Because ultimately its not really about the story, its about people trying to justify all this high-grade military gear by saying "left over from the Arma storyline".
Rather than just realising its just an alpha mod using resources from the original game.

Wouden't it be logical to assume all the military gear was just left over from whatever defense force tried to stop the outbreak?
They failed, there are high powered rifles lying around now, use them to murder people out of their beans.

I would still like DayZ more if there were two factions, one of which you picked to belong to, and you spawned around a certain area with your faction. With no Friendly Fire at that. It would force at least some people to work together, and you could end up having STALKER Clear Sky type fights for the spoils of war that lay within a town, rather than Deathmatch with Zombies

The point of the game is that there is nothing artificial in the game mechanics.
Two opposing factions would only emerge if players wanted two opposing factions emerge, not some code wrote into the game.

This happens lots in the game once you have high end gear and setup bases. Two groups will just fight each other over the stuff. Map is too small for more then one group really..

DayZ will remain perpetually unfinished if no story will be added because freeplay does have its limits after a while.

The thing is a lot of the high grade military weapons are supposed to be very rare, I have a feeling certain duplication exploits have ruined that, when the mod is finished I imagine such exploits will have been patched, and I wouldn't be surprised if they reset everyones characters/tents/vehicles when it's released too, which should make it more realistic.

they need to revamp the entire script system
right now the only thing standing between a safe dayz and one where carpet bombing the entire server is a way of life, is a good script bypass
executed scripts showing up in server logs isnt much of a deterrent right now, as not every server have admins actively checking the logs
the whole idea of executing scripts outside the editor is stupid anyway

BattlEye installation instructions
If you get an error about BattlEye failing to initialize, you need to update BattlEye to the latest version, to do this download:

And put it in Steam/steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead/Expansions/BattlEye, overwrite the existing one.
And yeah I think people do still use the Mumble.

So here I am, trying to host a fun DANCE PARTY in elektro church, and this fucker decides to hole up in there. That's alright, everyone is invited so I try to come in. He tries to shoot me with a double barrel, I quickly run back out and try to tell him how much of an asshole he is for ruining my dance party. Wait for him, and I'm sure he's reloaded or something by now. Run in, and the idiot is sitting there with his flashlight trained to the door. I run in, telling him that he deserves this and that my dance party will persevere and how much fun it'll be. Axe him in the face a few times and loot his body. Anyway, if anyone's up for a dance party, US 568.
