They didn't really show anything particular CE3 specific. There was like a 2 second glimpse at GI bounces but that was it. I guess the water dynamics thing was really cool.
Really? Because I didn't see anything new, except maybe water flow and something else but that's probably not hard to do, seeing as CE3 is very dynamic and expandable. I like how Sandbox 3 editor has panels saying "Xbox 360/Playstation 3 not connected"
That sketchup model import would be nice for making buildings.
Also this whole thing seems to be like VBS2 In other words: you will have to pay a shitload of money to get a personal licence (which is pointless because CE3 has the same abilities in both this and in Crysis 2)

Did you expect something else?
Really? Because I didn't see anything new, except maybe water flow and something else but that's probably not hard to do, seeing as CE3 is very dynamic and expandable.
That was exactly what I said.
Far Cry 3, anyone? It could be just like Far Cry 2, except good.
How is this in any way related to Far Cry? Other than the whole CryEngine ofc.
How is this in any way related to Far Cry? Other than the whole CryEngine ofc.
The engine and visuals displayed in the video remind me of Far Cry 2... I just get that kind of vibe from it. I feel like Far Cry 2 looked great and could've been a great game. If there's any engine Far Cry 3 would be made on, it's this one.
This looks way better than ArmA 2. Not only does it look better, it will be much more optimized.
Really? You know this from a trailer? Cryengine hasn't got a good track record with optimization so far.

Updated of course.
I will say this. BIS/BIA better pick their game up for VBS3 if they want to hold onto their military market. The Military doesn't give a shit about pretty visuals, but the ease and detail of operations that could be simulated with this will be very attractive.
Really? You know this from a trailer? Cryengine hasn't got a good track record with optimization so far.
Cryengine runs great for it's visuals.
Cryengine hasn't got a good track record with? Jesus christ. It has very nice optimization for being 90% realtime. A lot of the effects I'd think to be more expensive are actually quite cheap in it. In fact the only reason Crytek are able to do what they do is because of how much they focus on optimizing. Please don't talk out of your ass.
Double post yay.
Please don't talk out of your ass.

You're the ones doing the focussing here, I just stated the obvious but you had to go and dispute the obvious.
What I see here is a big giant ass telling other smaller asses to shut up!!
Really? You know this from a trailer? Cryengine hasn't got a good track record with optimization so far.
Have you played ArmA 2? It runs terribly.
I need a new computer...
Have you played ArmA 2? It runs terribly.
I never said ArmA 2 isn't badly optimized. But FYI ArmA 2 runs extremely well on certain builds and terrible on others, even if the other build is considered better by most. Also, for me, crysis runs like shit for not all that great visuals, comparatively ArmA 2 runs very well. My only real problems with ArmA 2's performance came from BI's retarded optimization (or lack there of) of the default island chernarus. Most custom islands look better and perform better.
In my opinion Crysis still is the best-looking game, and considering what it does real-time it's nicely optimized
From what I can see in the caves the lighting looks somewhat buggy.

The only reason custom islands and Arrowhead perform better is because they don't have quite as intense vegetation. The optimization of the engine is equally terrible.

There are plenty of custom islands that use more objects and more vegetation than Chernarus, and still perform much better. Chernarus is just a poorly made island.

There's a few precomputed things like the cave AO I mentioned before. And terrain AO.
Using texture maps for terrain occlusion is acceptable, seen as there's no other good way to do it other than placing a RTT source really high above and computing AO on that. And both still change as you manipulate the terrain, so they're still real-time.
It doesn't change in realtime you have to recompute it for it to be accurate.
Imagine a merge between this and Outerra Land, Sea, Air, Space
It doesn't change in realtime you have to recompute it for it to be accurate.
It changes every time you edit the terrain though. Besides, terrain AO looks shit unless you pre-compute it.
It's still not realtime.
