He rotted up. Noone cared. lol.
Losing is not fun.
Losing is not fun.
I don't know, I kind of beg to differ, slightly! :P NetHack teaches the same lesson, that everything that can go wrong, will spaz out and proceed to rape you in ways you never saw coming! Good times!
I'm at PEACE with the goblins, I think. When i'm viewing other civilizations and goblins aren't highlighted, there's a blue P next to their name. I haven't had any ambushes for like three years, and never any sieges. And I have a thirty strong military i'm DIEING to test out. Any solutions? I'm on the verge of having the humans siege me.
It's dying. And, if you like having enemies who constantly run away (Humans on horseback only), then go at war with the Humans. Otherwise, don't. They just constantly run away because of their horses, and they are good trade partners.
Well, I just need a way for the goblins to attack me.
Attack their caravan?
Anyone know how to work the mac version of 40d13? It's given me a .exe file, how am I supposed to use that?
Anyone know how to work the mac version of 40d13? It's given me a .exe file, how am I supposed to use that?
.exe files can only be opened by Windows. I don't think there's a Mac version out yet. Sorry :<
Commander, shut up. I'm pretty damn sure most of the DF Community is glad to have you on-board. You're mature, willing and optimistic. Just ignore Kwal, he is just being his usual, grumpy self. Glad to see you're willing to give it a go, and I wouldn't exactly call Kwal a "Hardcore" player. He just hangs around a lot, like a bad fart.
Excuse me, but screw you. I raged because Commander said the exact same thing about a thousand other people said about 3Dwarf. Also, how's that succession game going? Oh wait [editline]01:23PM[/editline]
Goddamn immigrants. I went from a population of fifteen with prepared beds for like 35 to over 50 dwarves. One immigrant wave, christ. [editline]11:12AM[/editline] I have the same issue in one of my games. All I have to fight are kobold ambushes
Yeah, I know how you feel. I made an awesome fort awhile ago. It had a brook, magma pipe, HFS, flux, iron, you name it. It was pretty much the perfect site. However, I didn't find out until about 6 years into gametime that the Dwarves were the only other civilizations.

God damn it. Every time I open the designations menu it thinks the mouse is held down so I can't do anything.
Attack their caravan?
Strangely enough, I haven't gotten a goblin caravan yet, although I know its possible to. Believe me, the second I see them i'll be killing them. I want a challenge. Even a dragon or two would be great at this point.
Also, how's that succession game going? Oh wait
You just pretty much proved his point.
I'm supposed to do a rebirth thing for the high preist, what am I supposed to do?
I love this game. I started playing it last night and stopped in the morning now to post here about it. I had no idea what to do at first, so my dwarves just idled around until i figured out how to mine. (press "d", then "d", then designate an area to mine.) I made a big room for my dwarves, but they still hung around the caravan after my miner guy finished mining. After that, i was seriously stuck. So i abandoned the fortress and read a LOT on the wiki. Ready to play again, i started the game up. And now, i have a farm, stairs, a barracks, bedrooms, lots of shops, a refuse pile, and more. I love this game, and actually found it pretty easy to get in to, opposed to popular opinion. Totally worth it. I'm going to play some more!
If you like it now, you'll be pleased to note that the next version has been in development for about a year. So many improvements have been made.

I also felt that people exaggerated over the learning curve of the game, I got to know the controls, ASCII symbols, jobs and everything else in only a few days. I can now keep an effective fortress up and running with a food surplus and a good supply of items to trade.
Prolly the only problems I have with the game is memorizing the key combos for building stuff and how trading works.
Excuse me, but screw you. I raged because Commander said the exact same thing about a thousand other people said about 3Dwarf.
Oh, that explains it. :v:
My new quest that I don't look forward to because I hate it when theres a mega beast in the place where i'm supposed to kill it.
New update on the site guys. A teacher system.
07/24/2009: Finally got my first group of completely skill-free dwarves attending a striking demonstration given by a proficient dwarf. The teaching/learning skills/att/personality stuff is all up and running, and it was nice to see the students get their first skill increases (they also learned to be better students and how to concentrate better, he he he, as well as working on several of their mental attributes, which come back to increase the quality of their learning). The naturally distractable/lazy dwarves need to make harder rolls during these passive presentations or they blank during some of their lessons, though they can overcome their deficits with skill and attribute improvements. Aside from the teaching/conversation skills, teachers also learn a little bit about the skill they are teaching when they teach, though the students learn more, especially if the skill gap is large (assuming the teacher is effective). You'll still sometimes have demonstrations even if everybody is at roughly the same level, and they'll all learn a bit, but they'll mostly be practicing and sparring, once I get that up. Hopefully some of the underlying stuff that's going on will come across in their thoughts, but I haven't written those up yet and we'll see if I have the time.
http://bay12games.com/dwarves/dev_now.html
Ahahaha I went into a town, the jewler went bersker underwater and dragged two people down and bit them to death. Haha now a horse went crazy and attacked a guard and was killed by him.
Hey, can anyone give me some military tips. Like how to build up their skills?
Hey, can anyone give me some military tips. Like how to build up their skills?
Take them all off duty and they'll fight each other in the barracks.
I have a maceman, a swordsman and i'm one too, a spearman and a peasent in adventure mode, should I go kill the troll now or should I contiue training?
I'm making a new fortress, it's going to be at a volcano in the middle of a terrifying glacier. This is going to be fun. I'm starting prepared too, 2 of my 7 are swordsdwarves and I brought 50 logs for beds.
I finally managed to get the hang of the game. Granted I cheated a "little" (gave all my starting dwarves super skills and brought shitload of supplies with me), but the game is still fun for me. But it's a shame my first wave of migrants just passed by my fort, no one wanted to come. Why is that?
It is rare to get migrants in the first year, but you will get about 17 in the second year! To increase the chances of migrants coming (and how many), make your fortress wealthy (makes lots of stuff) and have a dwarven caravan leave intact.
It'd be nice if I could play.. with 40d13, when I open the designations menu it locks up and thinks the mouse is held down. I've tried everything.
