decided to stop sucking so I started playing at night ingame holy shit is it fun
Please tell me I'm not the only one who flat out refuses to play in the ingame night. Your visibility is greatly reduced and for some reason I swear there are less zombies (or I just don't see them). When the moon is out it's much brighter and easier to find the buildings, but once you are inside you can just use your flashlight. While I dislike finding it harder to see, night time is really fun in that it is very rewarding.
what the fuck some guy in Cherno literally just dodged my fucking Enfield shot from like nine meters, he leaned to the side at the last fucking minute and it hit the wall behind him then shot me in the testicle. didn't know fucking Neo played DayZ.
well i couldnt figure out how to fix launching combined ops but i was able to startup using the oa beta. it worked fine
Question - Does using a box of matches to make a fire use up the matches, or can I make an infinite amount of fires with them as long as I have wood?
Question - Does using a box of matches to make a fire use up the matches, or can I make an infinite amount of fires with them as long as I have wood?
They're infinite. You do have to get more wood for each fire though.
Here is the tale of my first cold blooded murder up north; It was early morning here in the UK, after waking up I decided to do my usual sweep of the north eastern airstrip, along with a rummage through the barns and supermarket to get my daily dose of beans, pepsi and M1911 magazines on the US133 server. After heading out of my safe house in a industrial warehouse and finishing looting the supermarket and the barn, I make my way through the early morning darkness to the airstrip, easily avoiding zombies and killing a few because of the stupid amounts of M1911 magazines I had gathered in my travels. Upon finally getting to the hangars, I scavenge through one, I find a PWD and a mag for it. I ponder for a moment but decide on leaving the weapon in it's place, knowing that my pistol was more than enough to do the job with the absurd amount of ammo I had acquired for it. The second hangar wielded a bounty for me that day, a AKM mag! "Fantastic!" I thought as I picked up the magazine and shoved it into my pockets and gave a quick sweep once more, only finding chem lights and bandages this time. I step out the hangar, hearing a distance rumbling sound I perk up my ears, but quickly dismissing it as one of the planes flying over my house to Heathrow Airport. I stare at the Control Tower before me, hoping that I may find another AKM magazine or maybe a GPS. One could dream you know? Then, as I am crouch running towards the Control Tower I hear it again...that rumbling, but this time louder. I freeze, knowing it was not another plane flying over my house. I listen for a second, the sound becomes more of a buzzing noise, my heart pounds as I drop to the floor and wait. Seconds go by, the buzzing sound I now know belongs to a motorcycle increases, I watch the hill, waiting and waiting until finally I see it, another survivor! Riding down the hill in his motorcycle and circling the hangars. My heart pounds in my chest now, knowing that by most chances this person will not be friendly, not this far north surely! Thankfully I had found a Ghillie suit in my earlier travels before this place, it camouflaged me well in the grass. I hear him coming around for the hangars towards me! Did I make a sound? Did I say something into direct by mistake? I fear the worst, only having experienced ARMA for a week or so, I knew I could not best this man in a firefight surely! I lay still as he drives down the airstrip towards the Control Tower! My Luck! He did not see me! I try to make use of this time and stand up. But I freeze once again, fear holding my legs by the ankles and not letting go. I look to the left and right, do I run? Or do I fight? I had no time to think about such options as the rider came round the corner of the Control Tower. My eyes widen as I realised I was still standing up. I dropped to the floor once again. This time it seemed that would do nothing, the rider had most likely seen me and was riding directly towards me like a bull who has just seen a target coated in blood red paint. My hands shake as the buzz of the motorcycle's engine became louder and louder! My heart says "Call out to the man, maybe he really is a friend!" But my brain trusts my heart none, still having a daunting memories of helping a fellow survivor back south, only to have him fill my face with lead. I aim down the sights of my AKM, flicking it to full auto and waiting for the right moment...the rider was almost in my face! Riding just a bit to the left, enough to pass me without injuring me. The time had come. I squeeze the trigger on my AKM, aiming directly at the rider, he passes me by. I panic, did I hit him? Will he run away and come back? I turned to follow his movements as he does a tight right turn, I keep firing bursts towards the man, not knowing if I was hitting him or not. My hands were not helping my aim, already shaky from this encounter alone, but adding to the fact that I have tremors in them worsened the shaking. The rider stops, finally getting off his bike. "He is still standing?" I think as a jolt of fear hits me, if he was not dead by now then I surely was...but then I see as the rider get off the bike to engage me...he is bleeding! Hazzah! My shots had landed upon the man's flesh, I see as streams of his blood jet from his wounds. It seems that many of my shots had landed true, in the short time I was aloud to see his wounds I saw maybe 4 or 5 streams of blood gushing from the wounded rider, as though Satan himself had created his