Lets get a succession story going on.
If you want to be part of it, PM me so I can make a lil list. I'll probably make a new thread for it.
It helps if you know how to play, doesn't matter if you're good or not, but don't apply if you haven't made a few forts in the past.

Yeah I know, but what I mean is, if you have no idea how to control the Military, create a well, deal with nobles etc, then that's not going to work out well.
If you've made a fort up until a siege in the past you're fine.
I suggest two things:
1) Make a new thread for this
2) Make sure you choose a site that's both playable and interesting. May take a few map generations?
I think we should aim to get a Magma Pool, River (For carpz) and some hazardous wildlife in the map.

Tricky to get magma and a river in the same site.
We could do an ocean fort?
Make an underwater glass fort, all walls and floors must be glass.

This is true. But these carps are amphibious. Land or sea, they will bite you and drag you back into Poseidon's Hell.

Oh, they are but simple, stupid creatures? See, my land carp have evolved into sentient beings. Only the run of the mill dwarf gets killed by a Fly Carp, but a whole fortress can get slaughtered by a siege of Land Carps.

You could dump them into magma or a chasm/bottomless pit, or crush them with a bridge.
Or you could use a single tile dump and have them all placed there. It's cheating but meh.

"I KNEW WE WERE DOOMED! We can't defend this place with talk and before even a year has gone by a seige is uppon us, the damned orcs are comming to destroy us as we also decend on our expedition leader, he SAID there would be VALUBLE ORES here, and all we find is a little bit of dolomite, that we CANT USE, and then TONS OF TALC..... They are trying to build a wall to stop the orcs before they arive but I myself am going to enjoy beating the living hel out of our leader until they come kill me....They say the wall is complete, but out mason is stuck outside..well stupid him I guess.."

"It seems the wall is keeping the horrible orcs outside..though we have lost our mason to them, we heard him scream a battle cry and then promtly it was cut off...well that didn't take long...now we are trapped inside our own nfortress..trying to find iron and keep our food supplies going...just hope we don't run out of drink.."

Suggestion.
Build a load of farms and seal yourself in by any means possible.
Why is it I only seem to get immigrants every five or something years?
You should "launch" that sky battle ship when you're finished. :D
Or better yet, set up a system so you can do just that should the fortress begin to collapse in a massive tantrum spiral.
Also, will supports stay up if they are exposed to A) an alcohol explosion or B) magma?
I wish to know for a "dwarven spaceship" I plan to build. :D

Immigrations are related to your fortress wealth and number of deaths. You generally want a lot of wealth and not a lot of deaths for immigrants to come.

I usually dig a 1 tile channel in my workshop area, designate the tiles touching the hole as garbage dumps, then dig some stairs down to the channel, and mark all the excess stone for dumping, then once its all been dumped in the hole (it can all be stored in a 1x1 tile) I reclaim it so my masons have quick access to whatever stone they need.

No. Immigrants are based on the fortresses wealth, and number of deaths.
Roads don't really do that much, they are mainly there for wagons, as they stop trees from growing, so you can always preserve a 3-tile wide path to the trade depot.
Gonna start an epic Fort up now. Should I log it and post the stories here? I'd write from the view of my mayor, and, when I get him, my lead warrior :D

I decided to back up the save and pause the logs, I wanted to try something for the heck of it, I just made all my dwarves military, and I am going to have them start training, untill I get some champions, then I will remove the wall keeping the orcs out and see what happens XD
