Oh fuck yes.
Okay, custom workshops are done. Here is an example that is not going in the game. Workshops have to be rectangular, but they can have whatever dimensions (up to 31 or something, large enough not to matter much). In the example, the corridor is the only walkable portion, and the dwarf is set to work next to the little red circle. This custom reaction (job) produces a glob of the custom material without requiring any items, where the material itself is a separate raw entry. The workshop was set to require any "building material" for its construction, which is a flag you can put on building/reaction items now (much like many of the standard workshops' construction requirements). You can also do the fire/magma-safe flags, rule out economic stones, allow artifacts and set custom workshops to be magma-fueled. You can allow any number of labor settings to construct the building, or leave it blank to allow anybody to make it. In this case, the building and reaction both required the dwarf to have the soap making labor set.
I bet people will have all sorts of fun with those. Imagine making a workshop whose product is a burning glob of goo.
Oh fuck yes.
Erecting a star jelly dispenser!

How do you make a farm if you have no farmers D:
set preferences to farming and make a farm on soil or muddy rock
It's a bit awkward watching random dwarf fortress movies to pass time at college when you realise people can see you staring at what they see as a heap of ASCII characters. Now I want to play DF again. Oh dear I'll have to make a new fortress when I get home.
My mind won't find DF fun anymore because of the impending update.
>funny yeah I'd say my find can't find DF fun anymore because of the impending update.
>funny yeah I'd say my find can't find DF fun anymore because of the impending update.
I haven't played in yonks. I actually cannot play until the update comes, that's how much it's going to fix the stuff we find so annoying.

Hey, anyone know how to make my dwarfs use more barrels in their food storage area, right now they are throwing their shrooms on the ground when a room full of barrels is less than 10 feet away :v:
Did you reserve too many barrels?
Is this game multiplayer? :v:
nevermind they figured it out by themselves, apparently they were too busy dancing because i was trading to notice all the food on the ground
Does anyone have that picture which is like this: But has Dwarf Fortress instead of Eve?
No, but there should be another line, even above EVE, labelled DF.
Can you tell me guys, how the custom workshops will work? You will be able to build ingame a custom workshop that creates custom material?
My dining room is a mess. :( There's 9 or so immigrants, 5 dogs, 1 dromedary and 1 muskox. Then there's 4 tables and 4 chairs. Nobody uses the tables, and there are some random berries on the chairs. .. Damn this is awesome.
Most succession games we have tend to fail by turn 3 due to people not taking their turns. It has been called the facepunch curse!
We broke the curse in the game "Slaves to Garry" Don't ya'll remember?
No we don't. Sauce please.
We broke the curse in the game "Slaves to Garry" Don't ya'll remember?
Did that ever get finished?
Argh, I just lost the biggest fortress that I've ever made. I'd forgotten that the moat I built was only completed by finishing the digging from inside my fortress, and I blocked it off with a floodgate. It lasted for ten years, until a Bronze Colossus came. My guard-dragon smashed it into the moat, and despite breaking off most of the colossus' body, it crawled over to the floodgate and bashed it open. My fortress was completely flooded, because the main section was built one Z-level below the moat. The water flooded in and filled my entire fortress, eventually, including the great magma forge and adamantium storage. 2 dwarves escaped. 158 dwarves drowned to death. 10 dwarves were trapped in the farming district, which was the only part of the fortress that wasn't flooded. None of them have pickaxes. 1 dwarf was eaten by carp during the flood. You know what? Fuck it, I'm going to build another fortress on the same god damn plot of land without even restarting.
We broke the curse in the game "Slaves to Garry" Don't ya'll remember?
I just about remember that one. It was the one that I had in mind when I said 'MOST' instead of 'ALL' after all. There have been may games since though, that have proved that the curse still exists and is still killing games. I would very much like to see some more games escape the curse.
Would someone kindly recommend a tileset? or perhaps it is best to play the original ascii graphics
Mike Maydays tileset
Mike Maydays tileset
Thank you, i did attempt this game for a relatively short amount of time. The learning curve clearly appears to be rather extensive.
