So guys, in a few hours I'm going to start my expedition into DayZ on the FP server. Any quick tips before I start? I know all of the basics, but my tactics I think are going to be as follows:

-Attempt to make friends with everyone, at least so I don't get instakilled at any time.
-Shoot nobody on sight unless they fire first.
-Only scavenge, never kill for equipment.

How long will I survive with these tactics? An hour? A day? A week?

The first one is quite risky, the second one is a little risky and the last one is a good one

this is why I ran into the forest as soon as I spawned and went to the smaller towns, I'm currently about as northern as Peter Kay and I've not ran into anybody for quite a while although I did just have a small run in with a lookout post that nearly killed me and brought me down to about 2k blood

I think the last time I met another player and communicated, I was in the outskirts of electro looking for parts to repair a helicopter we'd taken over from a hacker spawn in some server. He had an axe and started moving towards me and I told him over direct to back up or I'd shoot his legs out, and after he did we had a very pleasant exchange. The last time I murdered a player, another person with an axe spotted me in a grocery store and tried to rush me.

Moral of the story is be very careful when you meet, you never know what they have planned, and even after you've been with them for hours they could still backstab you.

I'm sorry if this has been answered before but what do I have to do to get back on the FP server? I downloaded the RC1 but it says my install is corrupted (I'm pretty sure it's not), do I have to manually place the files in the folder or what?

Not only was this my longest surviving character, I also found my first M4, first Coyote backpack, first M107, [I]and[/I] my first car on it. I had all the equipment apart from rangefinder/NVG's/GPS.

Someone parked an Ural and a bike by the NWAF, so I promptly stole the Ural and skeedaddled, headed East, for Berezino to get spare parts for it. All sorts of shit was in the back, tents, rifles, and other rare stuff.

I traveled from NWAF to Gorka quite peacefully, and not long after, I spotted a gas station, so I decided to fill the tank and repair a broken wheel. Someone shot me in the back when I was filling up the gas tank.

May my loot serve you well, stranger, though I'm sad you chose to kill me on sight.

Longest i had a charictar for was just under 2 weeks, had a mk48 with aimdot... BEST gun in the game i think, silenced m9, NV gogs, coyote and all the shit i needed to live. Oh and a GPS and all that jazz. Was also proud to have 4 bandit kills and 9 murders and shitloads of zed kills.

you see, if I found a person refuelling their truck or car or something I'd just ask if I could go on a road trip with them and hang around with them for a while instead of just point blank shooting them
