I could see this being something quite amazing if it's done right. I love the ArmA series, but if this does what Bohemia Interactive never could do then I'll have a new favorite. I can definitely tell this would be much better optimized, and add a whole new level of dynamic--creative features other Mil Sims fail at.
Was that a mod taking credit for all the tech in the cry engine?
I think if anything they're showcasing what the Cry engine can do, and how well optimized it is with new features and how great it would be for realistic military simulations.
Not all adults have that kind of money laying around.
If you don't have such money, then obviously this game/sim is not for you.
On my old computer Bf2 ran fine.
When I ran PR, it took me 15 minutes to load a map.
When compared to BF2 of course PR is harder to run. Maps are 10 times bigger, better graphics, new animations, new vehicles, lots of gameplay-related aspects changed and all that crap. I don't think they can change much in their ArmAII PR version except new animations and vehicles..new maps (that can't really be bigger than the already huge ArmAII maps) and some other aspects that will probably make the game more realistic and fun but won't affect the performance.
I won't bother getting excited for something this amazing, not only because it will be implemented in limited fashion (few games) and because it will remain impossible for my computer to run.
Whoa.
I'm amazed at the real-time cave creation system.
Also,

I'd have bitched less about driving to white forest if the view was like that.

Your computer would have bitched
The AC-130 gunship video was pretty pathetic really. The video in the OP was far more interesting.
Great Crimany Cracklers...
I'm personally looking forward to the day when we'll consider this primitive.
I jizzed at the caves and the SketchUp model import features.
HOly shit i RUINED my pants

That will be rather soon
This looks way better than ArmA 2. Not only does it look better, it will be much more optimized.
I prefer ARMA's looks to be honest. But Crysis looks good too and is better optimized. So I'd rather have ARMA modeled on this engine until I get a nice GPU.
I really don't like the way night/dark areas look. They're not dark at all.
I really don't like the way night/dark areas look. They're not dark at all.
That's because of the Global Illumination which makes light bounce off surfaces and light otherwise dark areas.

Which was off during this showcase.
Also GI doesn't make unlit cave so light. I know, I do a lot of 3d.
Nights were so bright in crysis1 too. Hell, you could make a box with no holes and it's still as light as outside

Actually it has to do with the ToD file for the map.
You need to change something like SSAO_Max to 500 instead of 250 or some shit.
All real-time? Holy shit.
Yeah, CryEngine 3 only does real-time. Real-time GI, real-time destruction, real-time fucking everything. EVEN REAL-TIME TERRAIN EROSION FROM THE OCEAN (there's real time cave generation so why not?)

GI makes a hell of a lot of difference. Maybe not as much as in the video, but that's mostly the developers fault for setting indirect light bounce energy too high.
Really, I am truly trying to see what is so great about this after seeing BmB getting shitstormed to death.
The way I see it, BmB is right with the fact that I have seen this a couple of years ago and played with the sandbox editor for many nights and nothing I see in these videos is in any way new apart from some assets. It could just be a random mod from crymod.com .
@pandemix: I have made huge underground caves with streams and such. Booby traps are no problem, sandbox supports many constraints just like Garrysmod does.
Here is an example of a total conversion mod:

Some real time physics:

And a remake of some Sony commercial apparently, showing that these graphics are really nothing new:

Last video isn't in real-time, regardless of what it says. It was showcased on the CryEngine 2 area of the website under "High quality off-line rendering."
you guys fail to see that "serious" games such as the one advertised are not consumer products but for commercial and military use only right. This is not something people will be able to buy like Arma 2.
Arma is not a "serious" game but the engine it was made on is....

It's not like they can't do what BIS does and make a milsim game to compete with Arma2 or Arma3 later.

I know what GI does. The point is that in this demo it was OFF!

Meh, cave is light when editing, it's just how CryEngine does things.
That's pretty cool. I still want an engine that can do good looking flora though.

FuckDamn! Best flexibility and coding I've seen in an engine ever. And Sketchup import? Wow.
what version of cryengine is this? Is this stuff going to be possible in cryengine 3 sandbox?
what version of cryengine is this? Is this stuff going to be possible in cryengine 3 sandbox?
This IS the cryengine 3. Most of these features are already implemented, only some you'll have to mod in.

Well that cave deformation looks totally BA.
