• Dwarf Fortress - Mom, why are those Elves eating each other?

I have a really strange adventure group, my self a demon, a dwarf spearman, a human drunk, three dwarf children, and a goblin maceman. Maybe I should get a elven bowman and a kobold ambusher in my group and it will be awsome.
It looks like a very rich fort, I look forward to hearing about its continued exploits, fortunes and misfortunes. I wish it the best of luck. Otherwise there is little that needs saying ... yet. I foresee an interesting future for this fort.
[img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/rating/heart.png[/img] I wasn't actually thinking of continuing, but maybe I will, later. Tomorrow perhaps.
I need some help with lava, im making a fort and I need a way to drain magma into my forge area without any dwarves dieing.
It's like making a well. Except more deadly.
I need some help with lava, im making a fort and I need a way to drain magma into my forge area without any dwarves dieing.
First you make a tunnel up towards the magma pipe, on the Z-level you want the forges. DO NOT breach the pipe. Next you dig a channel to the right/left of that tunnel, which will carry the magma. Breach the pipe with that channel only, and breach an area where it will flow diagonally from above.
its a valcano not magma pipe.
its a valcano not magma pipe.
They're basically the same thing.
Do floodgates work with magma, or do they just burn them up?
sceeratch that.
Do floodgates work with magma, or do they just burn them up?
The only magma-safe materials you can use to make floodgates are bauxite and adamantine.
Dear god, what do you need that much room for?
I had this inspiration to draw a megafort in my sketchpad and it required a lot of space.
The only magma-safe materials you can use to make floodgates are bauxite and adamantine.
Along with iron, steel, and nickel silver. You can also use glass furniture, but anything other than furniture that is made out of glass will melt (so a glass floodgate will be able to survive magma, but not a glass toy).
I always end up filling up my download tabs when I go to this section...
I don't have the proper ore to make any decent weapons for my military. How would a force of 11 Legendary Champion wrestlers with near perfect attributes do against a siege/goblins? [editline]03:16AM[/editline] Small goblin ambush. Aforementioned wrestlers raped them with the only wounds being some moderate wounds on like two of them.
Against bowmen, it will be a slaughter.
Yeah, I knew that. Against bowmen, anything would be a slaughter, really. You can literally wear like masterful adamantine armor and a single bolt can still pierce all your organs and kill you.
http://ioj.com/v/bqfj0 Sometimes sacrifices must be made for the greater good. I locked those dwarves out, you can't see all the goblins, but there are so many goblings outside right now. Super-siege or something. My legendary champion wrestlers can't handle them. For some reason those FUCKING DUMB DWARVES keep going outside, even though I have a river inside the fortress that isn't nasty, and I made the area around the gate restricted. WHY MUST YOU COMMIT SUICIDE. WHY. So yeah. I don't have enough coffins for those people.
You can order dwarves not to go outside by setting the order dwarves stay indoors, this is located under [o]rders. and then cycling the option with o. They still keep running to the door of the fort but will turn back at the first sign of light.
No that wouldn't work as my only source of water is inside my fort, but it is OUTSIDE, in the light. :frown: lol, a child lost a sibling, her mom and her dad, and I'm setting her to detail a floor. Ahahahahaha XD
Am I the only one who quits the program (and reloads a save) when something really bad happens? I know the "losing is fun" motto and all, but I just can't stand to have a legendary dwarf killed while I'm still developing my fortress or something like that.

Revive your guys with companion or something, but that is too much :(
That's like copying roguelike saves and then using them again after you die.
I used to do that with IVAN. >.> STOP JUDGING ME :(
That's completely understandable in IVAN.
I'm thinking of making a new fort Cause I'm not liking the way this one worked out but I don't want to give up my Platinum. Any advice?

So.. after countless restarts, here I am, with my first "fortress". But it seems like I have to restart again, why you ask? SO MUCH STONE, at first I thought I had found gold, but apparently it's something else.. and I can't move it or anything, I made a masons workshop but nobody is there. I even remember that I made a guy mason. Any help? Also, do I count as a real DF player now? :buddy: [editline]06:52PM[/editline] Wops, sorry for the big picture. [editline]06:52PM[/editline] Wait a minute, that picture is outdated, doh.. how odd, anyway, the place next to my miner, to the left, that's where I put the mason's workshop.
HOly shit this game is hard. It took me like 5 minutes(after i learnt basic controlls) to figure out that making an underground base in the woods suck because theres no metals and stones there...
This is stupid don't listen to this guy. You need to create a garbage dump zone, create the zone with 'i', then select garbage dump with 'd'. All item's you then select to dump will be chucked into the garbage dump tile.
