel for example:
Oh god, someone actually knows this. Gunz was an awesome game, before this happened.
thank a lot, now i'm downloading Kreedz Climbing
hey guys his name is kangaroo he is a massive kreedz player
Bunnyhopping was replaced by better movement and realism. People just don't hop around getting headshots in real-life, bunnyhopping itself was the result of a small bit of faulty coding and it's not nearly as awesome as some other exploits in coding. I say pah to bunny hopping and I welcome our new parkour overlords.

With regards to "le parkour," I really like that Brink is doing. It seems like an elegant, standardized way of letting people get around faster.
I've never really had problems with bunnyhopping in multiplayer games. It's a nice method of fast travel in singleplayers.
Bunnyhopping may take skill but it's exploiting a flaw in a game's physics engine to mess with hitboxes, making you almost impossible to hit. Yes, you may be jumping around in plain sight, but it doesn't matter if it prevents you from accurately hitting the hitboxes.
[hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xnx67nXywk[/hd] [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wopcPxeidy4[/hd] I play with people like this (and including these very same people) on a daily basis. I'm sure if you go through some more of these L4D frag videos you'll find instances of people bunnyhopping being used extensively as a skill. Tanks bunnyhopping down sloped inclines to dodge molotovs or get closer to survivors much faster as well as survivors bunnyhopping to get away from such tanks, also being used as a hunter skill to get 25s in places you normally can't. I know what I'm talking about and you can confirm this by looking here and here.
You know how in games people just jump up and down and stuff during cinematics? I hate that. Like in the beginning of portal, most people would look around and listen to GLADoS, but whenever you see videos people always jump around like crazy and press all the buttons they can.
i thought bunnyhopping was cool but then i turned 6
i thought bunnyhopping was cool but then i turned 6
Oh the old "I thought 'x' was cool when I was 'y age'." thing... You're probably not any older than 14...
Bunnyhopping; an exploit that takes skill. Nevertheless, it's still an exploit.
