What should I do, not my tent.
FILL IT WITH EMPTY TIN CANS
Spent all day downloading it, and no;
"bad serial number given in setup" marvellous!
All the fixes I've found online suggest restarting the pc, validating the game files, running steam as an admin and running the game as an admin. Unfortunately none of this is working for me, does anyone have any suggestions?
I had the same thing, but it worked for me when I started up steam with administrator, and launched first Arma 2, then Arma: OA
help what's wrong with the server
Ugh, I know PvP is what makes this game as fantastic as it is, and I'm much better at surviving now than a few days ago, yet every time I get semi-decent gear and plan to head inland to live peacefully in the forest, someone guns me down for sport and I quit the game in a feat of fiery rage.
[editline]27th June 2012[/editline]
I guess I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that ~80% of survivors are huge pricks.

You've just got to accept death and then you won't be upset.
That's how I finally convinced myself to go into major cities.

Try to learn which areas are the most active ones and just stay in the forests, don't ever run across an open field and all that jazz and you should be fine.
I'm also extra butthurt this time because I actually got back to my gear, but the guy that killed me had stuck around. :v:
I've taken to enjoying protecting the streets of Cherno.

Does it involve murder?

I don't understand this broken logic.
There is nothing 'huge prick' in killing other people in this game.
When its an entirely logical to kill other survivors. You know... protection and gear, the two things people strive for in this game.
Does it involve murder?
No. I just shoot zombies when possible. I've watched countless people walk by me.
Does it involve murder?
How else are you going to do it? Give people tickets?
Good fucking grief, currently being sniped in Cherno. Those guys couldn't aim a rifle to save their lives. :v:
Got it working. This is incredible... so intense, so scary, so awesome. I was blundering around with no idea in the darkness trying to get used to the controls. Could see the zombies but barely make them out, then started to get chased and hid in a house where all I could find was some binoculars. Got chased again into what I assume was one of the big cities, and ran up some ladders to try and lose the zombies. Next thing I know I hear a gunshot and I'm dead. Awesome!
I think I'll join ze facepunch server now.

What are you equipped with and where are you? I'm sniping somewhere but I don't want to hit any survivors unless they're trying to kill someone else.

You'll be hearing tons of gunshots in the facepunch server, seriously all the other servers I played on I was lucky to honestly find people, on the facepunch server you hear gunshots every 2 seconds as you are travelling
how come that I find amazing loot in the airfield only on the facepunch server
otherwise it's just fucking tincans and painkillers, but on here i find like rare assault rifles
The thing I love about watching over the city is seeing all the people move around, going about doing their own business while I casually clear out zombies.

Also there was a post on the DayZ forum yesterday about radios for long-range communication, and I had this to say about it:
Radios should be a lootable item, as well as radio broadcasters. That way if you discover a radio you are able to hear broadcasters for x amount of meters/kilometers, and people with broadcasters will be able to broadcast whatever it is they may choose to do.
Radios/radio broadcasters should have multiple frequencies that you can fine tune, so that if there is someone on a certain frequency simply spamming you can change to another channel. Rocket and the development team could go so far as to allow for custom-frequency channels (from a frequency range of 0.0-100.0) so that teams could all tune in to a single frequency (i.e. 45.6) and then it would be much more difficult for bandits or spammers to lock in on their frequency.
This would add a tactical side to the use of radios, as only broadcasters could send information and would require the player to be stationary -- sort of like a commander overlooking a town while his squadmates go into the town to loot, so that information could be divulged to the team as they go. Bandits could use radios to detect other people and get the jump on them, giving an advantage to smart bandits.
This could definitely work, though some of it would defy a small bit of realism and it would require some heavy work to be implemented.
I can just imagine myself getting a radio broadcaster and sitting outside of a town: "Good morning Chernaruuuuuussssss!"
Honestly I just want to get a radio antenna so I can broadcast hilarious commentary to the world.

Your gonna eventually have someone probably come up near you and shoot you though, most who stay on the the top buildings are usually bandits sniping people and people might assume your one though, or just kill you for fun

That actually just happened while I was reading this, and I'm perfectly okay with that. An old man with a hatchet appeared behind me and started hacking at me, but I shot him in the leg as I went down and he died alongside me. I shouted "I WAS A GOOD GUY" as my screen went dark.
Oh well, time to go find another Enfield and keep protecting the city. "yolo" and all that.

That's most likely us, instead of directing people to where we are, we instead use the sound of gunshots to determine direction, so we'll blindly fire to let people in our group find our location :v:
Whoever said everything got reset was wrong.
My sekret stash of NVGs remains.

haha really? well that would explain how from the coast all the way to Stary I kept hearing shots, that makes so much sense now, well except for Cherno yesterday which turned into a deathmatch with shots ringing everywhere.
Well that's interesting
So when are you guys up for playing Armoury again?
Time for exciting tales of valor in Chernogorsk!
As I mentioned earlier, I had to skeedaddle my way around Chernogorsk, dodging bullets at every turn. I managed to raid the hospital without being hit, and so, with a dance in my step and a backpack full of drugs, I ran through the industrial quarters of the busy city. As I heard gunfire almost all the time, I got to thinking - Someone should set these bandits straight, you know? Sit those no-good bandits down for a little heart-to-heart.
Well just my luck, I found a trusty ol' hatchet in a workshop not far from the tall silos, where I had spotted a sneaky little survivor campin' it out with what I assumed was a DMR, or some such. I snuck up the ladder, taking only tiny steps at a time, until I was at the top of the silo, and there he was - sitting on the corner of the roof, with his rifle at his hip.
I ran fearlessly towards him, exclaiming my nordic battlecry, and swung my axe of righteousness right in his surprised face!
Alas, he landed a single bullet, right in my gonads, I fainted, and waited for death, savouring the thought of my noble action.

Not pictured: Blood, being violently spewed from my man-parts.
It was a glorious moment indeed. :v:
