I respawned just out of Elektro, and nearly died immediately to a zombie. After losing all but 7000 of my blood, I ventured into the pitch-black city, scrapping what I could. After the server broke down, I hopped onto a different server (which was daytime), where I met a really friendly bandit and a helpful survivor. With his help, I was able to get most of my survival loot back (save for a matchbox and a bit of food), and a bike. Unfortunately as soon as I rode off into the sunset, I heard him being devoured by zombies. He died shortly after. If you're reading this Erik, thanks bro.
Don't recall anyone saying the server was locked because of an update. Chernarus should be a bit more explicit before rating.

The new animations pbo is about 60mb smaller. Hmmm compression perhaps?
