I'm in a warm environment. The pools are murky and the river is full of deadly fish, what do I do?
You could just make a channel with bars or fortifications on the end facing the river (so no fish get in), use that water and make areas near the river restricted. OR If you have lava, use it to close off both ends of the river. If you don't have lava, make a massive stack of like 4 tiles tall, 4 wide, 4 long above the river, collapse it with a support rigged to a lever to cause a cave in, (should work) then make a huge underground reservoir, drain all the river water (along with the fish) into it, and reopen the river. I reccomend the first solution as the second one might only be temporary as more fish show up.
hell yes one gem cutter went insane and killed around 20 dwarves. Fuck yeah. How come my recruits can't even kill him?
Hah, I had 2 blocks of Adamantine right outside my fortress, I needed to level that place and found them. Newbie luck I guess.
If you're in a temperate environment then they'll all die from the freezing.
You die from freezing if you are in a freezing environment actually.
hell yes one gem cutter went insane and killed around 20 dwarves. Fuck yeah. He went berserk as your gem cutter did, but with no military skill and no strength/speed/toughness bonuses they actually threw him into the nearest wall and made his head and arms come off. I suppose it's because the soldiers were all right next to him and swarmed him.
Need to know what resolution your tileset is. First, obviously, set the window res in your init.txt/ Lets say for example your tileset is 8x8, if you want DF to run at 1024x768 in you init/init.txt file scroll to your GRID settings and we use a little math: 1024 / 8 = 128 768 / 8 = 96 GRID = 128, 96
Oh, thanks! Just one question before I'll stop asking about the res, what res i sthe original tileset that comes with the game, I'm playing at 1680x1050, I don't want DF to cover my entire screen so I figured a res appropriate for Mayday's tileset that I will get later once I get the hang of it all. The tileset needs 1280 x whatever vertical res that I may want. The tileset is 16x16 but I can't put the grid for that just yet when I don't have it. Going to try with 8x8.

Moody dwarf: It's never going to work, it will never work, nothing does, how can we live when nothing works... Soldier: JUDO THROW! *SMACK* Soldier: well that project cost and arm and a hea... no wait? thats now how you get ahead in... Damn it, that's not right either? ill think up a pun for this< just you wait and see.
Is it possible to make your dwarves automatically dump 'remains' from lizards, rats, etc?
when making stockpiles choose refuse. they will put them there automaticly.

Thanks guys [editline]02:44PM[/editline] DAMP STONE LOCATED FUCK OFF caps.
What chance has a single speardwarf against the carp army?
Get "Just Dig It Out" mod. :)
After chasing the school for a while, throwing mud at them to try and slow one down, eventually I was able to get out of the river and chase them on foot. When I caught up I attacked the main body but was dragged in and trapped under. In the end I was killed by a lowly sturgeon. Still, I had a good run:
Hey guys, there's no stone in my mountain, or, is there, I may never find out because whenever I try to dig a new place, it's full of water. How do I remove this shitty water?
Go to somewhere without an aquifer.
Go to somewhere without an aquifer.
A little late for that isn't it.
Your area has an aquifer. Start over. Edit: :ninja:
It's your own silly fault for starting with an aquifer.
I'm getting ready to embark on my first journey with my seven dwarves. Choose equipment and stuff as we speak. Reading the tutorial too, wish me luck guys!
It's your own silly fault for starting with an aquifer.
I don't know how to see whether an area has an aquifer or not. What is it anyway?
My dwarves still refuse to butcher the damn animals. Do I need to do anything besides make them "ready for butchering" in the animals menu?
My dwarves still refuse to butcher the damn animals. Do I need to do anything besides make them "ready for butchering" in the animals menu?
A butcher. Butcher's shop. My mayor is a legendary miner. :3:
I don't know how to see whether an area has an aquifer or not. What is it anyway?
Underground water reservoir. Look for blue water tiles next to the rock / soil types in the embark screen.
Underground water reservoir. Look for blue water tiles next to the rock / soil types in the embark screen.
So you guys are saying it is impossible to get rid of it?
Yes.
Oh, thanks! Going to try with 8x8.
The original tileset is 8x12 (curses_640x300) So for 1680x1050 you'll need a grid size of: 1680 / 8 = 210 1050 / 8 = 131.5 The maximum grid size per axis is 200, so you'll have to settle for 200, 131. Also, GRID is windows mode grid size, FULLGRID is full-screen grid size.
A butcher. Butcher's shop. My mayor is a legendary miner. :3:
Yeah that did it. I am now slaughtering puupies by the dozen.
Yes.
But but but my fortress is so big. Aquifer = No flux stones?
