You're missing my point.
Sure, some items are ugly as sin, but he has no reason at all to complain about anything.
Why shouldn't he criticise it? Before the release of most of these items everyone was complaining about things like the Ursa set, Drow Ranger's hair and the unicorn Sven. In fact, it made a difference that people complained, the Ursa set wasn't released.
I don't understand what 'point' you are meant to have here, he has a perfectly good reason to complain, he doesn't like the aesthetic of the items.
dota is free to play but that doesnt mean you cant criticize it

Yeah you are right in a way, or with your point, I don't pay anything, but in the long run my point is that the number of cool/fugly items is gonna grow even though the ratio between them might stay the same. By then the public point of view of Dota2 is changed drastically, be it for the better or the worse, depending on the cosmetics.
But then again who's to judge what's fugly and what's cool? Surely not the Workshop imo, with most feedback being like "how can i get it?" "so cool" "very nice1"

After a match you have a chance of getting a drop, however when you level up you're guaranteed to get an item.