own personal fountain. The wounded rider ran for a moment, I keep on him, firing small bursts into the man until he had finally dropped to the floor. In the heat of the one sided battle, I had attracted a zombie or 2, quickly I dealt with them and waited for a moment in case any others came to investigate the loud noises that had erupted from my AKM. About 10 seconds passed before I was sure the coast was clear, I then realised I had forgotten about the fallen rider! Maybe we was merely unconscious for a short time and was now ready to shoot me in the back! I swing myself round, AKM at the ready, but the rider had not risen, he was surely dead...I close in on his body, hands still shaking from the experience, still listening out for any friends he may had been scouting for. I crouch next to the man and study him to see what the name of my first kill was... Dizzy...Dizzy was this fellow's name, I am sorry Dizzy, but I had no choice, I hope you understand... [thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/957263850760298625/DF6D55A1816C956C3692ACFF2E6D12BE16BF2C1D/[/thumb] I look through Dizzy's gear, maybe there is something of use to me, a lot of it seem standard for a northern survivor, an M4 with 5 magazines or so, medical supplies, cooked meat, beans, tools to navigate...but then I see... [thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/957263850760302426/51FAF77352A462CC05E8D1372F6872DB8C744D2C/[/thumb] Mountain Dew! This surely is a great day of bounty! While I hear stories of many other survivors always finding this drink, this was the first I had experienced it, the soft drink that had eluded me for so long was finally in my hands! After taking what supplied I needed, I look behind me and see the bike Dizzy had gotten (or fallen) off from. I decide I will take it, but I will only use it until it has run out of fuel, I do not have much use for vehicles as they would make too much noise, maybe I will take it into the woods and hideout in the north west... [thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/957263850760293069/E4C3804AABF3047EB9611253534A5701DAF09415/[/thumb] And that it is my fellow survivors...the tale of when I was forced to take another's life in order for mine to prevail...maybe we shall meet again Dizzy...but until then, thanks for the bike! Right I really should go eat breakfast...
This mod is fun for a month. After that you start to see the limits. " Hopefully " it's an alpha.
you're expecting a limitless video game? a third party mod, nonetheless
found a bike on us133
Where abouts? You could of found the one I "acquired" I didn't really hide it well
Spent 2 hours playing. My total DayZ time is nearing 3 hours now I pretty much went through all of Cherno and found 3 3-story apartments, with 2 2-story ones next to those, and a hospital across from it, which I will be returning to at nights now
Hunting players is becoming drastically more fun, running through Elektro with my freshly spawned player and killing everyone, got some gear, although most of the survival loot was from actually looting buildings. Welp, it's that time to become a bandit.
Me and my friend just headed out of Chernogorsk and were in a grassy clearing surrounded by trees. I had a hatchet and my friend had a lee enfield, and we were getting ready to run into a barn to the north east of Chernogorsk. I killed a boar with my hatchet, which my friend found highly amusing. As we were laughing, we heard this deranged war scream. We turned around and a player was sprinting directly at us, screaming down the microphone on direct chat. We shouted over the mic "Don't kill us mate, we're friendly! Don't kill us, please!" He stopped about a meter in front of us and said "hello guys i dont have any weapons i just spawned" so we started asking him what the hell he was thinking running towards us screaming, as we thought he was going to attack. He stared at us for a second, then suddenly dropped dead and sunk into the floor. What the fuck just happened...?
wind?
It's probably the wind and Arma doesn't let you compensate. Talking about snipers. I'm strolling the woods near Elektro when I notice DMR fire coming from the hill overlooking the power plant. Sneaked up the hill to have higher ground and from there I see two snipers busily popping noobs - must have been three or four murders, judged by the shots and the death messages immediately after, by the time I got close enough to fire them up with my M48 at 160 meters. I certainly hit one and probably the other too but they DC-d before they would die. Now the question is whether I should get myself a DMR for such situations or if I should have sneaked closer. Probably the latter. Anyway, those two won't be killing noobs anytime soon. [editline]16th July 2012[/editline]
Spent 2 hours playing. Every step you take sounds like an Enfield shot and then aggrod zombies come and face punch you through the walls and no escape.
Ran a tractor into a tree. I died.
Bought Combined Operations yesterday and played DayZ for a bit. Lasted an hour and a half on my first life, survived with only an Axe and then some dude in a bandit skin was speeding around the map firing seemingly unlimited bullets, murdered me and was then mauled by zombies. My second life I found a rifle and no ammo and a ton of food in Cherno, tomorrow I make my trek north to meet with my friends.
bandit skins do not exist anymore

Getting "Battleye Inizialation Failed" now. Do I have to reinstall it?
The remnants of my bandit clan are currently in Elektro somewhere, feel free to ambush them, as they refused to join me on my axe murdering revolution, and now I secretly plan on murdering them as well.
Getting "Battleye Inizialation Failed" now.
