Frewb, to loot, you need to be aiming at a pile of loot, (AKA beans, drinks, cans, etc etc). You know you are aiming at loot pile when a small symbol shows up that looks like a rifle with some items under it. When you see this, scroll down and you'll see a menu on the left of your screen. Scroll down to "Gear". This will bring up your inventory menu. Weapons that are highlighted in white, are items you do not have. Click on the arrow to the right of the item to put it in your inventory, click on the arrow to the left to take it out of your inventory.

Go play some of the scenarios or the campaign. Almost everything you need to know to play DayZ and even survive can be found just playing ArmA.

To access your gear without a loot pile, press G. From here you can open your bag and transfer items, or drop items you don't want.

Just lost all my stuff, I was running for a long time trying to get to Cherno so I can get to the Balota airstrip where I'll live the rest of my life in happiness as good weapons and ammo spawn, when all of a sudden I was at the firestation, which seemed leveled and destroyed, and my legs instantly broke and I died. Bloody hackers. DayZ is usually a game of 'why bother trying' because of how sudden your hard work could be destroyed, but my bloodlust for killing other survivors has grown in a dangerous rate, always being my main goal.

So are the hackers still on the server?
