That's old.
VERY old.
I know but still. It is awesome, and I only just read it.

No post for a day :'(
you've read boatmurdered right?
Is there a mod/bot/program that allows the dwarves to basically built and survive on their own? I wanted to leave my computer running all night and would like to wake up to a fortress of some sort

Most of it, yes.
And to above: Why don't you make one? Would be an interesting challenge.
wow, sounds good :buddy:

That would be impossible, unless you mass desginate a HUUUUGE area to be dug out, and mod your dwarfs to live without food/water/sleep

Nope, just needs right conditions. Of course random factors like sieges, moods, etc would be a problem, but in a sheltered place with only the starting seven it's very possible. It could all be done with macros, in fact. Just make it dig stairs, carve rooms, make some furniture, assign crops to grow, and build a well. There, a perfectly self-sufficient fortress.
you might have to babysit it a little bit at the beginning to make sure that the farm is up and running and stuff like that.
Damn it seems like the active level of this thread directly influenced my will to play dwarf fortress.
Haven't played in weeks.

As soon as Toady releases the new build we'll go through two threads in about two days.
It's going to be ridiculous.
Only now do I finally decide to poke my head into the thread. And I've got nothing to say.
Wonderful.
I can, however, say that I do believe it would be interesting to do a Boatmurdered-esque fortress trade-off thing. I dunno', the idea just appeals to me.
Most succession games we have tend to fail by turn 3 due to people not taking their turns. It has been called the facepunch curse!
I want to play again, but I can't decide if I should use the opengl version or the the on with the mayday titleset.
I thought I'd post this here because you guys are hardcore roguelike players and all.

Damn shame, that is.
Damn shame. I'd have a small, interpersonal one, but fuck, nobody I know cares enough to even harbor the idea.
Dwarf Fortress is great. I just fought a Black Bear, and died horribly.

I was trying to get to and Kill Tata Forcedyeller.
I just started playing again with the latest OpenGl version.
The only problem is that dwarf manager crashes everytime I click on Load from DF. That only happens with the openGl version.
I have the v0.7 btw.
Wait, so when is the new release coming? Been gone for a few days so I haven't checked this thread.
Won't be for a few months, afaik. The features I'm most hyped on are the huge caverns, military and health care.
Military yearly schedule is all I want.
Oh, and only one appointed champion.

It's been a year and three weeks since the last release of the game, The new release is estimated at the end of 2009.

I finished up plaster casts yesterday, and today, well... it was a bad day for dwarves. Open wounds can now get placeholder simple infections and once that happens they can ooze pus, heal slowly and even kill, rotting wounds smell and can contribute to infection levels, and a more subtle invisible open-wound-infection-chance-enhancing grime builds up on the body that can only be removed fully by soap.
On the bright side, they'll clean patients off with water and soap, and people cleaning themselves off will use soap now for grime reduction and happy thoughts. The bars of soap are used up reasonably slowly, so you don't have to make one for every cleaning job. Soap can have one of three quality levels for its anti-grime(bacterial) qualities -- since I don't have any additives or special stuff yet (I have SirHoneyBadger's notes on that), all the current soap is just set to work at the middle level, but it is in the raws. Eyelids clean the eyes so you don't have to soap them off, but if an eyelid is torn off, I think they might soap the eyes. Sutures, dressings and casts help prevent infections as well. [/quote]
"Eyelids clean the eyes so you don't have to soap them off, but if an eyelid is torn off, I think they might soap the eyes."
I lol'd.
Although it makes me think, if something tears off the eyelid then I doubt the eye will escape unscatched.

By the end of the year.
I can just see a dwarf missing an eyelid screaming and washing his eye with soap.
"Urist McFisherDwarf has been miserable lately. He has had to endure the pain of washing ones eye with soap recently."
When the update comes out there needs to be a way of ripping the eyelids off. You can have fortress of either blind or battle hardened dwarfes.
"Why are they staring at everything?"
"They can't stop."
