Okay so I found some Bauxite. How exactly would I go about mining it? Oh sweet they're collecting it by themselves.

How come I haven't been sieged yet? I have around 120 dwarfs and I'm on my third year. What am I missing?

You might have embarked where goblins can't reach you.

But I've encountered alot of golbin snatchers so far..

Is it really hard to make, say, chains? I only have two types of stone, I have no idea how to make iron or zink or tin...

You can't "Make" iron. You need to find iron ore, like magnetite or hematite.

...You mine them. You can only find gems IN the rocks. Just dig around.

Build a jewellers workshop and you can then choose which gems to cut

When you're digging tunnels and mining shafts, if you hit a metal ore or a gem, it will announce it by a message like "You have struck hematite!" or "You have struck rubies!". Sometimes it announces useless stones aswell, like bauxite, so remember to check what the newly found stuff is if you don't know what it is.

Generally, (With no tilesets) metal ores appear as a £ symbol.

I lost 35 dwarves to a massive combined ambush of 2 goblin parties (which is larger than an early fucking seige) when all I had was wrestlers and we lost about 25 more dwarves to suicide. You definitly need a catacombs, all those rotting bodies are gonna make your dwarves want to blow their brains out.
