Golden Sun: Why the fuck am I pushing all these pillars around?

I can't find my GBA cartridge, apparently my sister sold it :ohdear:
Dark Dawn has the most horrible story (or character interaction?) I have ever seen in a video game. Example: at the very beginning of the game, Isaac and Garet are worried about letting their kids go into the forest even with them; after the tutorial level (so maybe half an hour later) they send them off to the other side of the continent alone. That's just stupid. There's also much more dialogue than there should be. I didn't mind the one in Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age, but in this one they argue about such stupid shit that I just don't care. Example: in the forest, Garet and Isaac are worried about their kids leading them, but they also want to have them learn how to defend themselves. Fair enough excuse for a dumb tutorial, but then they go and "think" (through the silly flying smilies) about how to keep them safe while letting them fight monsters. Then finally Isaac has the genius idea of helping them in battle when necessary! How clever!
Also apparently Isaac is an asshole and Garet's kid is autistic.
I also think it is way too easy, obviously targeted at kids. I think it's a stupid stereotype, I beat A Link to the Past and Super Mario Bros. when I was younger and I can't now so I don't know why they'd need this.

These are pretty much all of the complaints I have about dark dawn.

Then again, i didn't get far in the "second" golden sun.
Fear thy spoilers ahead
Alright, so the most offensive character in the game is this asian guy who joins into the story about 1/3rd of the way in, you're never supposed to like him as he is a walking plot mechanic, he bars you from entering villages that he isn't a part of and other assorted bullshit because he doesn't trust you or whatever. Turns out he's on a quest to save his sister so he goes on the noble quest of doing nothing but pester your team the entire goddamn time, he doesn't have good writing at all. One of the biggest examples is [sp]At one point your team finds a machine that if turned on will ruin the world plunging it into darkness. He's inches away from activating it and I shit you not, this exact exchange happens
Guy: I need to save my sister, I'll activate this machine with the orb I betrayed the main party with!
Party: Don't put that orb in the machine, it'll doom everyone and kill your sister!
Guy: Your right, I want to save my sister, man what was I thinking only a idiot would do that!
Evil party shows up: Didn't you -want- to save your sister though?
Guy: You're even more right here we go! Oh no the place is exploding and the world is dieing who saw that coming!!![/sp]
The worst part about this character is he sticks with you for most of the game, not as a party member but as a npc that just follows you (late game spoilers about him) [sp]sometime after he dooms everyone and kills thousands you find him mourning his grandpa in a abandoned shack, and he expects you to feel sorry and shock over one of his relatives dieing, they want you to feel sorry for a guy who literally caused all this when your team was 5 minutes away from saving his sister for him, this is bad writing[/sp]

Thing is, he's not even the worse character, that belongs to Himi, your replacement earth adapt. Like in 2 you have 8 members of a party to choose from, the first 6 you meet rather quickly, but number 7 comes in really late into the game at the point where the end game is wrapping up and he reveals himself... and then there's Himi. Number 8, a character with no thought put into her at all. There's no backstory, there's no effort, after you get her she has a amazing 2 lines for the rest of the entire game and they at best are "I knew you could do it!" she is literally walking filler space. Get this, to get her you walk into a cabin, find out she's sick. You talk to her, she stands up and says "I'm joining your party" and does just that, her dad walks out "No! Don't, wait do it bye" and you have her. For the rest of the game she will not speak another word, she will just be there. In golden sun 2 Earth adapts were main characters, big important people, and all of the cast felt like they were woven into the story, Issac and Felix were wonderful as a anti-hero hero pair but Matthew and Himi? While Matthew is there for the entire story Himi is thrust upon you at the very end with no warning and no advancement, there is no mystery behind her or anything, they just shoehorned her in to even the roster out. They had given you character number 7, but instead of fleshing him out they shove her in your face so you have to deal with it.
Then there's the enemies which literally (and I promise you) do not expand outside of different colored rat, rat with sword, skeleton, ogre, fishmen, fish, ghost and other typical things you can expect, then all of them are recolored all to hell, there is not a single original looking monster in this game, and the only way you can tell the creature is stronger then it's recolored cousin is if it's black or purple. This is awful
There's a shit ton more I could go on and on about but anyone who has played the game will most likely agree with me on this.
I absolutely loved the first two games, even though I only played the first game in German (it was 3 bucks, good price even though I don't even speak German that well). I kinda got it, but I'm currently replaying an english version. Also busy playing DD right now. I feels different from the other two games, but every time I saw a reference to one of the previous two games I smiled. (Think Eoleo and the ability to see Mercury Lighthouse). I'm at the apollo heights or whatever it's called right now, should be pretty close to beating it. Also, am I the only one that knew the guy with the blue hair (who later calls himself Arcanus) was actually [sp]Alex[/sp]? It was so obvious...

Everyone knows it's Alex because it's literally just him with one eye covered by a shitty mask. No I won't spoil it because if you didn't know I'm pretty sure something is wrong with you

What about those who didn't play the game yet?

Look, promise you within the first 30 or so minutes he shows up and everyone yells it. It's not much of a spoiler

It was pretty obvious that he would be the big bad since GS 2. What with him being foiled by a bunch of meddling kids and that "hundreds of years" year old guy.
lolbabi

I was thinking Pierre.
Babi was old as fuck too though.
